1. What leader have you chosen to speak about and what company’s has he/she
worked for?
For this Assignment I have chosen Steve Jobs the founder and owner of one of the
largest existing companies in the world, Apple. Many may not know this but
Steve Jobs also invested in two other companies as well besides Apple, NeXT and
Pixar Studios. He was the co-founder along with Steve Wozniak in 1976 together
they made so many revolutionary products such as the iPod, iPhone and iPad, are
now seen as dictating the evolution of modern technology. In 1985 Jobs did left
the company to become a member of board of directors with Pixar Animation
Studios. Ten years later he did join back with Apple. Jobs did passed away in
2011 following a long term battle with pancreatic cancer.
2. What are some of his/her greatest business achievements?
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had a dream to create the first computer. At the age of 21
and a college drop out Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak decided to create the first ever
Apple computer in 1976. Since either one had jobs they came up with the cash by selling
Jobs Volkswagen bus and Woznick selling his favorite scientific calculator. Wozniak
created unique individual computers called The Apple I and Jobs was in charge of
marketing. The first ever apple computer was put on the market for $666.66 in one year
they only earned $774,000. The second model called The Apple ll was a huge success
and increased the company 700 percent leaving a total sale of $139 million. Another

great success that Job has is he purchased animation company from George Lucas called
Pixar Animation Studios Pixar has had many hits such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and
The Incredibles.
3.What are some of his/her biggest business failures?
After the big hit with Apple ll a serious of products from apple suffered a lot with
horrible model defects that result in a lot of recalls and upsetting all of the existing
consumers. Apple products were failing significantly resulting in the competition IBM
surpassing Apple with their increase in sells. Jobs decided to come up with a new
computer that target youth called Macintosh, but the sales didn’t compete with IBM or
new competitor PCs and Sculley believed whole heartedly that the founder Steve Jobs
was ultimately hurting the Apple industries. The company decided to demote Jobs to a
lower position in the industry resulting with Jobs resining in 1985. Jobs started a new
company in 1985 called NeXT that specialized in creating software and hardware for
computer operating systems. The company ended up struggling significantly resulting in
Apple Industries buying out the company in 1996 for a whooping 429 million.
4. What have you learned from their achievements and failures?
I think I can relate to a lot of what Steve Jobs has gone through in his short life and
career. I believe I have mentioned this once, but I am a huge lover of baseball. I started
playing baseball at the age of 6 and immediately fell in love with the game. I played ball
for 13 years and received a scholarship to Rice University. I lost it due to a knee injury.
The effects were irreversible and now I suffer from Arthritis. I’ve let this effect my life

for 9 years and I never fully recovered from the loss. I finally decided to turn my life
around this year and go to online college. I can relate and learned a lot from Steve Jobs
because he went through a lot of fails resulting in losing and being demoted out of his
own company and he didn’t let that affect him. Jobs went on to pursue bigger and better
things and as a result going back to apple over a decade later to create better products that
are all being used today.
5. Based on this article “21 Most Compelling Qualities” , point out at least 3 specific
qualities you think your leader exhibits to help reach their success? “All” is not a
sufficient answer.
Roughly based on the article “21 Most Compelling Qualities” Steve Job exabits vision,
resilience, emotional intelligence, and problem solving. Like most children who are
intelligent Jobs had a difficult time in school due to complete and udder boredom. He
dealt with the boredom by pranking students and faculty staff members. By fourth grade
the only way his teachers could get him to concentrate and study was by bribing him. In
later years he ended up scoring so high on the on the school exam that his principal
wanted to put him in high school, but his parents refused. I think this is a great example
of problem solving and emotional intelligence. He displayed emotional intelligence by
learning how to behave in school an cope with the boredom. He displayed problem
solving by intelligence in all subjects. Later in life he went on to creating and being
demoted out of his company due to much finance loss resulting in him buying out and co
owning Pixar. He also started another company called NeXT that creates and distributes
software for computers. In my opinion Steve Jobs is an “innovate thinker”. Jobs had a

vision on creating the world’s first computer and remarkable resilience. I don’t know
personally if I could bounce back like that after a global humiliating loss.
6. How might your leader’s perspective of media and entertainment products be
different from average fan or consumer?
Steve Jobs was highly intelligent and intuitive thinker from a small age he showed genus
level intelligence and found a love for electronics with his father by helping him take
apart things in their garage. He launched apple in publicly in 1980 and purchased Pixar
Animation Studio in 1986. I believe that owning the largest shareholder and help
managing Pixar defiantly gives Steve Jobs a different perspective on entertainment
products because he’s worked the media an entertainment industry his whole life starting
in college when he worked in a video game store. We probably wouldn’t be here with
computers if it wasn’t for Steve Jobs. He changed technology for many years to come.
