Academic and practicum are done at the same time, this support learning

Again reinforce that our program is unique as you take what you learn in class you can directly apply to practicum, and
What you learn or wonder about in practicum you can discuss in class.
We place you in the practicum – most are in Vancouver, some in Richmond, Burnaby, and a bit further out
Be prepared to go to places such as down town, UBC, etc.
Focus on the gradual growth that we provide for students, start with just 2 half days, ending with a full block ready to be educators
This is an intensive program. You will have homework every night, and weekends.
Strongly state that it is important to look at English requirement first as this can be the most time consuming.
This information is NEW and is currently not on the web site – it is in the process of being changed.
They need to speak to REGISTRATION, if they have questions about English. However if it is not listed on the ECE web site, it
Is not accepted.
Book LET (Langara English Test) right away as they fill up fast.
There are LET practice books in the Langara Book store
If they pass 1127 this is accepted
This can be complex to understand, so if people have questions ask them to contact registration or international dept.
70 % is new lower college requirement – starting for Sept 2020
These English courses gets the student into ECE, but they can not get into Eng 1123, so to complete the Diploma program, they
Will need to take the LET at some point and get a 3 to finish the diploma program.
If anyone has questions about their English, have them speak to registration, or for international department.
It must be with children under 5, it can be in your home country
They must have a reference letter from the volunteer site confirming 20 hours
We do not accept any criminal record checks other than the one done through Langara
They will receive information about the criminal record check from Langara once you have accepted your place at Langara
It is essential to get this done right away once you are accepted, as you can not start practicum without it.
If you are confused about criminal record check process, please ASK. – don’t wait
Some people will be able to complete this check online,
Many will be told when they click the link, that they can not,
They then need to print it off, fill it out and bring it to registration with photo ID
BUT… then next slide is about bursary
Discuss job opportunities, such as daycare, preschool, strong start
Highlight that there are many job opportunities, - they have a pick of their jobs across the province
Discuss how our IT programs work, that they only need to do a block practicum once they are finished all the courses.
Discuss SN courses and practicum – it is not mandatory.
Often about ¼ of our students go onto further studies.
