DNV GL, previously trading as GL Noble Denton, UK 2012-12 to 2016-07
Finite Element Analysis
Structural analyses (linear, non-linear and fatigue) using ANSYS Workbench which included developing Inventor
3D models and importing to ANSYS to be defeatured into shell or solid models, meshed and analysed.
• DANA WIDP Offloading Reel Design 2016-05
- Structural assessments of offloading hose reels and hose loading station on FPSOs when subjected to excitation
loads due to the hose being deployed or stored.
- Optimized the design to fulfil DNV classification and client requirements.
- Presented the optimized design and key findings during discussion meeting.
• Product Storage Carousel Design 2016-06
- Structural analyses of the carousel and roller assemblies to assess the global and local strengths of the structure
when exerted to cyclically roller load.
- Weld fatigue analysis to assess the fatigue life of the structure using notch stress and hot spot methods.
• Jacket Launching Barge Design 2015-08
- Structural analyses of the barge, rocker arm, removable stern cover and seafastening cruciform under
seafastening and jacket loading.
- Structural assessment of the barge underdeck structure, bollards and towing points under towing loads.
- Performed a collision study of the barge and shuttle tanker.
• Connecting Bridge of Ferry Terminal 2016-04
- Structural analysis of the connecting bridge of a ferry terminal subjected to live, dead and environmental loads.
- Determined bridge weight and environmental loadings to feed into analysis.
• Hose End Valve Design 2015-10
- Non-linear structural analyses of a hose end valve to assess the contact pressure between the valves and
openings. Assessed the bolt tensions that were used to clamp the valves.
• Landing Craft Bow and Stern Ramps Design 2013-07
- Conducted structural analyses of the ramps and ramp fitting calculations at various loading conditions to allow
tank transportation.
- Findings were fed into the designs which were then installed on Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP).
- Attended discussion meetings with project manager, liased with yard crews, and monitored project progression.
• FPSO ALQ Modules Feasibility 2013-04
- Developed Inventor model and analysed the underdeck structure of the Accommodation Living Quarter (ALQ)
modules which would then be installed on an existing FPSO accommodation deck.
Mooring, Stability and Motion Analysis
Mooring, stability and motion analysis of service pontoons/barges and port walkways using MOSES, Ultramarine.
- Designed mooring and ballast system for pontoons and accommodation barges to remain berthed at harbour.
- Pontoon trim and stability calculations for offshore equipment, road bridges, and cranes transportation.
- Feasibility studies of mooring barges to an offshore platform/barge/quay to determine the optimum mooring
system under different loading and environmental conditions.
- Suitability assessment of walkways to handle heavy passenger traffic during peak periods. Determined operating
limits, mooring configuration and number of passengers on the walkway at one time.
2. Structural Design
- Familiar with Structural Codes and Standards e.g. LR, BV, DNV, ABS, RMRS, AISC, Euro Code 3, BS5950, etc
- Structural designs for service pontoons/barges including structural calculation booklets.
- Assessments of ferry access pontoons with very large L/D ratio and a large cantilevered roof structure.
- Load and scantling calculations for recessed deck barge for transporting SPMT via narrow canal system.
- Reviewed seafastening calculations and lashing plans for various offshore equipment.
- Calculation for bollard, towing brackets, fairlead, and lifting appliances designs.
- Produced method statement for the top deck removal of the Ro-Ro Linkspan at the ferry terminal which included
the equipment required, engineering considerations, HSE considerations and methodology for lifting operation.
Marine Warranty Surveys
- Conducted surveys and inspections for a number of load outs, transportations, lifting operations, seafastening
installation/removal, weld inspections, pre-sail away on-board inspections, cargo acceptance, etc.
- Site supervision for service reels, cranes and offshore equipments load out in National and International Ports.
- Attended flexible flow lines transpooling operation on a pipelay vessel and reviewed seafastening designs.
- Shadowed senior surveyor for suitability survey of barges, pontoon, walkways, bridges and connecting platforms.
- Worked with Senior Marine Engineer to work through the inspection reports to assess the work required to return
the FPSO to a state for hand back after a time charter.
- Surveyed Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) in connection with fabrication of subsea valves for a pipeline project
that included visual inspections, pressure test witnessing, Non Destructive Testing (NDT) such as MPI, Dye
Penetrant Inspection (DPI) of welds and final visual inspection of the units prior to delivery.
DNV Approval Centre, Aberdeen (UK) 2015-06 to -08
- Plan approval, type approval, design review and verification of offshore structures, such as offshore containers,
modules, and lifting appliances to DNV standard for class certification.
- A good understanding of Structural Codes and standards e.g. AISC, Euro Code 3, BS5950, DNV, etc.
- Reviewed and verified fabrication drawings including lifting appliances using SESAM GeniE or hand calculations
- Liaised with clients regarding technical queries, contractual agreements, monitored budget for each project,
coordinated with cost controller about invoicing.
DNV GL – Energy, Offshore Wind, Bristol (UK) 2014-12 to 2015-04
