Our state flower is the California Golden Poppy.
Some of our biggest cities are: San Francisco Los Angeles San Diego San Jose Santa Barbara And Sacramento
Lots of places in California have Spanish names, because Spain colonized California during the 1700’s. Our oldest buildings are the Spanish missions.
The full name of Los Angeles (L.A.) is “ El Pueblo de Nuestra Se ñora la Reina de Los Ángeles de Porciúncula.”
The Gold Rush In the 1840’s, lots of people moved to California looking for gold. Blue jeans were invented in California to sell to gold miners. We became a part of the USA in 1850.
Today: 37,000,000 people live in California. 13,000,000 live in Los Angeles.

Californians come from all over the world. We are the most diverse state in the USA! There are over 200 different languages spoken in California. 12,500,000 people in California speak Spanish. Other popular languages are Chinese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
Some of our big industries are Film making Computer technology (Apple Computers come from California.) Agriculture
Some of our sports teams are the Dodgers, the Lakers, and the Galaxy.
Some of my favorite places in Los Angeles are: Griffith Park, a popular place for hiking that has an observatory at the top. Watts Towers, built by one man in the 20th century.
I like the food in California! San Francisco sourdough bread can be used as a bowl! California has very good fruits and vegetables, and salads are popular.
