Persuasive Speech Example
Beginning in 1984, a nonprofit called TED was started with a mission to spread ideas. The most important way this nonprofit spreads ideas is through
short and powerful talks conducted by speakers. Various topics are discussed in these talks such as science, technology, and entertainment. Each speaker
when talking about their topic uses different elements to make their speech effective. Some speeches are more effective than others because of the
elements they utilize. Lizzie Velasquez is aTED talk speaker, who tells the story her life to inspire others. In Lizzie Velasquez's talk, "How to define
yourself?" she captures the audience's attention using many strategies and provoking them to deeply contemplate her message.
During Lizzie Velasquez's talk, her main claim is that people can be successful using the adversity and struggle they've experienced to motivate
them. She displays her claim through using pathos to appeal to the emotion of the listeners. Describing in detail the emotion she felt, Lizzie
Velasquez talks about how defeated and frustrated she felt with her identity during her middle school years. This defeat and frustration can be
presumed to be caused by the bullying she experienced at a young age. "Can I just rub this syndrome off? It would make my life so much easier if I
could just scrub it off"(Velazquez, 2013). Her sharing her personal thoughts evokes the audience to feel the pain and frustration she felt living with her
disease and being treated badly by

Persuasive Speech Outline
Topic: Organ Donation
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to act upon their decision to donate.
Thesis Statement: The need is constantly growing for organ donors and it is very simple to be an organ donor when you die.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Attention material/Credibility Material: How do you feel when you have to wait for something you really, really want? What if it was something
you couldn't live without? Well, my cousin was five years old when he found out he needed a new kidney. He went on the organ waiting list right
away. He was called twice during a six month span that they had a kidney available only to...show more content...
2) The reason is that there are only on the average 6,000 donors nationally per year (Life Source: Statistics).
c. You can choose to donate any needed organs or you can specify which organs or tissues you wish to donate.
2. Organ donation is very important.
a. The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ donation.
"Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose heart has
caused nothing but endless days of pain... Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child
walk...Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the
sound of rain against her window
b. Not only is this a problem nationally but also it is a big problem right here at home in Colorado.
1) Nationally, there are over 120,000 people waiting as of November 1, 2011. As of November 7, 2011, there are 1,142 people from Colorado that are
on the organ waiting list (Life Source: Statistics).
2) The sad part is that there have only been 137 donors in Colorado so far from January 2011 through November 2011 (Life Source: Newsnotes).
[Transition: I'm sure that you can see the need for people like you to donate your organs. But you might be asking, well, how can I make sure my
organs are donated after I die? Let me tell you.]

Persuasive Speech
During my persuasive speech, I used an attention getter with a story to put a face on the problem of the 5–day work week because it is something for
the audience to get attached to. In my attention getter, Jeff Campbell suffers from a stroke from working long hours as an accountant. I believe it was
effective in showing pathos to the problem of the 5–day work week. In my thesis, I clearly stated the topic and related it to my audience by telling
them that it will affect all full–time employees in America. To conclude my introduction, I gave a preview of the what I was going to talk about
during my speech, which included the problems, causes, and solutions. I believe that my speech was well organized because I went to different parts
of the room for each of my main points, and because of this my main points were very easy to follow. I transitioned between my main points very
smoothly with talking while walking throughout the room. Throughout my main points, I gave multiple verbal citations over data that was collected
about problems with the 5–day work week and solutions with the 4–day work week. I did not have a way of verbally proving that my sources were
credible. I am not sure if I had a variety of different supporting materials, but I had a reliable data and a reliable example of the solution working in
the state of Utah. My format for the speech involved pathos, ethos, and logos to use fulfill maximum effectiveness. Some persuasive strategies that I
used included telling a story, giving data to support my hypothesis, giving the audience a reason to care about the topic, relating the reasoning about the
solution to the audience, giving a real–life example of the solution working, and giving the audience a call to action at the end of my speech. If I used
fillers, I was unaware of me using them during my speech. During this speech, I tried to make it a priority to use some vocal variation because I have
lacked that skill in past speeches. So, during my speech, I tried to use some vocal variation especially during the reasoning parts because vocal
variation really helps with reasoning. I used appropriate movement throughout my speech for each main point to keep the audience interested. I believe
that my

Persuasive Speeches
There are three types of persuasive speeches. There are speeches of Value, Fact, and Policy. The first one speeches of Value are when speaker tries
to convince listeners that their personal value judgment is true through the way they use their words or tone. In speeches of value, we argue about
whether something is right or wrong and moral or immoral. Just like you would do with questions of fact, you can create your main points by asking
a strategic question in your thesis of "Why is this good?" or "Why is this moral?" The answers to this question will give you the speech's main points.
We will use "Euthanization of dogs is inhumane" The organization will be Topical because you use the question of why or how to set the specific
purpose....show more content...
For example, in a "Euthanization is inhumane" speech, you might make your first main point to define when an it can be considered inhumane or what
makes it inhumane. In most cases though it would be made clear what you mean by inhumane or moral or good. But in cases where it isn't you can
include what you mean by it, or saying inhumane, in your introduction or in your first main point. You will want to take in consideration what type of
audience you're speaking to. Whether it be a animal rights group, PETA, people who don't even know what euthanization means, approach this subject
with some sensitivity. You as the speaker are not asking the audience to do anything about it but just to believe that it's not a humane thing to do. The
next type of persuasive speech is the speech of fact. With any of these speeches you will need a thesis. Begin with a thesis that states that something
can be proven, that it happened or didn't happen. Usually the material used in the speech should be and will be presented with an organization of
topical order. It's very important to consider the evidence being presented cautiously. Ask if it is even possible that the observations actually happened or

Examples Of Persuasive Speech On Pitbulls
PERSUASIVE SPEECH
GENERAL PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that pit bulls are nice loving dogs.
SPECIFIC PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that pit bulls are not naturally dangerous.
CENTRAL IDEA: Pit bulls are just like any other dog. It depends on how a pit bull or any other breed of dog is nurtured to determine the
characteristics of the dog.
Pit bulls are very loving and obedient
INTRODUCTION
I. Do you have a dog? Does anyone have a pit bull? Well I happy to say that I am a proud owner of 2 blue pits. Their names are Diamond and Jack, and
I never been more in love with dog. They are just like my babies. At the end of the summer Diamond had her first litter. I was in awe's because I was
like I'm a grandmother...show more content...
Considering these factors, the actual number of attacks attributable to American Pit Bull Terriers is considerably lower than represented," according
to the real pit bull. i. Do you think a 4 pound Pomeranian dog would hurt anybody? ii. Stated in the Dog Bite Law, "The most horrifying example of
the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6–week–old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog." a. The American
Temperament Test is a test that measures a dog strong avoidance, unprovoked aggression, and panic without recovery. "American Pit Bull Terriers
passed the test at a rate of 85.3%," according to Pitbulls.org. They have the highest test scores, and they out beat the golden retriever "family dog" by
7.7%. iii. I identify the justice of my rival's claim, but I disagree with my rival's 100 percent about pit bulls having the highest attacks. c. Now you can
see how my rival made a mistake because they didn't evaluate and understood the facts as clearly as they should.
[They key point is to know the facts before you jump to a conclusion about pit bulls. Now I will discuss how loving and caring a pit bull is. ]
II. My rivalry will argue that pit bulls can't be loving and caring towards people. a. There are no facts about a pit bull being dangerous or even vicious
because of their bloodline. You can't portray a negative image about a pit

In my attention getter, Jeff Campbell suffers from a stroke from working long hours as an accountant. I believe it was effective in showing pathos to the problem of the 5–day work week. In my thesis, I clearly stated the topic and related it to my audience by telling them that it will affect all full–time employees in America. To conclude my introduction, I gave a preview of the what I was going to talk about during my speech, which included the problems, causes, and solutions. I believe that my speech was well organized because I went to different parts of the room for each of my main points, and because of this my main points were very easy to follow. I transitioned between my main points very smoothly with talking while walking throughout the room. Throughout my main points, I gave multiple verbal citations over data that was collected about problems with the 5–day work week and solutions with the 4–day work week. I did not have a way of verbally proving that my sources were credible. I am not sure if I had a variety of different supporting materials, but I had a reliable data and a reliable example of the solution working in the state of Utah. My format for the speech involved pathos, ethos, and logos to use fulfill maximum effectiveness. Some persuasive strategies that I used included telling a story, giving data to support my hypothesis, giving the audience a reason to care about the topic, relating the reasoning about the solution to the audience, giving a real–life example of the solution working, and giving the audience a call to action at the end of my speech. If I used fillers, I was unaware of me using them during my speech. During this speech, I tried to make it a priority to use some vocal variation because I have lacked that skill in past speeches. So, during my speech, I tried to use some vocal variation especially during the reasoning parts because vocal variation really helps with reasoning. I used appropriate movement throughout my speech for each main point to keep the audience interested. I believe that my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Just like you would do with questions of fact, you can create your main points by asking a strategic question in your thesis of "Why is this good?" or "Why is this moral?" The answers to this question will give you the speech's main points. We will use "Euthanization of dogs is inhumane" The organization will be Topical because you use the question of why or how to set the specific purpose....show more content... For example, in a "Euthanization is inhumane" speech, you might make your first main point to define when an it can be considered inhumane or what makes it inhumane. In most cases though it would be made clear what you mean by inhumane or moral or good. But in cases where it isn't you can include what you mean by it, or saying inhumane, in your introduction or in your first main point. You will want to take in consideration what type of audience you're speaking to. Whether it be a animal rights group, PETA, people who don't even know what euthanization means, approach this subject with some sensitivity. You as the speaker are not asking the audience to do anything about it but just to believe that it's not a humane thing to do. The next type of persuasive speech is the speech of fact. With any of these speeches you will need a thesis. Begin with a thesis that states that something can be proven, that it happened or didn't happen.
