FIT Reflective Essay
Once, I was faced with the knowledge that the administration at my residential treatment center was considering shutting down their very successful
exercise program, FIT. As word spread about this unfortunate situation, people became very upset and angry. However, very few people were willing
to talk about it or discuss it with the administration. This situation weighed heavy on my heart because the benefits of the program were so important
to those who used it. It served their needs in so many ways in terms of physical fitness, self–confidence, improving character, motivation, goal setting,

As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." After rallying support from my
peers, we had a meeting with the administration to voice our frustrations and let them know just how much FIT meant to us. After the
administration countered back to one person, the rest of my peers were quick to shut up and shut down until I was the only one standing up for a
cause that we all believed in. Driven by my character and passion for the cause, I used my intelligence to counter their arguments and offer viable
solutions. I didn't accept their no's or their excuses as an answer. Despite my support disappearing, I refused to give up because I wanted my voice
to be heard. With intelligence comes responsibility and I happily took that responsibility on to do everything I possibly could to save the program that
meant the world to me and so many others. Some education happens in the classroom, but it's when we're able to use it in real world situations that we
become leaders and problem solvers. With intelligence and character, one is not as good without the other. One may have the intelligence needed to act

one of these. By just eating well you're not gaining any muscle mass, cardiovascular benefits, or doing anything for your body except making sure the

Increasing my physical fitness
I would like to increase my physical fitness. Since being diagnosed with prediabetes this change has become important to me. According to American
Diabetes Association (2015) Prediabetes is when your blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet hit the diabetes marker. You have a higher
risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The consequences of pre–diabetes can be the same as type 2 diabetes. There is still a chance I can lower my A1C
and reverse the diagnosis. Becoming physically fit has many health benefits, not to mention looking better. With the right plan it will be fun. I want to
include physical activity in a way that becomes routine, but not boring. My long–term goal is for the changes to become a permanent part of my
routine. I want to include a healthy eating plan. Not a diet per say, but change my eating habits. I want to change diet and exercise habits in a way that
increase my physical fitness permanently.
There are two maybe three psychological concepts impacting my choice. The first is stress. If I am physically fit, I will be better equipped to deal
with stress. According to the American Diabetes Association (2015) when we are under stress blood sugar rises to supply energy for the fight or
flight response. The benefits are intertwined. I can lower my stress, and in turn that will lower my blood sugar, and I can become physically fit and
that will lower my stress and my blood sugar.

Goodness Of Fit Theory: A Case Study
Another perspective that we can address is the goodness of fit theory which addresses the idea that a child's development is dependent on temperament
and how well the nature of the environment in which they are raised in matches with it (Feldman, 2011). Temperament is an individual's innate
personality that was instilled and never learned (Feldman, 2011). For example, since Leo's temperament was slow–to–warm up, he resulted in very
little activity levels, withdrew from social situations, and was irritated easily in the presence of unfamiliar faces (Carey, 1972). I viewed this as a

waist measurement by the hip measurement. A score of 1.0 or greater for men and women means they are at a higher risk for health problems such as

  • 1. FIT Reflective Essay Once, I was faced with the knowledge that the administration at my residential treatment center was considering shutting down their very successful exercise program, FIT. As word spread about this unfortunate situation, people became very upset and angry. However, very few people were willing to talk about it or discuss it with the administration. Since being diagnosed with prediabetes this change has become important to me.
