The territory of Lerik region is surrounded by Talish
mountains. In the south and south-west it borders on
the Yardimli region, in the north-east of Lenkoran, in
the north-west of Masalli, in the southeast of the Astara
region.
Along the border of the Islamic Republic of Iran
stretches the Talysh Mountains, to the north of them -
the mountain ranges Peshtasar and Burawar. Between
the mountain massifs of Talysh and Peshtashar is the
Zuvand (Diabar) depression.
The highest points in the city of Camarcu (2,492 m) and
in the town of Joni (Gyz-yurdu) (2,433 m) on the Talysh
Ridge.
The vegetation cover mainly consists of rare forests
and bushes, as well as mountain forests. In the forests,
mainly grow pistachio, beech, hornbeam, zelkova.

We will not open any America, if we say that
Azerbaijan is a Mecca for tourists, and as
foreign and for local ones. You can spend all
52 weekends in a year and not go round all
the attractions of the Country of Fire. But it's
worth trying!

One of the most attractive places for
residents of big cities such as Baku is some
remote mountainous region, where you can
breathe the healing air, get a magnificent
tan, admire the untouched amazing nature ...
For this purpose, you need to go to Lerik and
Lerik region . From Baku, however, far away -
323 km, but it's worth it.

You can get to Lerik in many ways. The first and
simplest is on the machine. It will take you hours 4,
it will not be faster, because the trail to Salyan is
beautiful, but worse.
The second and most difficult is by bus to
Lankaran. The first bus from Baku departs at 7
o'clock in the morning, arrives at 13 o'clock. From
there to Lerik 35 km, you can reach the local bus.
But since the last bus from Lankaran leaves at 15
o'clock, such a trip necessarily implies an
overnight stay.
The third way is a trip with an excursion group.
There are pluses and minuses. Plus - it's no
worries for you, you're being taken, told, shown,
fed ... The downside is that Lankaran is usually
included in such a trip.
You must go to Krakow from Dabrowa
Gornicza, because there is no route to Lerik

And Lerik is worth to go there purposefully, take a
walk around the city, visit local sights, the
surrounding villages, admire the nature, the
unparalleled Talysh mountains, and then relax at
some recreation center, of which there is a
considerable amount. Such routes can also be
found.
In principle, if there were no sights in Lerik, just for
the sake of one nature is worth visiting this magical
corner.

Therefore, I will limit myself to only
one emotion: from the sight of this
miracle in the literal sense of the
word is breathtaking! You begin to
understand the delight of famous
travelers from various countries,
who called these places the most
picturesque in the world.

Alexander Dumas, for example, admired the
village of Khovil and painted it in his essays. He
did not forget the tremendous hospitality of the
locals.
“I testify: nothing has changed since then!
Wandering without a goal in a village, we lost
our orientation, we knocked at the first house
and, instead of the landmark, we received tea
with a magnificent jam, pies and watermelon.
Landmark later, however, also received. An
hour and a half later.”

Russian traveler, ethnographer, historian of the XIX century Ilya Berezin notes that "the
local population is very ancient, they are ancient Medes." Another Russian scientist -
archaeologist Yakov Hummel, after excavations in the Lerik region, carried the previously
discovered ancient caves to the Neolithic - a new stone age.
There are also more "young" attractions: the ancient settlement "Gyurdu" near the village of
Mistan, located at an altitude of 2,438 m, the mausoleum of Jabir XII-XIV centuries. near the
village of Dzhengemiran, the mausoleum of Pir Yusif near the village of Kekoni, the
mausoleum of Baba Khasan near the village of John, the mausoleum of Baba Isa in the
village of Mondigyah, the tomb of Khalifa Zakharia near the village of Dzhengemiran, the
mausoleum of Khoja Seyid XIV century. in the village Hanagyah, the mosque of the XIX
century in the village of Lyulekaran and others.

In general, 142 historical monuments are
registered and protected in the region, including
mosques, sanctuaries, mausoleums, etc. Under
protection are many trees, whose age is hundreds
of years.
As for the unusual nature, its incredible wealth is
due primarily to the fact that at small sizes Lerik
region managed to absorb five climatic zones.
When the smell of snow is felt in the west of the
district, in the eastern part there is harvesting -
tea, lemons, tomatoes, etc. When in the lowlands
harvesting ends, in the mountains the green grass
grows green.

When the soil suffers from a drought
in the southern regions, the same soil
is flooded with rain in the north. The
Leningrad biologists who visited
Lerik in 1965-1970 noticed with
admiration: "The very strange nature
of nature is the change in the weather
at every kilometer ..."
In principle, since then, nothing has
changed, so travelers are advised
even on the hottest day to take with
them just in case a windbreaker, it
will be 100% useful.

Rare, and sometimes endemic trees
and shrubs, the richest fauna of the
reserve - all this can not but attract
the attention of tourists. The only
thing you need not forget is the
permission to visit the reserve.
But even if you do not get into the
reserve, you will have something to
admire. Impressive waterfalls,
mysterious caves, panoramic views of
rivers, succulent meadows, as well as
the most delicious springs. By the
way, water in the district can drink
almost from under the roots of oak,
from the stream, as we drank. Drank
and even in the bottle typed - so
delicious!

As for the tourist infrastructure of the area, it
is not very developed. The famous "Relax",
which is located on the road to Lerik (not
reaching the distance of 35 kilometers), can
not accommodate everyone, although,
according to the tourists who visited it, the
recreation zone is beyond praise, the
services are amazing, the kitchen is also
amazing.True, some (and your humble
servant as well) are a bit confusing: why
leave the city, from its crowded and crowded,

everything is beautiful on the territory, there
is an aqua park, restaurants, playgrounds,
horses, swans, etc., the territory is huge,
even electric cars travel around it, they
transport people, but that unity with nature,
which can be obtained in less pathetic
places, Whether you will find.

I want something less civilized and more approximate
to the virgin nature. You can go to some vending
village, rent a room or even a house and feel at the top
of bliss. Service of this, of course, will not, but then
before your eyes, too, no one will be.
By the way, rural tourism is receiving increasing
attention from official authorities. The head of the
domestic tourism sector of the Ministry of Culture and
Tourism said several years ago that Azerbaijan has all
the opportunities for the development of rural tourism,
and in this regard several regions are planned,
including the Lerik region.

If you came to the area for one or two days and you just
want to relax in nature, then, except for Relax, you can
visit, for example, the recreation area Bülyüdül (20 km
from Lerik) or Zyarigala (17 km).
In Lerik, in addition to the stunning beauty of
landscapes that stretch across all four sides of the
world, there is one point of interest, only for the sake of
which you can go to this picturesque city and do the 8-
9 hour path in one day. This is the Museum of the long-
livers, the only museum in the world (!) Of its kind.

The museum was opened exactly six
years ago - in June 2010, and the
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev
himself attended the opening. The
museum is very nice, made of dark red
brick, built with all modern museum
technologies.
It has two large halls, in which more
than 2 thousand exhibits, more than 50
photographs of famous long-livers of
Lerik region, information about them,
unique personal things (including
government awards, gifts), audio
recordings of their voices, stories and
legends, things made by long-livers in
old age (carpets, stockings, clothes,
embroidery, etc.), and much more.

The museum is truly unique! By the way, the author
of more than 40 photographs in the museum - the
famous French photographer Fredrik Lashop -
demonstrated his works, made in Lerik, at the
exhibition "Journey to the Land of Long-Livers"
organized in Paris. These photos were exhibited later
in Baku, and a few years ago they were presented to
the museum by the French Ambassador to
Azerbaijan.
Director of the museum - Dilyara Fatullaeva - stood
at the origins of his creation, and in the museum
hangs a photograph of her 120-year-old grandfather.

In the last visit to your obedient servant, the
museum could not be visited - a man with a
magic key walked about in an unknown
location, there was no way to find it, but now
the situation has changed for the better: the
museum was opened. But to call in advance
and clarify the mode of operation is still
recommended.
The fact that the Museum of Longevity is open
in Lerik is not accidental. More recently, more
than five hundred people lived in the city and
surrounding villages, whose age has
exceeded one hundred years.

And they were not weak old people, but quite able-bodied
and active people, many of whom continued to engage in
the usual rural labor in 120-130 years. For example, the work
experience of Mahmud Eyvazov was, according to one data,
133 years, on the other - 135 years. And Shirali Muslimov at
136 years for the third time married and even became a
father! His wife was 57 years old.
Now the number of long-livers, whose age exceeds a
hundred years, unfortunately, decreased: for 2004, their
number was 48 people, and to date, according to different
data, long-livers less than 30. But this for one area is very
much, we can talk about a certain tendency.

The riddle of so many long-livers, concentrated in this place,
tormented scientists a very long time. On the example of
Shirali Muslimov, who lived the longest life on the planet -
168 years (1805-1973), Mahmud Eyvazov - 150 years (1808-
1958), Medzhid Agayev - 143 years old, and other scientists
try to understand what is the reason for such longevity? In
the healing mountain air? In the absence of bad habits and a
healthy lifestyle? (Mahmud Eyvazov, by the way, smoked his
pipe all his life.)
In proper nutrition? In the predominance of dairy products
in the diet? There is no answer yet, because both healthy
way of life, and ecologically clean food, and enchanting
mountain air are also in other places of the globe. And there
is no such concentration of centenarians anywhere else!

People's writer of Azerbaijan Suleiman
Rakhimov suggested in due time:
"Once upon a time local people
probably lived thousands of years".
And it may very well be that he was
right.
Some scientists explain everything
with genetics, they say, Talyshs -
namely they form the basis of the
population of the region - have some
special gene for longevity. If this point
of view finds scientific confirmation,
then we can talk about opening a
secret if not immortality, then longevity
- for sure.

"The rich contradictory nature of the
Talysh Mountains is reminiscent of the
land of miracles, and the secret of these
mountains has not yet been uncovered,
these places can be a great school of
experience for future scientists." Sin
Academician Mirali Gashgai wrote: "It's
a sin to be indifferent to the unique
beauty of this land.
