To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to recommend Tzyy Ren Wong to you as a candidate for any entry-level actuarial science or
risk management opportunities you may be offering. I met Tzyy Ren as part of my “Foundations of
Actuarial Science” course which he took in the Fall of 2011, and have observed his dedication, hard-
work, and commitment to excellence first hand. I believe he could be a wonderful asset to your
organization, and support him in his employment pursuits.
As a student in my courses, Tzyy Ren was committed to success. He regularly attended classes, and
completed assignments fully and on-time. After an initial stumble in the “Foundations” course, Tzyy Ren
showed progress on each additional class examination and completed the course with a solid B. While there
were higher grades awarded in the class, Tzyy Ren’s improvement in grades throughout the semester was
unrivaled by his peers. This, I believe, speaks to his character and his willingness to invest the time and effort
to improve his understanding and appreciation of the discipline.
Tzyy Ren went on to enroll in the follow-up course, “Contingent Payment Analysis.” In this course, we
covered the mechanics and value of reserving , and we went on to explore more unique insurance and
annuity applications. Success in this class required a firm understanding of the core elements from the
“Foundations” course, and an ability to apply the base knowledge to new problems or circumstances. In this
course, Tzyy Ren performed extremely well. In fact, on the second exam during the semester, he received the
highest grade in the class. He ended the semester with an A- in the course with solid efforts across-the-
board.
An old saying suggests, “It is not how you start a race, it is how you finish.” Tzyy Ren finished my courses
with strength, and I believe he’ll only continue to grow as he begins his professional career. You learn a lot
about an individual when they are challenged. What I saw from Tzyy Ren is that when he is challenged, he
will elevate his efforts and do what it takes to put himself in the best position to succeed.
Tzyy Ren is kind, easy to work with, intelligent, hard-working, dedicated and committed to success. As such, I
think he would be a great employee to have, and I urge you to strongly consider him for a full-time
opportunity. If you have any questions, please contact me at 715-836-2527 or email me at dayhe@uwec.edu.
