•‘Karigar’ means artisan in Hindi. ‘Karigar’ is the retail arm of Asha Handicrafts (an accredited
member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO).
• Flagship Stores - Setup in 2007 with their first store @ Prime Mall, Irla spread across 1400
sq.feet , followed by Inorbit Vashi in 2008 (772 sq.feet) , High Street Phoenix in 2009 (429
sq.feet). Plans to introduce 9 more stores by end 2014 across India.

textile art in a contemporary designs, exquisite home furnishings, Warli paintaings from
Maharashtra, functional artifacts and traditional Hand Embroidery from Kutch, silver
jewellery from Rajasthan, Bidri inlay products from Bidar, and wooden boxes, letter racks
and essential home décor in seshamwood. The unique dokra and embellished wall
frames are a ‘must buy’ made from the women artisans in Ghazibad. We also do
South2South trading with Fair Trade groups in Bali, Phillipines, Bangkok…
The product range consists of – Apparel & Accessories, Home Furnishings, Home Décor &
Artifacts, Jewellery, Office Accessories with prices ranging from Rs 9 to Rs 2499/-, whereas

Asha Handicrafts is a not-for-profit making body, based in Mumbai, working
to promote Fair Trade and Fair Trade practices, which ensures that the
benefits of handicrafts production reach the artisans directly. The profits of
the organization are ploughed back towards fair wages, design and
development, training, education assistance for the artisans children, medical
facilities and financial and marketing assistance.

Dhokra craft is the earliest method of non-ferrous metal casting known to humankind. The word
“dhokra” literally means “oldest” and comes from the name of a nomadic group that specialized in
this art form. Adivasi (literally “original dwellers”) communities in the Indian states of Orissa,
Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal carry on the traditional Dhokra
craft methods, using the “lost wax technique”. This process involves twelve stages of preparation,
and threads made of beeswax form the intricate designs. The wax melts when the hot metal is
poured inside the clay mold, and the metal sculpture is formed. Consequently, one mould produces
just one artifact.
