Reconcile the Dead
Theme: Tradition Day of the Dead
Reconcile the Dead is a game that requires the player to gather at least 4
gifts needed to bring to the altar during Day of the Dead events. The players are
required to collect cards that are Day of the Dead related and if they receive any
3 cards that have to do with this theme they can get a gift if the color is selected
on spinner of the 3 cards that are in their hands. All theme cards have to be of the
same color and you can not lay them down unless you spin that color of the cards.
If the player receives the black card it is known as death and the player will
have to proceed with what the card says. There is a spinner that each player will
use to select which color card will be picked up. This is a two player game and can
be set up with more cards and colors to involve more. The game can be placed
anywhere just provide a table or anything to set down the spinner and cards to
proceed with this strategic game. This game provides several choices that the
player s have to do to obtain at least 4 gifts to win the game There are 6 cards
each in the player s hand and the gifts of marigolds, sugar skulls, candles,
incense, fruit and salt are set aside as separate cards and have to be a goal to
get. Throughout the game you can lose gifts and gain gifts depending on the
Death cards that you will receive. This game can be a very competitive game
that involves each player to obtain the gifts needed to win.

Flip coin to see which player goes first
Shuffle cards
Do not include the black(Death) or yellow (Gift) cards when shuffling
Pick 6 cards each
Put the rest of cards by color face down
Spin the spinner to select color
Pick up card that the spinner selects

Player has to receive 3 of the same colored cards that are themed Day of the Dead to be able to get a gift
When discarding Day of the Dead themed cards and picking up gift also receive 2 other cards from pile making a total
of 6 cards you will still have
Player has to show the other player the 3 themed cards to verify they have 3
If you trade card with other player, only player that received card has to give a red, orange or green card. Other player
can chose any card they have.
If you have to trade a gift, other player does not have to trade a gift just any card they want to get rid of
When a color is selected and a card has to be discarded it cannot be the one that was picked up on that turn
If player receives a total of 3 themed cards on a turn they will have to wait until they spin that color to place all 3 cards
down
If player has a total of 3 themed cards that say Day of Dead they have to be all the same color to receive a gift

9. Meaningful Actions Analysis Reconcile the Dead
Meaningful Actions Analysis: Playing Reconcile the Dead can be very competitive and entertaining at
the same time.
It requires you as the player to obtain all gifts before your other opponent. Here is a list of actions involved in
this game and if they are meaningful to the game or not.
Flip: The player is to flip a coin in the beginning of the game to determine which player is to go first. The
flipping of the game is not a meaningful choice because the players can choose any way they like to determine
which player goes first. So, flipping a coin does not have meaning to the game at all.
Shuffle: The players are required to shuffle all color cards except the black ones to obtain cards. This is not
meaningful because it will not affect the gameplay. The cards can be chosen in any order however the players
would like to play. So, shuffling the cards are not required nor have meaning to it.
Chose: The players are to chose 6 cards each to start the game. If the players do not receive any cards the
game can not start. So, this is a meaningful choice. Also, the players will have to chose which cards to trade
with the other player and also discarding any card will give the player a choice of what to do.
Spin: The players are to spin the spinner to select a color that they will be working with. This is a meaningful
choice because the spin will determine what the player is supposed to do for the next play. If there was no
determination of the color needed to pick up then the game could not continue.
Select: The player on the their turn has to select which card is represented on the spinner. Selecting the card
corresponding to the spinner is a meaningful choice. If the card is not selected then the game will not continue.
Also, the selection to what card you would like to trade with the other player when this option comes up. Also,
selecting on the players turn if the player has 3 themed cards and receives a spin of that color. They have the
choice to pick up a gift and select 2 more cards from pile. Selecting which cards to discard as well as trade with
other player are meaningful choices. So selection in this game is a meaningful choice.
10. Meaningful Action Analysis Continued Reconcile the Dead
Pick up: When the player receives the color that the spinner has selected then the player has to pick up that
color card. This goes in hand of selection but more in detail of picking up a card proceeding the color the
spinner has selected. This is not a meaningful choice because the player selecting the card has more meaning
to it. Picking up the card provides the player a card of choice not a selection to continue the game.
Discard: The players are supposed to discard any card out of hand once the black cards and other color
cards are picked. If the players do not discard any cards then the game can not continue. So, this is a
meaningful choice. Discarding a card requires the player to perform this action to proceed with the game.
Trade: The player will have to trade a card or a gift to the other player. This is a meaningful choice because
choosing which card from your hand to get rid of. You are trying to keep collecting themed cards so you can
get a gift. So If you have to trade a card, it might be a card that is part of your collection and you can lose what
you have gained. Also, trading a gift can take away from the gifts that you have collection and in turn can
make the other player win by giving them the last gift they needed.
