This document provides an overview of high pressure high temperature (HPHT) wells. It defines HPHT wells as having a maximum surface pressure over 15,000 psi or requiring pressure control equipment rated over 15,000 psi. The document outlines a 20-point course on HPHT wells over multiple notes, covering topics like classifications, considerations, mechanisms, challenges, well control, drilling fluids, cementing and material selection. It states well control incidents are much more frequent in HPHT wells compared to conventional wells. The document encourages the recipient to follow the notes and contact the author via email for updates.

3. Course Outlines (20 Points in 20 Days)
• We will continue delivering the other courses same way so, keep
updated.
• We will go through 3 points by 3 points and each 9 points will have 1
note of review so as to be refreshed with knowledge.
• That would be great opportunity for a final assessment for each 3
notes, you can solve, send to me to m.abdelrazik6@gmail.com for
yourself to make sure you got the knowledge understood.

6. What is The HPHT
• There are two definitions for HPHT:
• API Guideline 17 TR8:
• Maximum anticipated surface pressure greater than 15,000 psi and
flowing temperature greater than 350 deg F
• OR requirement for pressure control equipment PCE or well control
equipment with rating greater than 15,000 psi
• Health, Safety Executive UK
• Non distributed temperature > 300 deg F
• Pore pressure gradient > .8 psi/feet
• Pressure control equipment > 10,000 psi

• Well control incident in
normal pressure wells 4-5%
for each 20-25 wells
• HPHT wells incident
frequency 1-2 incident per
