Media Molding Of The World
Everywhere we look in today’s modernized world there are various forms of media that
shape our day to day interactions with each other. That newspaper stand you passed with the
bold headlines and the big lettering on the front page of today’s paper,, that radio commercial
you listened to on the way to work, and also in that news piece you watched before you go to
sleep tonight. It’s true media surrounds us in all ways shapes and forms. Now ask yourself have
you ever truly stopped and examined the message that all these different sources of media are
trying to convey to you? Also have you asked yourself how does this media affect you, if at all.
Personally I read a lot so the things I read really seem to shape my mind and mold my
way of viewing a certain situation. Also I enjoy watching movies, usually dark dramas and
horror films but again those forms of media have shaped the person I am today. It seems to me
that all the things that draw my interest be it music, film, or print have some element that draw
me in and speaks to the person I am or the person I aspire to be someday. That’s the thing about
media, in order for it to be effect and hold relevance to people it has to have a message it’s trying
to convey that draw people in, Language is a powerful tool that is really universal. Some people
may speak different languages but in the end the meaning remains the same. Words truly
withstand the test of time and really are the best tool for trying to reach a mass audience and to
really get your point out there.

Media in today’s world is utilized in a various numbers of ways. For entertainment, to
education, marketing, social change, social conformity, Fear is also another thing spread by the
media and that’s what I feel the main purpose of the news is. Everytime you turn on the news
you hear about all the natural disasters, gang violence, corrupt politicians and so on. In the media
why does the bad outweigh all the good in the world? Because the publishers and the authors of
these different forms are looking for the story with shock value, that grabs people’s attention and
bring them ratings and etc. I am sure that everyday we don’t hear about hundreds of great stories
daily but instead we have to suffer through another story about a celebrity who did something
outrageous. It’s truly sickening to know that people know and care more about the celebrity
world rather than the world that their children will inhibit and the real issues that will plague the
world.
In today’s media there are so many messages that portray how a men and women should
be. For females everything about them are sexualized, and it kind makes teenage girls feel as if
they aren’t pretty enough or skinny enough, and that they got to look like the celebrity on the
cover of some magazine. It also subjects men into thinking those types of models are the way
women are suppose to be and that’s the only way a woman is attractive. Men on the other hand
are not sexualiaed as women are, but it puts an image in peoples hands that men drive trucks, and
drink beers and have to be a strong working class type of man both in attitude and attire.
Also in media of all forms it gives people a sense of what life is and what life should be
like. It truly paints a picture of how life should be and what goes on in it. Not everybody’s life
plays out like “The Notebook”. In that though that’s what every girl wants and desire in their
life, not knowing that more often than not it’s an unrealistic expectation . On the other end of the

spectrum it can inspire people. It can help people think and consider what the world could be like
for the better if certain circumstances are reached.
In the end I think the perception of media is a case by case thing. Me and my classmates
could all watch a short film and each of us could walk away with something different. These
messages we pick up from all these forms of media is determined by things such as core beliefs
and core values, class, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and gender. One things is for certain
though we all use and interact with media multiple times throughout the day. There will be some
form of media that is geared toward a cause you care about, your favorite sports team, favorite
author, or a devastating accident that you as an individual take something from. We as people
evolve but in interests and as intellectual human beings, and as we evolve media will be there
evolving right along with us. Most of that will be making it easier to access and easier to follow
or in publishers finding new platforms to reach a wider audience. There is one thing for certain
we aren’t going away anytime soon, and neither will the presence and influence of the media on
our culture and mindsets.
Tyler,
As I said in my commentary, I think you have the right idea. You obviously do have a good
sense of creating and supporting a specific discussion in your essay. As we progress, I will just
want you to improve on explicit statement of your point. Clarify your point rather than burying
it amid your examples.
