1. A DAY WITHOUT WATER
by Lenka Vobornรญkovรก
his morning Vilรฉm got up. It was a weekend but his uncle needed him to
help on the farm. Vilรฉm went to the kitchen and he wanted to make
himself some tea, butโฆwhat?! Water didnโt run!!! Oh no, he would have
to wait and have tea with his uncle. Then he went to the bathroom, put
toothpaste on the toothbrush and brushed his teeth. He had a mouth full of
toothpaste, but โฆNO!!! Water didnโt run!!!
Vilรฉm was twelve and he was from a village in the Czech Republic. It was
autumn and all week it was rainy but today was hot and dry. All the flowers got
dry and when Vilรฉm came to the lakeโฆ there was no water, only dead fish, mud
and sand. What happened??? He was dirty, thirsty, he had a mouth full of
toothpaste and he was angry, and sad.
He came onto uncleโs farm and he saw his aunt crying. โVilรฉm, something
terrible has happened. Here is no water! We havenโt got any water for the
animals nor for the flowers. Our neighbours havenโt got any water, neitherโฆโ,
she said. โWhat shall we do?โ
The afternoon was very hot. Usually they would go swimming, but that day they
couldnโt. Everybody was thirsty but had nothing to drink. They were tired,
thirsty, dirty and sad, andโฆ
โฆ andVilรฉm woke up. Fortunately, that was only a dream. Now he could drink
and swim in the lake and there were nice flowers everywhereโฆ and happy
people, too.
In fact, in such a day, all the fish would die as well as many other animals. So,
letโs save water so that such days will never happenโฆ

2. A Big Snowstorm
By Matฤj Bรญna
ne morning many years ago, I woke up and looked out of the window. I
saw snow. Nothing else just snow. I walked downstairs and I wanted to
open the front door. But there was snow outside. Then I walked upstairs
to ask my mother what happened. She said: โAt night, there was a big
snowstorm. We canยดt go out.โ I asked: โDo we have some food, or will we die?โ
She said without hesitation: โWeยดve got some food in the cellar. If you want
some, you can go there.โ
It was time for lunch and I was very hungry. It wasnยดt a long way to our cellar.
โIt isnยดt a hard work for me. Iโll be back in five minutes,โ said I. I walked
downstairs. I opened the door and I looked around the room. I saw a window.
โMaybe there isnยดt snow. I will look outside.โ I opened the window. All snow
that was near the window fell into the cellar. It threw me to the other side of the
room.
I shouted the strongest I could. My mother helped me away from the snow hell.
Then I went to my bed and I slept for the rest of that terrible day. Next day,
when I woke up, I didnยดt see any snow. It was a brilliant feeling.
