2. INTRODUCTION
At the start of my media project I conducted a survey for my audience. In
this PowerPoint I will reveal the feedback I received and what I learnt
from it. This questionnaire gave me a clear view in what my audience
wants to see in an Indie/Rock music video. Through there feedback on
what codes and conventions I should use gave me a clear idea on what I
want my product to be.
3. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
I realised that my target audience will
be aged 17-18 years old and so I had to
target my music video to that age
criteria.
4. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
In this question I realised most of my
audience were males, through this
feedback I had to make sure that my music
video would appeal to the male gender.
This is why in my music video my band
members are all males.
5. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
In my audience feedback my audience stated
the colour they think most represents
Indie/Rock was the colours black and red.
These colours was something I incorporated
into my media product, as the logo of my band
is a bold red font with an outline of black. I also
uses lots of shaded locations in my music
video, as it makes it look more darker which
my audience think represents indie/rock.
6. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Artic Monkeys was a band that appeared
regularly from my audience feedback on who
they associate with indie/rock. I took this on
board and incorporated the mise en
scene this band used throughout there
music videos.
7. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
In my audience feedback my audience expect
to see a quite retro look within my music
video. This is what I achieved in music video,
as my use of mise en scene with the use of
clothing, lighting and the
location used helped make the video
retro.
8. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
In my audience feedback my audience expect a
Forrest to be the main location of an indie/rock
music video. I took this feedback by my audience
as advice and used a Forrest as one of my
locations in my music video.
9. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Though my audience feedback I learnt that
my audience liked narrative used in a music
video. This is the main reason why I
incorporated a narrative in my music video.
The narrative in my music video is that my
main band
member has left his former band to start
a new one. I also place a narrative that
things are not resolved between this
band member and his former band, as
my chosen song ‘Movin on Up’ can be
interpreted that he is moving above his
former band.
10. PRE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK-
CONCLUSION
Overall I have learnt that my audience feedback was a major help for me
before filming my music video. This was because through their advice I
knew what to include into my music video, as their feedback help me
define the indie/rock genre.
11. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- DRAFT 1
Audience feedback was very important in my first draft, as
my audience gave me advice on what went well in my
music video and what I need to improve on. One thing I
had to do was redo all my music video once again. This
was because my audience stated all of my shots were out
of focus. This obviously meant that I had to do my music
video all again, because if all my shots were out of focus
my product would have looked unprofessional. Another
thing I needed to improve was some of the clothing my
artist wear, as one of my complaints were that my clothing
did not fit well with the genre. This is something I
changed in my second draft alongside a new cast
member, as my audience also stated one of my band
members did not suit the indie/rock genre and that it
took away from the realism of my video and genre.
12. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- DRAFT 2
Audience feedback was also very important for the second
draft f my music video, as like it did with my first draft it
helped me dictate on what I did correctly in my music
video and also what else I need to work on in my video.
My audience stated that my use of locations in my music
video helped define the genre of indie/rock and that my
shots in this draft was much better than the ones in the
second draft, as they was in focus unlike the other ones.
However my audience gave me feedback on cutting more
footage in my music video, as some of the shots are
stretched out too long. This was something I worked on in
the 3rd and final draft of my music video and without my
audience input I would have never know on what to
improve in my music video.
13. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- DRAFT 3
The feedback I received in my third draft
states that my audience liked the locations I
used in my video, as it suits the genre and
also in my audience feedback they state
another positive thing about my music
video is the synchronisation of the track is
done well in my music video. However they
was still some changes to be made, as my
audience suggested more cuts at the
beginning of my music video, as it would
suit the upbeat nature of the song.
14. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FIRST DRAFT (FRONT COVER)
This front cover was liked by a few for it's use of originality with the
crystallization, also lots of my audience liked my logo for my band, as
it was a simple bold text which helped reinforce the genre of indie.
However some criticism I received by my audience was that I did not
have a clear image for the front cover and so they could not
recognise the band. This made me come to the conclusion that I
needed to make a completely new CD Cover. I was also advised to
make an album name to give me CD a narrative.
15. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FIRST DRAFT (BACK COVER)
For my back cover my audience felt the font for the track list
was not conventional and they also felt that not enough
tracks were on the back cover and that it also felt bare. My
audience also said that the image I used was not clear via
the use of crystallization. Like my front cover I knew I must
completely change my back cover.
16. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FIRST DRAFT (MAGAZINE AD)
My audience liked my simple design of my
magazine AD, however I needed to add
much more to it. I needed to add a twitter
link, website link and the name of the
album. I was advised to make my band
logo much smaller and also to make my
iTunes and Spotify logo much smaller and
place them to the bottom left of the
magazine AD. Unlike my other two
products I did not have to completely
change this product, as this magazine
helps define the genre of Indie/Rock,
because of the simple design in this
magazine AD.
17. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FIRST DRAFT (DIGI PACK)
My ancillary text feedback was a mixed
review, as they liked the other photos I used
for the inside of the CD and the actually CD
disk. However it was not fully completed. This
was because of the white background behind
the CD disk. My audience also recommended
me to use some of my images inside my CD
cover, as my actual front cover of the album.
I took this on board as in my second draft I
replaced the image from inside the CD cover
to the front CD cover.
18. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXT
SECOND DRAFT (FRONT COVER)
In the second draft of my CD Cover I took my audience advice and
used an image from inside the CD cover, as the main CD cover. I
also took my audience advice and inserted an album name in my
ancillary text. The name I choose was 'Payback'. This is because I
have created a fictional story of the main artist Charlie being in
another band beforehand. This was my reasoning for calling my
album Payback, as this shows clear links between the narrative in
my music video and my ancillary text. However I also considered
changing the position of the logo and album name, as originally I
place it at the bottom of the image, however I used a survey
Monkey to see if my audience would prefer to see the logo at the
top of the image. However it turned out that my audience preferred
it on how it was before.
19. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXT
SECOND DRAFT (BACK COVER)
In my second draft of my back cover I used a different image
that is similar to the main image and this was too add
continuity. In my audience feedback my audience see’s this
and states the image should definitely stay. However in my
feedback a negative of my back cover is that one of my artist is
not visible via the use of the track list and so I will have to
move this track list to somewhere else on the image.
20. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXT
SECOND DRAFT (MAGAZINE AD)
Even though my audience felt that this was better than my first draft
they still had criticism over my magazine AD, as they felt the band
logo was way to big and that through the use of the same font via the
band logo and album name made it very unclear and made the
magazine AD unclear. This caused me to change my font for my album
name, as I did not want my audience to get mixed up with the fonts.
21. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT SECOND DRAFT (DIGI PACK)
I did not receive a lot of feedback on my second
draft of my Digi pack, however my audience did
say that all my images used in my Digi pack is
acceptable, however when I make improvements
on my back cover I need to make sure I update
my Digi pack.
22. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FINAL (FRONT COVER)
As stated before this album cover was the one that
was chosen by my audience, as this won 9-2 over
the over album cover which had my logo at the top.
23. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FINAL (BACK COVER)
After receiving audience feedback on my second draft, I decided to
move my track list to the top of the page, so all of my band members
are seen in the image. However with my audience feedback from this
image, I got no improvement tips, as they thought it was good
enough how it was, as my audience state that my image is clear and
that my font was a nice and simple and went well with the product.
24. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FINAL (MAGAZINE AD)
I listened to my audience feedback and changed the font of the
album name from before when it was the same font, as my band
logo. I also made the band logo much smaller and the album cover
name much bigger this was because the audience would know what
the album name was called.
25. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY
TEXT FINAL (DIGI PACK)
Like my audience told me to do I updated my
Digi pack when I fully completed my back
cover. My audience did not give me any more
improvements for my Digi pack and that is
therefore the reason why it is my final Digi Pack
