This document introduces the concept of therapeutic tasks or "tareas" which are assignments given by therapists to clients between sessions. It provides five examples of typical tasks from brief systemic therapy. The examples illustrate tasks focused on observing exceptions to problems, acting differently as a family, disrupting problematic sequences, incorporating metaphors, and paradoxical prescriptions for working with obsessions. Therapeutic tasks can be more cognitive or more behavioral and aim to amplify solutions rather than just problems.
