1. BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
SFC Vince Espitia currently serves as the Afghan National Army Special
Operations Command Special Operations Advisory Group (ANASOC-SOAG) First
Sergeant for the General Support Kandak – Special Operations Advisory Team (GSK-
SOAT). SFC Espitia also serves as the GSK S-2/S-3/Command Sergeant Major (CSM)
advisor to the GSK in Kabul, Afghanistan.
SFC Espitia began his military in March, 1987 at Fort Dix, New Jersey, entering
Basic Training as a 63W, Wheeled Vehicle Repairer. As a Private First Class, he served
as a Team Leader for the Texas National Guard’s HHC 3/112th’s Artillery Regiment.
Then-Specialist Espitia reclassified to a Petroleum Supply Specialist (92F) in 2002, and
subsequently deployed to Iraq in 2005, serving on the Personal Security Detail (PSD) for
his CSM while in-country.
After achieving the rank of Sergeant, Espitia graduated the Warrior Leader’s
Course in Camp Cook, Louisiana in March 2006, making the Commandant’s List. He
then deployed to Iraq, serving as the 449th Aviation’s NCOIC for numerous Forward
Aerial Refueling Points (FARP) throughout the country. From October 2007 to March
2009, SSG Espitia deployed to Afghanistan, serving as the Quick Reaction Force (QRF)
Platoon Sergeant for 436th Chemical at Camp Eggers, Kabul. SSG Espitia then returned
to Iraq, serving as the Platoon Sergeant for 1836th Transportation Company from January
2009 to February 2010. He served as a Squad Leader and Supply Sergeant for Charlie
Troop, 3rd Squadron 3-124 Cavalry Regiment from February 2011 to November 2012,
deploying with the unit to Africa for nine months. SSG Espitia attended the Advanced
Leaders Course (ALC) in Fort Dix, New Jersey in 2013, before mobilizing to Iowa to
serve as the Motor Transport Operator NCOIC for the Sustainment Training Center until
September 2014. After being promoted to Sergeant First Class, he deployed to Africa
once again as the Joint Operations Center NCO Team Chief with the CJ 3/5/7 Cell,
returning to the Texas National Guard in November 2015.
SFC Espitia deployed to Afghanistan in January 2016 with the NATO Special
Operations Component Command – Afghanistan, and serves there at present. His awards
and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service
Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement
Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd
Award), and the Combat Action Badge.
