PROBLEM STATEMENT OF TRAFFIC GURU
BASIC MODULE (1):
Design an automatic traffic controlled signal for four directions using only fundamental IC’s.
Construct signals for pedestrians crossing the road.
TRACK SPECIFICATION:
Circuit
P.S : Ample space will be provided to keep the circuit.
ADAPTIVE MODULE (2):
Include adaptive technology i.e., signals should adjust the time variation depending upon the
level of traffic in the corresponding direction. Any kind of sensor can be used to detect traffic
level. e.g., piezo sensor, light sensor etc. Traffic level will be provided and represented using
blocks of 6x6x6 cm. weighing about 400 grams. The levels of traffic are considered below:
1) Low – center of block at 8th cm.
2) Medium –center of block at 18th cm.
3) Heavy -- center of block at 28th cm.

All possible conditions will be checked and it corresponding level should be displayed in
SEGMENT DISPLAY. A block at particular position not means the corresponding traffic level.
EMERGENCY MODULE (3):
Emergency case. Provide green signal when the emergency button is pressed. E.g. Ambulance,
fire engines.
ALARM MODULE (4):
Your system should contain an alarm. i.e.) It should detect any of the below mentioned
conditions and produce alarm.
1) When the roads are dark produce alarm once for a particular time.(5 sec.)
2) When there is smoke.(will not be provided by organizer)given as an input…provision
must be given
3) Vehicles crossing the stop line when the signal is red.
(You can fetch bonus points by creating alarm for the all conditions mentioned above.)
INNOVATION (IMPORTANT) MODULE (5):
Any extra innovation to the circuit will give bonus points.
E.g.1) communication between one junction with another junction regarding traffic levels
2) keeping count of traffic in a particular time of day to have data base of amount of traffic
travelling.
3) instead of using switch in EMERGENCY MODULE(3) automation can also be included.
