The Killers
1.
2. The Killers are an indie rock band from Las Vegas,
Nevada, USA.
They formed in 2001 and consist of four members:;
Brandon Flowers (Lead vocals, keyboard/synth),
Dave Keuning (guitar, backing vocals),
Mark Stoermer (bass, backing vocals) &
Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion).
Until this present day, they have released four studio
albums, several music videos and are still doing
world tours.
The Killers are very popular in England as their songs
have a higher position in our chart than in America
and The Killers are a favourite to play at British rock
festivals such as V festival and Reading&Leeds.
The main stories of The Killers songs and music
videos are relationships and
most of the videos have a style that represents the
album the song is from .
3. Each album of The Killers carry a certain
theme, so does their album artwork.
The thing that is kept the same is the
font/logo which only a few artists keep
the same. Because this logo has been
used on all of their albums, singles and
EPS, the audience will easily recognise
The Killers and except the same quality
of music.
Artists who change their logo usually do
it to keep their image fresh and their
audience engaged but the audience
would also expect the quality of music to
be different too.
The music videos made from the albums
would relate to the album artwork for
example the song ‘Here With Me’ off of
their most recent album ‘Battle Born’ has
a black and red theme to go with the
album artwork theme. This is probably to
keep the theme strong and recognisable.
4. The Killers current website is in the theme of their most recent album ‘Battle
Born’. This is completely to create excitement about the album so people
will go and buy it. The whole website is packed with information on The
Killers with boxes with live news feeds and live twitter feeds. With these live
feeds, the site is constantly being updated with new information to keep the
fans up to date and to keep the website fresh.
Despite having a tab bar with
shortcuts to other pages in the
site, the homepage of the site
contains a lot of information that
would also be under the tabs.
In some cases this can look messy
but the layout and colour theme
makes it easy to read and
navigate around the site.
The most important content is on
the homepage such as tour dates
which have a direct link to a site
to buy tickets. There are Facebook
and Twitter icons at the top right
of the website so it can directly
take you to those social sites to
get connected with The Killers.
5. Bones is an indie rock song released in 2006
off of The Killer’s second studio album: ‘Sam’s
Town’.
The music video director by famous film
director Tim Burton.
The main theme of the videos is light horror
with skeletons and images/scenes from
famous films such as Creature From The Black
Lagoon and Jason & The Argonauts playing on
a screen behind the band.
Tim Burton is know for directing horror films
such as Beetle Juice, Edward Scissor Hands &
The Nightmare Before Christmas so the video
for bones has a similar feel to these films.
This video was Tim Burton’s first music video
he worked on. He has recently directed
another music video for The Killers.
The story line of this video is about a couple who pull over on a beach for
then the women pulls her hair off to reveal her skeleton and the man to
take his top off to reveal his skeleton. The beach scene is based on romantic
comedy novels and film scenes which show a couple running across a beach
top each other because they’re in love except in this video they are
skeletons that smash into pieces when they collide. The band also turn into
skeletons and shatter to pieces.

6. Also from the second studio album ‘Sam’s Town’, ‘Read
My Mind’ is a indie synth pop song that is about a
relationship – like the majority of The Killer’s songs.
The music video is set in Tokyo where the band are acting
youthful by riding bikes, playing games in an arcade,
interacting with a popular children's TV character and
ending up in a capsule hotel at the end. They decided to
film the video in Shinjuku, Tokyo because they aren’t as
known in Japan – If they filmed this in London they would
have trouble with the public. The video shoot took 17
hours.
The theme of the video for ‘Read My Mind ‘is of a
completely different tone to Bones.
This is because ‘Read My Mind’ is about having fun and
reflecting upon the bright and innocent times of
childhood.
Tokyo is a busy, colourful city embedded with lights,
technology and people. Although the song itself is about
communication within a relationship, the video seems
irrelevant but still suits the genre of the song.

7. Overall, The Killers as a band have kept casual smart image with a few exceptions in
certain music videos eg. In the music video for the song ‘Human’ off of the third studio
album ‘Day & Age’ the front man Brandon Flowers wore a jacket with bird feathers on
the shoulder to match the theme of being in the desert which also matches the theme
of the album cover. The Killers have a lot of photo shoots and ideas for music videos in
the deserts as they are from Las Vegas, therefore are surrounded and inspired by
deserts.
The sound of The Killers have changed ever so slightly over the years from being indie
rock to indie synth pop but they have kept their image and logo in which they use
when playing live.
