1. Dear Hiring Manager,
I know my passion, diverse skill set, and qualifications will make me a valuable asset to your team.
The construction industry has always been an interest of mine. I took some drafting and architectural
graphic classes when I was in high school and junior college. In my senior year of high school I placed at
the regional TSA competition with a home design project I had been working on in my Architectural
Graphics class. After placing at regionals, I was able to participate at the state level competition, where
again my work was recognized.
In 2012, I graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Marketing and started working for
Event Catering Houston as server. After working there for one-and-a-half-years, I was promoted to
Catering Director. In collaboration with my team, I was responsible for the day-to-day operational
activities of the organization, and effectively managed the logistic operations including: personnel,
inventory, and distribution. This position has given me insight into customer service and how to
effectively use it. During my time there I helped design several successful process improvements that
cut costs and improved customer service. I was also able to acquire new business through marketing,
and implemented new products to attract and meet customer needs. As a former college athlete, sports
have always been a passion of mine and last year I was offered an opportunity to work at Baseball Info
Solutions as a video scout intern. In this position I collected and analyzed data to find inefficiencies in
the Major League Baseball market using specialized computer software. Attention to detail, as well as
the ability to focus on multiple aspects of each game were strengths that I brought to this position.
I possess many key qualities that helped me succeed in athletics, and now these same qualities have
helped me excel in my professional career. Sports first taught me how to be a successful leader, and
how to effectively communicate and work together with my teammates to achieve a common goal. It
also taught me how to be dedicated to anything that I do, and how to manage my time efficiently. While
devoting 30+ hours a week to athletics and competing at a competitive level, I was still able to receive
many academic honors. I’m especially proud of being 1 out of 15 University of Houston student-athletes
to receive a Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal, given to student-athletes with a
cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher in that current year. In closing, I am thrilled at the possibility of being
involved with your organization, and would love the opportunity to meet with you and further discuss
the value that I can bring to your team. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing
from you.
Sincerely,
Travis Trial
