3. Speed
A computer works with much higher speed and
accuracy compared to humans while performing
mathematical calculations. Computers can process millions
(1,000,000) of instructions per second. The time taken by
computers for their operations is microseconds and
nanoseconds.
Mr. V.Veeranan, M.Sc. Computer Science, Dip. in Yoga
4. Storage
A computer has built-in memory called primary
memory where it stores data. Secondary storage are
removable devices such as CDs, pen drives, etc., which are
also used to store data.
Mr. V.Veeranan, M.Sc. Computer Science, Dip. in Yoga
5. Diligence
A computer can perform millions of tasks or
calculations with the same consistency and accuracy. It
doesn‘t feel any fatigue or lack of concentration. Its memory
also makes it superior to that of human beings.
Mr. V.Veeranan, M.Sc. Computer Science, Dip. in Yoga
6. Versatility
Versatility refers to the capability of a computer to
perform different kinds of works with same accuracy and
efficiency.
Mr. V.Veeranan, M.Sc. Computer Science, Dip. in Yoga
7. Hardware Software
Hardware is further
divided into four main
categories:
Input Devices
Output Devices
Secondary Storage
Devices Internal
Components
Software is further
divided into two main
categories:
Application Software
System Software
Developed using
electronic and other
materials
Developed writing using
instructions using a
programming language
When damaged, it can
be replaced with a new
component
When damaged it can be
installed once more
using a backup copy
Mr. V.Veeranan, M.Sc. Computer Science, Dip. in Yoga
8. Hardware Software
Hardware is physical
in nature and hence
one can touch and see
hardware
The software cannot
be physically touched
but still can be used
and seen
Hardware cannot be
infected by Viruses
The software can be
infected by Viruses
Hardware will
physically wear out
over time
Software does not
wear out but it can be
affected by bugs and
glitches
An example of
Hardware is hard
drives, monitors, CPU,
scanners, printers etc.
An example of software
is Windows 10, Adobe
Photoshop, Google
Chrome etc.
