Development of Student’s:
Introduction:
 As per the syllabus Social Work Department organize the
compulsory education –cum- exposure “SOCIAL WORK RURAL
CAMPS ” in a rural area as the part of field work programme. It
has been organized for full 10 days staying at rural community.
 The social work rural camp provides an experience of group
living and development of attitudes conducive for effective
team work. It provides an excellent opportunity to the students
to practice and learn the use of PRA techniques, social work
methods, etc. It also provides how to identify natural resources',
watershed and work on ecological development , health
education, legal awareness and welfare issues. Social Work Rural
Camp gives an ample opportunity for social work students to
practice rural social work.
Objectives of Social Work Rural Camp:
 To understand the rural social system with special
reference to a specific (poverty) group.
 To analyze the regional, rural social system , the
approaches and the strategies of intervention used by
the organization.
 To understand the nature of govt. intervention in
relation to specific poverty groups in the region and
the related structures of decision-making and
intervention.
 To develop the capacity to critique the interventions of
both the voluntary organizations and the government
agencies in relation to the specific (Poverty) groups.
 To facilitate experiences of group living, appreciate its
values in terms of self-development, interpersonal
relationship, sense of organization, management and
taking on responsibilities.
 To acquire skills in planning, organizing, implement-
ing the camp for example conscious use of time,
communication skills, team spirit, handling
relationships, conflict and differences of opinion,
decision making, evaluation, appreciation, sharing of
resources tasks, coping skills in problem situations, co-
operation and coordination.
 Learners are fully involved in planning, implementing
the plan and presenting their experience in a
workshop on return from the camp.
 To encourage the learner to take on concrete tasks
towards from the camp.

Pre-camp Preparation:
 Every student has to make some pre-camp
arrangements, which are necessary to carry out Social
Work Rural Camp in a systematic and successful way.
During this pre-camp preparation period, the students
have to
o Identify the community and understand the its socio-
economic ,cultural practices and demographic
characteristics with the help of faculty supervisors .

o Framing the objectives for the Social Work Rural
Camp.
o Preparing the plans for programs schedule.
o Arranging resource persons and funds.
o Collecting co-operation with significant persons such
as non-governmental and governmental officials, etc.

 Preparing Action Plan:
o After the preliminary preparation, the entire camp
action plan or schedule has to be finalized by student
with the help, and guidance of faculty member.
-eg. Program Schedule ,Programe Invitation Cards.
2.Implimentation Stage:
 During the camp period, the students has organize the programs
as regarding the plan under faculty guidance .Motivation and
training programmes conducted in the camp for weaker sections,
women ,youth and for students also.

o Prabhat Feri (Morning Walk)
o Gram Sabha
o Women's Meeting.
o Youth Mandal’s Meeting
o Adolesons Girls Meeting.
o Shramdan (Gift of Labour)
o Yoga and Pranayam.
o P.R.A-(Participatory Rural Appraisal)
o Village Survey.

 As a part of Social Work training it is has been
compulsory to every student to attend and organize
the camp by student themselves.
 For increasing the involvement of student in Rural
Camp through participation in the camp;
strategically form some committees of student: eg.
o Planning Committee .
o Economic Committee.
o Programme Committee.

o Food & Water Management Committee.
o Information, Extension & Correspondence Committee
o Health Care Committee.
o Committee Against Harassment of Women
o Shramadan Committee (Common)
o Etc…
o And entrusted wholly responsibility to the student
committees.
3.SUMMING UP THE CAMP
 The student has to organize the valedictory function
after compilation of the camp. During this function,
the student’s villager’s, the panchyat’s and NGO’s
personnel share their views and their experiences of
the camp. Finally, all the concerned people who helped
to carryout the camp should be thanked sincerely
through vote of thank.
4.Evaluation of Social Work Rural
Camp:
 Point of Curriculum view :
As a part of curriculum the student participant has
submit the survey reports, day-to-day activities reports
and an evaluation report on rural camp activities to the
concern faculty member (College). And they have to
present a seminar on it along with co-trainees before
the faculty.

o Rural development is a crucial task in the developing
world. In rural areas knowledge dissemination and
awareness generation is basic tool to empowerment of
people as ‘Knowledge is Power’ in current scenario the
Social Work Rural Camps are unique in nature as they are
primarily organized by the Social Work Trainee Students
under the guidance of faculty members.

o This sharpens their Management and Leadership
Skill.
o This camps helps the students to understand the
social systems and seeks to feel the pulse of the
rural folk and provides the student to experiences
the ground realities of rural living.
o Rural camp environment and group leaving
experience helps her self/him self to brake her/his
own self circle of self centered thinking and then
she/he has realize other persons values.

participate in a such type of activities/task which the
teem members or her/his other colleagues has
conducted.
o In the process of conducting activity through
participation which happens through co-ordination,
cooperation and involvement of members etc. this
types of interactions facilitating an opportunities to
every individuals to develop their life skill’s like

It provides an excellent opportunity to the students to practice and learn the use of PRA techniques, social work methods, etc. It also provides how to identify natural resources', watershed and work on ecological development , health education, legal awareness and welfare issues. Social Work Rural Camp gives an ample opportunity for social work students to practice rural social work.

Objectives of Social Work Rural Camp:  To understand the rural social system with special reference to a specific (poverty) group.  To analyze the regional, rural social system , the approaches and the strategies of intervention used by the organization.  To understand the nature of govt. intervention in relation to specific poverty groups in the region and the related structures of decision-making and intervention.
  • 5.  To develop the capacity to critique the interventions of both the voluntary organizations and the government agencies in relation to the specific (Poverty) groups.  To facilitate experiences of group living, appreciate its values in terms of self-development, interpersonal relationship, sense of organization, management and taking on responsibilities.
  • 6.  To acquire skills in planning, organizing, implement- ing the camp for example conscious use of time, communication skills, team spirit, handling relationships, conflict and differences of opinion, decision making, evaluation, appreciation, sharing of resources tasks, coping skills in problem situations, co- operation and coordination.  Learners are fully involved in planning, implementing the plan and presenting their experience in a workshop on return from the camp.

  • 9. 1.Planning Stage Participation Pre-camp Preparation:  Every student has to make some pre-camp arrangements, which are necessary to carry out Social Work Rural Camp in a systematic and successful way. During this pre-camp preparation period, the students have to o Identify the community and understand the its socio- economic ,cultural practices and demographic characteristics with the help of faculty supervisors .

  • 11. Continued….  Preparing Action Plan: o After the preliminary preparation, the entire camp action plan or schedule has to be finalized by student with the help, and guidance of faculty member. -eg. Program Schedule ,Programe Invitation Cards.
  • 12. 2.Implimentation Stage:  During the camp period, the students has organize the programs as regarding the plan under faculty guidance .Motivation and training programmes conducted in the camp for weaker sections, women ,youth and for students also.  Programmes: eg. o Prabhat Feri (Morning Walk) o Gram Sabha o Women's Meeting. o Youth Mandal’s Meeting o Adolesons Girls Meeting. o Shramdan (Gift of Labour) o Yoga and Pranayam. o P.R.A-(Participatory Rural Appraisal) o Village Survey.

  • 21.  As a part of Social Work training it is has been compulsory to every student to attend and organize the camp by student themselves.  For increasing the involvement of student in Rural Camp through participation in the camp; strategically form some committees of student: eg. o Planning Committee . o Economic Committee. o Programme Committee.

  • 23. 3.SUMMING UP THE CAMP  The student has to organize the valedictory function after compilation of the camp. During this function, the student’s villager’s, the panchyat’s and NGO’s personnel share their views and their experiences of the camp. Finally, all the concerned people who helped to carryout the camp should be thanked sincerely through vote of thank.
  • 24. 4.Evaluation of Social Work Rural Camp:  Point of Curriculum view : As a part of curriculum the student participant has submit the survey reports, day-to-day activities reports and an evaluation report on rural camp activities to the concern faculty member (College). And they have to present a seminar on it along with co-trainees before the faculty.

In rural areas knowledge dissemination and awareness generation is basic tool to empowerment of people as ‘Knowledge is Power’ in current scenario the Social Work Rural Camps are unique in nature as they are primarily organized by the Social Work Trainee Students under the guidance of faculty members.
