TimBeckerRecommendation
1. 6 September 2016
To whom it may concern:
It has been my pleasure to offer my firm recommendation of Tim Becker for employment in your firm. I
have had the opportunity to know Tim quite well since June of 2015, when he joined my class as a
graduate student in my MGMT 526 Financial Management course at the University of New Mexico, and
have been constantly impressed by his capability and demeanor. Since that time, he has also taken (and
excelled) at my MGMT 579 Applied Investment Analysis course.
Both Financial Management and Applied Investment Analysis are demanding course aimed at graduate
students and seasoned professionals. The material, wholly new for all students who have been part of the
business program, draws on significant mathematical, communication, and problem solving skills. He
was consistently an A student, at times even scoring the highest grade in the class on material.
In all these capabilities, Tim demonstrated exceptional aptitude. Several characteristics that have
particularly impressed me include:
Problem Solving Ability: Tim has an acute dexterity for solving complex financial problems;
notably, he has one of the highest grades of any student in my MBA-526 class. He was dedicated
both inside and outside the classroom – he would frequently come to my office hours and discuss
material that was significantly more advanced than our finance courses offer. He has a
tremendously good sense for investing and understanding the complexities of risk-return
relationships.
Topical Understanding and Application of Logic: His inferences and intuition drive at the very
heart of the topic at hand, and he constantly evaluates his questions and decision-making on the
broader picture. In a topic where the ‘big picture’ is frequently lost to students focusing on vague
formulaic notions, Tim’s understanding of purpose in direction is particularly adept.
Self-Motivation and Dedication: Tim is profoundly self-motivated, able to work extremely well
under pressure, and tremendously analytical. He’s a self-starter and completes work timely and
more thoroughly than any of his classmates.
As a student, Tim was exceptionally courteous, communicative, and genuinely eager to learn.
It is students such as Tim that make teaching this material worthwhile and affirmative. His particular
combination of intelligence, commitment, perseverance, creativity, and compassionate character will
certainly make him a worthy of your firm, and I encourage you to look favorably upon his application.
Sincerely,
