Advocacy For The Elderly
Senior Care: Change Theory for Social Change Valencia Wright HUMN 6660: Social Change, Leadership, and Advocacy for Human Services
Professionals Professor: Dr. Veronica Carey Walden University September 25, 2016 My issue that I will talk about in my paper is the lack of
long term care for the elderly or seniors. I would like to see the elderly have a place to stay and receive all of the services that he/she need to
continue to survive. It is a shame that some of our elderly are pushed out of nursing homes or residential care because he/she does not have the proper
insurance that will pay for them to stay or just does not have any family that will assist them. Social change in the elderly consist of decreasing of the

Persuasive Essay On Community Service
Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and every week, after spending just one hour watching
over the kids so that their parents can go to service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time helping
others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my
job to make sure those who are less fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of community
service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader.
For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community service organization. As a member of this club, I
am able to help with different jobs around the community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of the
month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for
seventeen high schoolers in our school district. These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack
Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to
school without having to worry about whether or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I
know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a little more knowing that their family will be able to
eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the weekend
before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I
have been a runner. This means I do the odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the trail, that
would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what helps make

The Animal Helper And The Human Hero
This literary analysis will define the role of the animal helper and the theme of protection for the human hero in the fairy tale tradition. In the classical
fairy tale, the "donor" or animal helper is a crucial element to the survival and success of the mina hero, since they are typically animals that provide
assistance in the journey or quest. This form of intervention is an important aspect of the animal helper's role in guiding the hero towards
self–realization. The animal helper also supports the notion of a heroic human protagonist, which helps to promote the individuals' progress through
acts of good deeds and support throughout the tale. These are interlocking parts of the relationship between the animal helper and the human hero,
which provide a cooperative foundation for achieving a certain goal in the fairy tales of the Brother's Grimm and other European fairy tale traditions. In
essence, a literary analysis of the role of the animal helper and the them of protection will be defined in this examination of the fairy tale tradition. The
animal helper provides a longstanding tradition in the classical European fairy tale. In many fairy tales, a talking animal interacts with a human hero to
help them overcome the "destroyer" that is attempting to thwart their dreams of success or achievement in the world. For example, Grimm's fairy
Hansel and Gretel utilizes a white duck that brings them across the water, since there is no bridge: "The duckling came up to them, and

me to tell the children how to work safely. One of the activities that I had to do this was when they were using the scissors. I assisted in an activity

I also made sure that the children were allowed to take risks when at placement. This is by them being able to use the scissors. It is good for the
children to be able to do the risks to make sure that they develop skills that they will be able to use later in life. Another activity that I took part in
was bubble painting. This was where I put paint in a tray and added water. Once this was mixed properly I got the children to use a straw and blow
through it to make bubbles. Once the bubbles were there a piece of paper was placed over them to create a bubble effect picture. There were two
different trays of which one was purple and the other one was orange. This is so that they were able to make their own choice on what colour they
wanted to use. Upon doing this I had to explain to the children how to work safely. This was by ensuring that they followed the instructions given.
Some of these included making sure that they don't put the liquid in their mouth, eyes and making sure that the correct clothing was worn. Whilst the
activity was taking place the children was supervised. This was to make sure that they behaved appropriately. The children were encouraged to take
turns when doing this activity with other members of the group. This was so that there were plenty of room for the children ensuring that none of the
children got hurt. When I was doing the activity one of the children accidently sucked

My Passion For Service And Community
I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members and neighbors selflessly help and be in
community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my
hometown Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the charity walk for Street Children and
Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped
raise money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top three people to raise the most funds. In high
school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I
earned the President's Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya for being a young person
equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally. Understanding where I have come from and how blessed
I have been to have an opportunity to attend college is what drives me to excel academically. It is also what makes me feel I must give back. While at
Xavier, I continued my passion for service by gaining leadership positions in various organizations, including the Students Government Association;
African Students' Association; Black Students' Association, and

The Meaning of Service Essay
The Meaning of Service
Service is a word used constantly. The word service has an impression on many people. For example; people who work as lifeguards view their work as
a service to the community. Naturally, based on working as a lifeguard their definition of service would be an action beneficial to the well–being of
others. Not surprisingly, a similar definition was found in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). Service is described in the Oxford English Dictionary
as "the action of serving, helping, or benefiting; conduct tending to the welfare or advantage of another; condition or employment of a public servant;
friendly or professional assistance." Furthermore, in Webster's Ninth NewCollegiate Dictionary, service is...show more content...
A service berry is "any one of various American trees or shrubs of the genus Amelanchier" (Dictionary of Americanisms). The second definition was
one many may not have recognized right away. Service is "public worship according to form and order" (OED). After people read this they think, of
course! People are always saying "are you going to attend service on Sunday?" Many immediately think the word service means providing for another
and completely forget by attending mass they are performing a service to a higher being.
Becoming so firmly planted in one definition of service people tend to ignore its other uses. A strong attachment to one definition or another can be
attributed to working as a lifeguard or work with other programs like YouVote. With YouVote, participants are helping and benefitting others by
providing them with information important to upcoming elections. By providing people with information it helps them along their way to making an
educated decision when they vote. Working with YouVote has helped to extend the definition of service to all persons who help or serve others like;
waitresses, teachers, lifeguards, doctors, lawyers, coaches, and the government. The government continuously provides "service" to our country, or at
least they try. The many readings in WRA135 class have shown the government needs to provide more service to those in need like all those living
below the poverty line and/or on

Essay on Service Dogs: Much More than a Helpers
At first sight, service dogs look like any other dog. They are furry. They walk on all fours. They have a tail. But they have many differences from
other dogs. Service dogs are well behaved and are obedient. They wear clothing that no other dog wears such as a vest to make people aware that
they are service dogs. Service dogs perform tasks that no other dogs can do, like paying for meals and carrying objects for their owners, sometimes
in a vest compartment like a backpack. Service dogs are unlike other dogs because they are trained to do tasks that human beings normally do, but
can't because of some disability. Service dogs help their owners navigate the world they live in by assisting their owners in overcoming day to day

That organization relies on donations from other people or the government.
After a dog is selected as being a potential service dog, it leaves its mother and goes to a family for training. During this time, the puppy is exposed to
as many environments and situations as possible, such as cars, children and restaurants, since it will be going everywhere with its owner. Service dogs
attend obedience school and learn simple commands, such as stay, sit, and walk.
Once a puppy dog being trained as a service dog reaches eighteen to twenty months, they leave their training family and are brought to the training
organization for further training along with other service dogs. The dogs are trained to have good manners. During their training time they learn fifty
plus commands. They are trained to perform tasks that are difficult and uncomfortable such as crawling along the floor so that they can get under
furniture to retrieve items that their owners may have dropped. The dogs must be strong in case they need to push or pull a wheel chair through a
narrow area. At the end of training, they are given difficult tests to test their shyness and submissiveness, if they startle, and if they are forgiving and
loving. If they pass all their tests, they go through a boot camp where their potential owners are trained how to take care of them. During

average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it.
Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing
benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an
alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies
(Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since
teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many
countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent
answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is
part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the
government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves
(Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more
and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the
Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

The Importance Of Selfless Service
When one sees the word selfless–service, he or she literally sees the words self and less, followed by service. Self refers to an individual (in this case,
it refers to one's own interests) and less indicates a lack of, or without. Service can be a synonym of the word volunteering or duty. Therefore, the
term selfless service must literally mean the lack of the pursuit of one's own interests for the betterment of others. There is no measurement of
selfless service. No matter what the scenario or who is involved, everyone who is involved benefits from one's selfless acts. The one who shows
selflessness may benefit by receiving a "thank you," or even just a good feeling of helping others. Of course, the ones who receive the selfless acts
benefit from obvious reasons. Selfless–service can be shown by anyone and everyone, including a soldier putting his/her life on the line to save a
fallen comrade, a husband and father protecting and spending time with his wife and children, someone donating his/her time by volunteering as a
tutor or with the American Red Cross or some other goodwill charity, and the teamwork of two or more athletes. Those four examples provide different
scales in which selfless–service can be displayed. Selfless–service can be displayed in regards to one's nation/military, one's family, one's community,
and any team sport.
The U.S. Army's definition of selfless–service is "to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your subordinates before your own"

What Does Service Mean To You Essay
I've grown up with the influence of strong women in my life, a lot of which came from my sisters. One of my sisters was a member of National
Honors Society and she always taught me in the ways to conduct myself like a member would. So growing up I would always try to be the best
person I could be whether that means by studying my hardest, leading the way for my peers and other generations, doing good deeds for others, or
building my character. I would try to tie in the values to make me as unique and individual as I could. Service is something that every person does
in their life. I try to do as much service as I can, which means a lot of my service is in the summer or while school in on breaks. While service can be
done through organizations and for well–known causes, service is also seen in everyday life. Service can be through small acts of kindness, such as,
holding open the door, helping someone who's carrying a particularly heavy load, or simply just being there when they need a shoulder to lean on.
Service is about making someone day brighten with little rays of kindness and to show that someone out there definitely cares for them. Acts of

Why You Are Able to Trust an Outsourced Call Center With Your Support Services An outsourced call center will help you with advice for any
issues, and will add to the range of exchanges with clients. Large companies, however efficient they may be, have the need for service providers

negatively impact all the brand's customers. Also, view this link for more data: https://www.cgsinc.com/en/bpo–guide–how–to–outsource To do this,
you must involve both proven commercial skills and experienced commercial leadership. But who believes that by hurriedly recruiting, waiting for
immediate results, training too fast and too little, exerting constant pressure on their teams and paying too low a salary, one has the slightest chance of
getting a quality image and satisfied customers? The first issue, as we have seen, is the limitation of cost. To solve this difficulty, the solution is to set
up an outsourced call center sales team and not a single self–sufficient individual. Professionalize your business. Whether you create your outsourced
call center sales force or reinforce it punctually on a new market sector, you can not afford to have an amateur approach. Good Commercial Outsourcing

Companies are misguided nowadays by the notion that customers depend on them, when the truth of the matter is that companies are dependent on
those customers. Customer satisfaction and customer loyalty is now essential for a business or company to survive. So what is the difference between
customer satisfaction and customer loyalty and how to companies and or business achieve this? Also when you have difficult customers how do you
achieve customer satisfaction?
It's essential that companies or businesses today listen to their customers. No company or business today can afford to disregard the importance of

Customer loyalty is much harder to obtain that customer service satisfaction. The most important first step is to satisfy the customer by meeting their
expectations. Customers only give a company one chance and if they aren't satisfied they will not do business with that company again, as well as tell
others of their experience. The next step would be to exceed the customer's expectations. If a business goes above and beyond to assist the customer
they begin to build loyalty. The next step is to truly surprise the customer. In order to dominate the marketplace the company must find a way to make
them selves stand out with their product or service, accompanied with phenomenal customer service. Once this has been done customer satisfaction
and loyalty will be gained. "Acquiring a new customer can cost four or five times more than keeping a current customer" (Bestmark, 2013). So it's
essential to keep the current customer's happy and coming back for more.
Some of the ways that businesses can build loyalty would be by offering loyalty programs, Interacting with customers, surveys, creating institutional
ties, and personalized marketing. Another way to build loyalty is to treat your employees so well that they treat your customers well. If you have
happy employees they will treat your customers happy. "The link between satisfaction and loyalty however is not proportional" (Kotler, Keller, 2009,
p71), so businesses must

Asking For Help Essay
Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly
difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I need

We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need someone to explain something discussed in

area of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I realized that I seldom request and often reject
offers of assistance. A successful student would employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve their
goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a
key factor in being successful in college. In order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish that,
he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student does not understand something and refuses to ask for
help when it is readily available, they are only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is more
knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead to total understanding. This will enable them to perform

The Importance Of Social Support
The Importance of Social Support Reutter & Kushner (2015), states that social support holds a great importance for all individuals, it is a way to
maintain supportive connections and relationships, it has the potential to identify multiple risk factors and it provides a way to maintain control over
ones lives (p. 7). I whole–heartedly support the statement above, for social support does play a positive role in a person's life due to the outlets they
provide. As for families social support can also serve as a way to cope with stress from certain challenges (Steward, M., Makawarimba, E., Beiser, M.,
Neufeld A., Simich L., & Spitzer, D., 2010, p. 92). Support services can even provide their cliental with parenting strategies (through...show more

Each article illustrates that if a person or family experiences a stressful event in their lives, a social support system can provide them with a means
of expression, advice and even simple physical or moral support. Social support to me is a way a family can find advice and a way to simply release
stress. By belonging into a group that allows you to find strength within it, you are more able to build resilience and lower your stress level during hard
times, thus decrease the risk for negative health impacts.
The Impacts and Trend on Culturally Diverse Families On the flip side, the lack of social support can increase the risk of a person feeling rejected
and even detached from others (Faith Ozbay, S., 2015). Without an outlet for information of effective coping strategies or meaningful relationships
that foster positive hormones a person's stress levels will increase as well (Faith Ozbay, S., 2015). Take into account for example immigrant
families: the challenges associated with new settlement, new housing and employment can create a great deal of stress. Without help from others
such as family and friends, some families are unable to cope with adversity (Chadwick & Collins, 2015, p. 221). This can lead to an increase risk of
developing poor mental health outcomes such as depression and substance use, due to the amount of different stressors present in their lives
(Chadwick & Collins, 2015, p. 221). Overall a lack of support networks can

Reflection About Service
Service is a work of will. Throughout our lives, we complete service that may be unknown to us. Service does not always mean doing things for a
time frame for a signed paper to turn into school, but service could mean even the smaller things from helping an injured student to their classroom
or offering help to a teacher carrying too many things. Throughout my almost three years at DePaul College Prep, I have completed my service
requirements, but I also found the things I did enjoyable; I did not feel forced to do most of the service that I did. I would really like to believe the
service that I completed helped others, along with the community, but the more important aspect of the service completed was that it opened my eyes
to a greater good and allowed me to give more of myself to others than to focus solely on myself.
My freshman year was kind of a blur. Most of the things that happened that year seemed to have faded away mostly because it was the easiest year,
so far, that I had experienced. If I do recall correctly, I did my service by helping out the elementary girls volleyball leagues held at the gymnasium at
my high school. This was known as the Spring Little League, and there, I helped to referee a couple games, and I also helped with admissions and
scores. I was able to offer my time and efforts to these young girls playing, along with my own Coach, Coach Tony. I learned that everything was better
with numbers. I was helping out Coach Tony with my whole team, and

Supporting the Elderly Essay
As adults the transition into old age can be difficult for some people. Frustration, lack of responsibility and dependence can make the process of
aging undesirable. Old age should be viewed as another phase of life, but not the end of life. In order to help elderly cope with aging it is important
for them to have social interaction. Support from family, friends and the local community can make a difference in the psychological well being of
older adults. There is great concern for the increasing amount of elderly people without children. Childlessness can not be directly linked to loneliness

Although the main effects of childlessness are minimal in this study for older persons, it can not be ruled out that childlessness has no direct effect on
the psychological wellbeing of older people. The aspect of well being can differ, but is still important for rural elderly. An article in Sex Roles,
"Compared to their urban counterparts, rural elders experience significant threats to their economic, physical, and psychological well–being" (Patrick,
Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) Factors such as age, gender, education, income, and marital status, can be predictors of well–being. More important though
is social support. Socialization differences in men and women can produce varying results of positive or negative well being. Women are more
emotionally supportive and have a larger network of support. Men do not rely on friends as much and are more withdrawn. In the article, Gender,
emotional support, and well–being among the rural elderly, a study was done to determine the association among emotional support and well–being as
well as gender differences. Evidence from the study demonstrates "Women and those perceiving less emotional support from family were more likely
to report high levels of negative affect." (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) The

Child Protective Services (CPS)
Child protective services (CPS) is a government agency located in many states across the United States that helps children stay away from harm and

one. Child abuse is defined as any type of neglect upon a child including mentally, physically, and sexually.
Social workers react to reports and take those in danger of neglect to a safer environment. "Being a social worker isn't the easiest job to do, to succeed

The salary one receives as a social worker isn't compared to the importance of the job itself and the difference you make in the life of young child, and

Advocacy For The Elderly

  • 1. Advocacy For The Elderly Senior Care: Change Theory for Social Change Valencia Wright HUMN 6660: Social Change, Leadership, and Advocacy for Human Services Professionals Professor: Dr. Veronica Carey Walden University September 25, 2016 My issue that I will talk about in my paper is the lack of long term care for the elderly or seniors. I would like to see the elderly have a place to stay and receive all of the services that he/she need to continue to survive. It is a shame that some of our elderly are pushed out of nursing homes or residential care because he/she does not have the proper insurance that will pay for them to stay or just does not have any family that will assist them. • 2. Persuasive Essay On Community Service Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and every week, after spending just one hour watching over the kids so that their parents can go to service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time helping others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my job to make sure those who are less fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of community service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader. For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community service organization. As a member of this club, I am able to help with different jobs around the community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of the month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for seventeen high schoolers in our school district. These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to school without having to worry about whether or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a little more knowing that their family will be able to eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the weekend before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I have been a runner. This means I do the odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the trail, that would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what helps make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Animal Helper And The Human Hero This literary analysis will define the role of the animal helper and the theme of protection for the human hero in the fairy tale tradition. In the classical fairy tale, the "donor" or animal helper is a crucial element to the survival and success of the mina hero, since they are typically animals that provide assistance in the journey or quest. This form of intervention is an important aspect of the animal helper's role in guiding the hero towards self–realization. The animal helper also supports the notion of a heroic human protagonist, which helps to promote the individuals' progress through acts of good deeds and support throughout the tale. These are interlocking parts of the relationship between the animal helper and the human hero, which provide a cooperative foundation for achieving a certain goal in the fairy tales of the Brother's Grimm and other European fairy tale traditions. In essence, a literary analysis of the role of the animal helper and the them of protection will be defined in this examination of the fairy tale tradition. The animal helper provides a longstanding tradition in the classical European fairy tale. In many fairy tales, a talking animal interacts with a human hero to help them overcome the "destroyer" that is attempting to thwart their dreams of success or achievement in the world. For example, Grimm's fairy Hansel and Gretel utilizes a white duck that brings them across the water, since there is no bridge: "The duckling came up to them, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Whilst I was at placement I have taken part in a lot of activities. Some of these have needed me to tell the children how to work safely. One of the activities that I had to do this was when they were using the scissors. I assisted in an activity where they had to make poppies. This was done by making a flower shape on a piece of paper and then getting the children to cut around it. I carefully supervised the children to make sure that they do not hurt themselves while they were doing the activity. I also asked the children that were...show more content... I also made sure that the children were allowed to take risks when at placement. This is by them being able to use the scissors. It is good for the children to be able to do the risks to make sure that they develop skills that they will be able to use later in life. Another activity that I took part in was bubble painting. This was where I put paint in a tray and added water. Once this was mixed properly I got the children to use a straw and blow through it to make bubbles. Once the bubbles were there a piece of paper was placed over them to create a bubble effect picture. There were two different trays of which one was purple and the other one was orange. This is so that they were able to make their own choice on what colour they wanted to use. Upon doing this I had to explain to the children how to work safely. This was by ensuring that they followed the instructions given. Some of these included making sure that they don't put the liquid in their mouth, eyes and making sure that the correct clothing was worn. Whilst the activity was taking place the children was supervised. This was to make sure that they behaved appropriately. The children were encouraged to take turns when doing this activity with other members of the group. This was so that there were plenty of room for the children ensuring that none of the children got hurt. • 5. My Passion For Service And Community I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members and neighbors selflessly help and be in community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my hometown Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the charity walk for Street Children and Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped raise money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top three people to raise the most funds. In high school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I earned the President's Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya for being a young person equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally. Understanding where I have come from and how blessed I have been to have an opportunity to attend college is what drives me to excel academically. It is also what makes me feel I must give back. While at Xavier, I continued my passion for service by gaining leadership positions in various organizations, including the Students Government Association; African Students' Association; Black Students' Association, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Meaning of Service Essay The Meaning of Service Service is a word used constantly. The word service has an impression on many people. For example; people who work as lifeguards view their work as a service to the community. Naturally, based on working as a lifeguard their definition of service would be an action beneficial to the well–being of others. Not surprisingly, a similar definition was found in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). Service is described in the Oxford English Dictionary as "the action of serving, helping, or benefiting; conduct tending to the welfare or advantage of another; condition or employment of a public servant; friendly or professional assistance." Furthermore, in Webster's Ninth NewCollegiate Dictionary, service is...show more content... A service berry is "any one of various American trees or shrubs of the genus Amelanchier" (Dictionary of Americanisms). The second definition was one many may not have recognized right away. Service is "public worship according to form and order" (OED). After people read this they think, of course! People are always saying "are you going to attend service on Sunday?" Many immediately think the word service means providing for another and completely forget by attending mass they are performing a service to a higher being. Becoming so firmly planted in one definition of service people tend to ignore its other uses. A strong attachment to one definition or another can be attributed to working as a lifeguard or work with other programs like YouVote. With YouVote, participants are helping and benefitting others by providing them with information important to upcoming elections. By providing people with information it helps them along their way to making an educated decision when they vote. Working with YouVote has helped to extend the definition of service to all persons who help or serve others like; waitresses, teachers, lifeguards, doctors, lawyers, coaches, and the government. The government continuously provides "service" to our country, or at least they try. The many readings in WRA135 class have shown the government needs to provide more service to those in need like all those living below the poverty line and/or on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay on Service Dogs: Much More than a Helpers At first sight, service dogs look like any other dog. They are furry. They walk on all fours. They have a tail. But they have many differences from other dogs. Service dogs are well behaved and are obedient. They wear clothing that no other dog wears such as a vest to make people aware that they are service dogs. Service dogs perform tasks that no other dogs can do, like paying for meals and carrying objects for their owners, sometimes in a vest compartment like a backpack. Service dogs are unlike other dogs because they are trained to do tasks that human beings normally do, but can't because of some disability. Service dogs help their owners navigate the world they live in by assisting their owners in overcoming day to day ...show more content... That organization relies on donations from other people or the government. After a dog is selected as being a potential service dog, it leaves its mother and goes to a family for training. During this time, the puppy is exposed to as many environments and situations as possible, such as cars, children and restaurants, since it will be going everywhere with its owner. Service dogs attend obedience school and learn simple commands, such as stay, sit, and walk. Once a puppy dog being trained as a service dog reaches eighteen to twenty months, they leave their training family and are brought to the training organization for further training along with other service dogs. The dogs are trained to have good manners. During their training time they learn fifty plus commands. They are trained to perform tasks that are difficult and uncomfortable such as crawling along the floor so that they can get under furniture to retrieve items that their owners may have dropped. The dogs must be strong in case they need to push or pull a wheel chair through a narrow area. At the end of training, they are given difficult tests to test their shyness and submissiveness, if they startle, and if they are forgiving and loving. If they pass all their tests, they go through a boot camp where their potential owners are trained how to take care of them. During Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. "Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers...show more content... Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Importance Of Selfless Service When one sees the word selfless–service, he or she literally sees the words self and less, followed by service. Self refers to an individual (in this case, it refers to one's own interests) and less indicates a lack of, or without. Service can be a synonym of the word volunteering or duty. Therefore, the term selfless service must literally mean the lack of the pursuit of one's own interests for the betterment of others. There is no measurement of selfless service. No matter what the scenario or who is involved, everyone who is involved benefits from one's selfless acts. The one who shows selflessness may benefit by receiving a "thank you," or even just a good feeling of helping others. Of course, the ones who receive the selfless acts benefit from obvious reasons. Selfless–service can be shown by anyone and everyone, including a soldier putting his/her life on the line to save a fallen comrade, a husband and father protecting and spending time with his wife and children, someone donating his/her time by volunteering as a tutor or with the American Red Cross or some other goodwill charity, and the teamwork of two or more athletes. Those four examples provide different scales in which selfless–service can be displayed. Selfless–service can be displayed in regards to one's nation/military, one's family, one's community, and any team sport. The U.S. Army's definition of selfless–service is "to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your subordinates before your own" Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. What Does Service Mean To You Essay I've grown up with the influence of strong women in my life, a lot of which came from my sisters. One of my sisters was a member of National Honors Society and she always taught me in the ways to conduct myself like a member would. So growing up I would always try to be the best person I could be whether that means by studying my hardest, leading the way for my peers and other generations, doing good deeds for others, or building my character. I would try to tie in the values to make me as unique and individual as I could. Service is something that every person does in their life. I try to do as much service as I can, which means a lot of my service is in the summer or while school in on breaks. While service can be done through organizations and for well–known causes, service is also seen in everyday life. Service can be through small acts of kindness, such as, holding open the door, helping someone who's carrying a particularly heavy load, or simply just being there when they need a shoulder to lean on. Service is about making someone day brighten with little rays of kindness and to show that someone out there definitely cares for them. • 12. Call Center Essay Why You Are Able to Trust an Outsourced Call Center With Your Support Services An outsourced call center will help you with advice for any issues, and will add to the range of exchanges with clients. Large companies, however efficient they may be, have the need for service providers combining teams trained to deal professionally with any situation, the mastery of abundant technological innovations and a seamless organization combining the two as closely as possible to the needs of each client. But who believes that by hurriedly recruiting, waiting for immediate results, training too fast and too little, exerting constant pressure on their teams and paying too low a salary, one has the slightest chance of getting a quality image and satisfied customers? The first issue, as we have seen, is the limitation of cost. To solve this difficulty, the solution is to set up an outsourced call center sales team and not a single self–sufficient individual. Professionalize your business. Whether you create your outsourced call center sales force or reinforce it punctually on a new market sector, you can not afford to have an amateur approach. • 13. CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE Various literature, thesis, and theories were carefully read and studied by the researchers to synthesized and relate different scholarly articles, journals, and other reference material to the present study entitled Customers Satisfaction to the Service of Dasmarinas Water District. These related literature and studies gave concrete foundation to the research. Related Literature Customer and Service According to Okoli (2007), customer is anyone who approached the provider to satisfy his/her needs while service is the trade between provider and customer that has the responsibility to create or destroy the organization. In line with service is quality, which depend on the result of the customers' comparison between expectations about service and perceived performance (Islam, 2011). Service is different from product, and it is classified into three service dimensions, such as: intangibility, simultaneous delivery and customer participation (Ojo, 2011). For Proompow (2013), he defined service quality based on its important factors, where he stated that: "The important factors of the service quality form the word SERVICE. That is 'S' stands for satisfaction, 'E' stands for expectation, 'R' is readiness, 'V' is value, 'I' is Interest, 'C' is courtesy and 'E' is efficiency." • 14. Customer Service Essay examples Companies are misguided nowadays by the notion that customers depend on them, when the truth of the matter is that companies are dependent on those customers. Customer satisfaction and customer loyalty is now essential for a business or company to survive. So what is the difference between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty and how to companies and or business achieve this? Also when you have difficult customers how do you achieve customer satisfaction? It's essential that companies or businesses today listen to their customers. No company or business today can afford to disregard the importance of customer satisfaction and loyalty. Aren't they the same thing? No, they are absolutely not and they are enormously...show more content... Customer loyalty is much harder to obtain that customer service satisfaction. The most important first step is to satisfy the customer by meeting their expectations. Customers only give a company one chance and if they aren't satisfied they will not do business with that company again, as well as tell others of their experience. The next step would be to exceed the customer's expectations. If a business goes above and beyond to assist the customer they begin to build loyalty. The next step is to truly surprise the customer. In order to dominate the marketplace the company must find a way to make them selves stand out with their product or service, accompanied with phenomenal customer service. Once this has been done customer satisfaction and loyalty will be gained. "Acquiring a new customer can cost four or five times more than keeping a current customer" (Bestmark, 2013). So it's essential to keep the current customer's happy and coming back for more. Some of the ways that businesses can build loyalty would be by offering loyalty programs, Interacting with customers, surveys, creating institutional ties, and personalized marketing. Another way to build loyalty is to treat your employees so well that they treat your customers well. If you have happy employees they will treat your customers happy. "The link between satisfaction and loyalty however is not proportional" (Kotler, Keller, 2009, p71), so businesses must Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Asking For Help Essay Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I need help." In writing this paper I hope to recognize the roots of my problem and adopt a plan to aid me in overcoming this negative behavior. After I took the self–assessment and received a low score in the area of interdependence, I began considering options for overcoming my hesitation so that I may become a successful student. The first strategy is to learn that I cannot do everything by myself. Typically, I never ask for...show more content... We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the favor returned for English. Working together and helping others is important in almost every area of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead to total understanding. This will enable them to perform better on my assignments and to keep moving forward towards that college degree. College can be an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Importance Of Social Support The Importance of Social Support Reutter & Kushner (2015), states that social support holds a great importance for all individuals, it is a way to maintain supportive connections and relationships, it has the potential to identify multiple risk factors and it provides a way to maintain control over ones lives (p. 7). I whole–heartedly support the statement above, for social support does play a positive role in a person's life due to the outlets they provide. As for families social support can also serve as a way to cope with stress from certain challenges (Steward, M., Makawarimba, E., Beiser, M., Neufeld A., Simich L., & Spitzer, D., 2010, p. 92). Support services can even provide their cliental with parenting strategies (through...show more content... Each article illustrates that if a person or family experiences a stressful event in their lives, a social support system can provide them with a means of expression, advice and even simple physical or moral support. Social support to me is a way a family can find advice and a way to simply release stress. By belonging into a group that allows you to find strength within it, you are more able to build resilience and lower your stress level during hard times, thus decrease the risk for negative health impacts. The Impacts and Trend on Culturally Diverse Families On the flip side, the lack of social support can increase the risk of a person feeling rejected and even detached from others (Faith Ozbay, S., 2015). Without an outlet for information of effective coping strategies or meaningful relationships that foster positive hormones a person's stress levels will increase as well (Faith Ozbay, S., 2015). Take into account for example immigrant families: the challenges associated with new settlement, new housing and employment can create a great deal of stress. Without help from others such as family and friends, some families are unable to cope with adversity (Chadwick & Collins, 2015, p. 221). This can lead to an increase risk of developing poor mental health outcomes such as depression and substance use, due to the amount of different stressors present in their lives (Chadwick & Collins, 2015, p. 221). • 17. Reflection About Service Service is a work of will. Throughout our lives, we complete service that may be unknown to us. Service does not always mean doing things for a time frame for a signed paper to turn into school, but service could mean even the smaller things from helping an injured student to their classroom or offering help to a teacher carrying too many things. Throughout my almost three years at DePaul College Prep, I have completed my service requirements, but I also found the things I did enjoyable; I did not feel forced to do most of the service that I did. I would really like to believe the service that I completed helped others, along with the community, but the more important aspect of the service completed was that it opened my eyes to a greater good and allowed me to give more of myself to others than to focus solely on myself. My freshman year was kind of a blur. Most of the things that happened that year seemed to have faded away mostly because it was the easiest year, so far, that I had experienced. If I do recall correctly, I did my service by helping out the elementary girls volleyball leagues held at the gymnasium at my high school. This was known as the Spring Little League, and there, I helped to referee a couple games, and I also helped with admissions and scores. I was able to offer my time and efforts to these young girls playing, along with my own Coach, Coach Tony. I learned that everything was better with numbers. I was helping out Coach Tony with my whole team, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Supporting the Elderly Essay As adults the transition into old age can be difficult for some people. Frustration, lack of responsibility and dependence can make the process of aging undesirable. Old age should be viewed as another phase of life, but not the end of life. In order to help elderly cope with aging it is important for them to have social interaction. Support from family, friends and the local community can make a difference in the psychological well being of older adults. There is great concern for the increasing amount of elderly people without children. Childlessness can not be directly linked to loneliness and depression in the elderly, but there is some evidence that it can have an effect on their psychological well being. According to an article...show more content... Although the main effects of childlessness are minimal in this study for older persons, it can not be ruled out that childlessness has no direct effect on the psychological wellbeing of older people. The aspect of well being can differ, but is still important for rural elderly. An article in Sex Roles, "Compared to their urban counterparts, rural elders experience significant threats to their economic, physical, and psychological well–being" (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) Factors such as age, gender, education, income, and marital status, can be predictors of well–being. More important though is social support. Socialization differences in men and women can produce varying results of positive or negative well being. Women are more emotionally supportive and have a larger network of support. Men do not rely on friends as much and are more withdrawn. In the article, Gender, emotional support, and well–being among the rural elderly, a study was done to determine the association among emotional support and well–being as well as gender differences. Evidence from the study demonstrates "Women and those perceiving less emotional support from family were more likely to report high levels of negative affect." (Patrick, Cortells, and Barnes, 1993.) • 19. Child Protective Services (CPS) Child protective services (CPS) is a government agency located in many states across the United States that helps children stay away from harm and abuse. Child protective services and its agencies plays a big role in society. Children of all ages are assaulted and most of the times by a dearest loved one. Child abuse is defined as any type of neglect upon a child including mentally, physically, and sexually. Social workers react to reports and take those in danger of neglect to a safer environment. What more good to do in society than assisting children for a better, deserved lifestyle. Social working is nothing but a helping field that opens doors to kids that started off with nothing. "At times social workers will fail to overcome countless cases where the clients were given there undivided attention, and the best help one can receive but knowing you did the best you could in a case is what helps you move forward, and the cases you do succeed are the ones that over look that bad ones" (Martinez). Personally, I view this level of field work rewarding than anything else.
