Plastifloor® MMA resins are fast curing 2 component acrylic resins, based on MMA (Methylmet-
acrylate).
For the reconstruction of concrete structured pools the focus of the private and commercial owner
is especially on fast availability of the pool, preferably without a long closedown of the pub-
lic/private bath, in order to save expenses for the lowest possible loss of time. These exactly were
the decision facts for choosing the Plastifloor®
MMA coating system for this private pool recon-
struction in South Africa by one of our approved contractors. The client selected the Plastifloor®
332 membrane produced by Plasti-Chemie Produktionsgesellschaft GmbH and installed by our
local contractor because it satisfies the client’s requirements and can already be used only 2 hours
after installation. The coating system is free of any joints, waterproof, easy to clean and hygienic as
well.
The following pictures show the procedure for the pool reconstruction with Plastifloor®
MMA res-
ins. They show the original state before and the finished coating that is fully cured only 2 hours
after the installation:
The old pool construction was cracked and leaking
At first, the existing but cracked concrete construction needed to be milled/grinded or required a
shot-blasting in order to remove cement slurry and/or old paints and to ensure a secure bond be-
tween the new coating and the substrate. Existing joints, cracks and holes need to be opened and
secured with stainless steel fibres, after priming these cracks and joints they were filled with mortar
Plastifloor®
510, thickened with Plastifloor® 540/h cove paste. Finally the substrate was deep-
cleaned with a vacuum cleaner before the new Plastifloor®
floor could be installed.

Grinding drying with torch primer Plastifloor® 112
The prepared substrate must have an adhesive strength of min. 1.5 N/mm². This value is required
for ensuring a secure bond of the coating system to the substrate. The floor was primed with
Plastifloor®
112 – with a consumption of about 0.4 – 0,5 kg/m². Partially the uneven substrate
needed revision with resinous mortar made of Plastifloor®
510 resin and mortar mixture C2 in
order to create an even surface. For closing cracks in the substrate, Plastifloor®
510 mortar resin
was mixed with Plastifloor s/l filler, mix ratio 1:1, and filled into the cracks that need to be closed.
Cracks are covered with fabric uneven substrate levelled with C2 installation of the membrane
Then followed the installation of a flexible membrane with Plastifloor®
332 - with a consumption of
about 1,5 kg/m² resin mixed 1:1 with s/l filler. This flexible, shock-absorbing intermediate layer al-
lows a seamless and permanently crack-free installation of the new resin coating with Plastifloor®
418 plus s/l filler, mix ratio 1:1 and 10% pigment powder.

Installation of Plastifloor 418 s/l clear sealer with Plastifloor 526
In order to achieve the required slip resistance as well as to enable an attractive colour
design, the wet coating could also broadcasted with colour quartz sand / glas beads or
color flakes before the top sealer with Plastifloor®
526 - with a consumption of about
0.8 kg/m² (double application) – will be applied with a roller.
The result is a perfect work only after 2 days installation time.

Plastifloor® floor coating’s advantage is obvious:
Due to the short curing times between the single layers, reconstruction works can be realised by a
specialized company within a very short time slot. Thus the client saves precious time and expen-
sees that would result from a loss of time.

For example a new tiled pool cannot be used immediately after installation and the problem of
joints that are quickly washed out by the water and cleaning will emerge again after a short period
of time. Epoxy resins are thermosetting materials. They do not withstand the thermal and dynamic
vibration strain in a pool or public bath. Thus a flexible and tough acrylic resin coating with
Plastifloor®
is the right solution for private and public clients.
