Uttam H G will present a seminar on super computers. Super computers can process jobs much faster than ordinary personal computers due to their great speed and memory. Seymour Cray introduced super computers in the 1960s at Control Data Corporation, developing machines that held the top spot in processing speed through the 1970s and 1980s. The first super computer was the CDC 6600. Super computer speeds are measured in floating point operations per second (FLOPS) in units of megaflops, gigaflops and teraflops. Super computers are used for highly calculation intensive tasks like weather forecasting, nuclear detonation simulations, data analysis, astronomy and engineering design integration.
This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.

2. Super Computer
A Supercomputer is a computer with great speed
and memory .The kind of computer can do jobs
Faster than any other computer of its generation .
They are usually thousands of times faster than
Ordinary personal computer.

3. Histroy
• Super computer were introduced in the 1960s and
were designed by Seymour Cray at Control Data
corporation (CDC), which led the market into the
1970s until Cray left to form his own company
Cray Resarch.
• He then took the super computer market with his
new designs, holding the top spot in super
computer for five years(1985-1990).

5. Measurement of speed
Super computer speed are measured in floating
point operations per second(FLOPS) in unit of:-
• Megaflops(MFLOPS)
• Gigaflops(GFLOPS)
• Teraflops(TFLOPS)
