Living In California
Living in California is a dream for people that are interested in technology. For me, it would be the ideal living location simply for the quality of life
and the job opportunities when I complete my Masters in graduate school. The three areas that I chosen were Santa Clara, Los Angeles, and San

to low amounts of snow in the winter in recent years, California has tried to equal out these shortages by drilling water from underground aquifers.
Yet, underground aquifers recharge much slower than surface water sources. California has already made significant drawbacks to attempt to limit the
amount of water they use, so these aquifers can recharge. But still resources continue going down and the Central Valley Aquifer's water level is

The indigenous people of California had existed on the lands as hunters–gathers before the arrival of the Spanish who were the first Europeans to reach
this part of the Americas. These settlers who began surveying the area since 1530, helped introduce the mission system around 1697 as part of an effort
to set up permanent bases for new arrivals and as a bulwark against other European powers. This establishment caused the natives to transition from
their original lifestyle into agrarian farmers to help bring in revenue for the Spanish crown which led to them being exploited economically in the
process. To establish order in this new land, the Spaniards used harsh punishments for rooting out defiance within the Indian population. However,
eventually the natives would begin to die off in such large quantities that it echoed what else was happening what was happening in the rest of the

For many years California has been becoming more and more dry. Year to year there is less rainfall and snowpack, which in turn leads to less

I think I am slightly confused by the statement, "the authors of your text make an argument that California should stand as a separate region of the

I believe there has been some talk in the media about the idea that California could try to secede from the US. I think if any state could conceivably
stand as its own country, California would definitely be in the running, due to the fact that it seems to have a little bit of everything encompassed in
over 163,000 square miles. Obviously, there are mountains throughout the state, but in terms of vegetation it ranges from coniferous forest type trees
I am not sure where exactly the dividing line should be drawn, simply that it seems silly to try and create a region out of an area that clearly fits in all

"penumbras!" (6), depicts the false illusion of a light, or natural, world from the outside which the speaker hopes for and the dark, or consumer, world
which he finds inside the supermarket. He continues to say, "Whole families / shopping at night!" (6–7), where night is another allusion to the darkness
of consumerism and society in itself.

time and energy one has to most effectively engage the challenge of climate change? This question begins with how one gathers and processes
information. There are so many particulars to understand and so many locations that demand attention. Where should one begin?
Any American citizen could do much worse than looking to the West Coast, and to Central California in particular. Both in terms of the scale of the
impact of climate change there and the implications for Californians. Americans, and even the rest of the world, Central California stands out. The

Some of that is deforestation, but the use of fossil–based fertilizers and the burning of biomass are the other two major drivers (Climate Institute). On
the other side of the spectrum, as the Earth warms, changes that can be expected that relate to agriculture include a shift in agriculture zones away from
the equator, a short–term boost in agricultural productivity through carbon dioxide pumping into the atmosphere, changes in rainfall, and changes in
production patterns (Climate Institute). This will include some increased productivity, but it will also mean greater food insecurity, shifting land
politics, and a scramble to adjust to new production patterns. Any improvements in productivity will be isolated and short–term. Shifts in where foods
can be grown will reward the wealthy and punish – often fatally – the poor farmer who will have the seeds that have been married to the particular soil
