2. INTRODUCTION
PMJDY is a National Mission on Financial Inclusion i.e to ensure financial
access to every citizen of the country.
India’s Prime minister Narendra Modi announced the financial inclusion
mission titled “Pradhanmantri Jan-Dhan Yojana” at the Red Fort on the
occasion of India’s Independence Day.
It is launched by Prime minister Narendra Modi on 28th August 2014.
Jan-Dhan Yojana is also known as “People’s Wealth Scheme”.
The slogan is “Mera khata bhagya vidhata” – my bank account,the
creator of good fortune.
3. About PMJDY
The name “Jan Dhan” was chosen through an Online Competition on the MyGov
Platform, received more than 6000 suggestions from Indian citizens.
7 individuals was suggested “Jan Dhan”.
Primarily the PMJDY Scheme is meant for those who do not have a savings bank
account.
Only 58% of Indian citizens are having a bank account.
4. Aim of PMJDY
To bring poor financially excluded people into banking system.
It covers both urban & rural areas.
Raise of Indian Economy.
To decrease corruption in Govt subsidy schemes.
Digital India.
5. Benefits of Bank A/c Under PMJDY
Account can opened with zero balance.
Not required to maintain any minimum balance.
ATM card can be issued.
Accident insurance up to 100,000.
Medical insurance cover of 30,000.
5000 of overdraft available only after 6 months if your account is found.
7. Phase I
(15th Aug2014 – 14th Aug 2015)
Universal access to banking facilities in all areas.
Providing Basic Banking Accounts and RuPay Debit card which has inbuilt
accident insurance cover of Rs.1 lakh and overdraft facility.
Expansion of Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) under different government
schemes.
Financial Literacy Programme.
8. Phase II
(15th Aug2014 – 14th Aug 2015)
Providing micro-insurance to the people.
Unorganized sector pension schemes like swavalamban.
Creation of Credit Guarantee Fund for coverage of defaults in A/Cs with
overdraft limit up to Rs. 5,000/
