 Run down and poor areas mainly represented through
shots of the homeless and not very well groomed
people in close-ups

There is a lot of imagery of the underclass in this music video, showing
people sleeping on the streets, hanging out in dirty areas like
underpasses.
The shot if Emeli Sandé standing on the streets (left) shows a sharp
contrast as she is dressed quite smartly and her surroundings are
miserable and run down. Black could also have connotations of death or
being in the shadows (see mise-en-scene)

 Alvarado’s Race Theory.
 Out of the four racial representations shown explored by
Alvarado, this music video shows black people as
dangerous and pitied.
 Towards the end of the video we see these shadows which
could represent gangs and those that are lurking in the
shadows.
 The lyrics also say "Will you recognise me, when I'm
stealing from the poor" which is another reference to
organised crime and violence

5. Race
 In another shot we can see a black mother feeding her young child
out in the rain. This is representing the black community as to be
pitied as they very clearly are struggling.
 There is also this shot of a young boy sitting at the bottom of some
stairs in a rundown area and he seems to be sad. This could be
showing that he is poor and isn't able to be out and having fun like
most children his age would be.

 It is a stereotype that black people are very religious
and the music video highlights that with many religious
