Bal’s father gangadhar ramchandra Tilak was a Sanskrit scholar
and a famous teacher. Beacause of his scholarship, he had
become „Gangadharpant’ to every one
Bal learnt all the lessons at home and there was nothing left to
learn at school
Though bal was very intelligent he was not his teachers favourite
beacause of his mischiievousness

was started , Tilak strated two
weeklies. “Kesari” Was in Marathi
weekly and “Mahratta” was the
English weekly

when Tilak left the educational field and
1897, when he was imprisioned was very
significant in the life of Tilak.

10. A Lion In The Prison
The young editors agarkar and tilak were sentenced to 4
months rigorous imprisonment
Tilak’s article inspired the chapekar brothers and they carried
out assassination of commisioner rand and lt. Ayerst on
june22,1897,as a result of this, tilak was imprisoned for 18
months
During 1908-1914, tilak had to undergo six years of rigorous
imprisonment in mandalay jail,burma
During his imprisonment period he wrote his book „the arctic
home in the vedas‟and‟Srimad Bagvat Gita Rahasya‟ which is
a priceless work.

During Deepawali in 1898,Tilak was released from jail.The joy
of the people was beyond the words
There was a heavy rush of people to have „Darshan‟of Tilak
Bal tilak become “Lokmanya Tilak”
Tilak ,who was a Regional leader ,now became the National

advocates of swaraj(self-rule)and a strong

His famous quote “SWARAJ IS MY BIRTH
RIGHT AND I SHALL HAVE IT” is well
