2. How audience research was effective
- I decided that our target audience were young adults aged
16-19, as the psychedelic-rock genre is colourful and there
are a range of approaches to a video, when considering
conceptual, performance and narrative. Our audience
research begun once we decided our song and genre,
however our video follows performance-narrative with an
underlying concept of rebellious attitudes and freedom
connoted by the star’s behaviour throughout the video. He
found the release of stress, by leaving his 9-5 job, even if it
was temporary. The age of the audience influenced this
concept as it follows the common stereotype of rebellious
young adults, more specifically teenagers.
3. How audience feedback was effective
- Our target audience for our video aimed at teenagers of
both genders aged 16-19, within the video we showed a
range of conventions which appealed to our target
audience. The way we represented the star of the video
showed the stereotype of young adults being rebellious,
the success from our focus group, along with the surveys
which asked the age and gender of the audience supports
this point, by showing that our target audience had a
positive reaction to the video. The range of audience
research makes the positive reaction reliable as we asked
people people from a range of genders and ages.
4. How audience feedback helped construct my video
- Following a series of rough cuts, I used the constructive
feedback from the audience to improve on the video’s pacing
and to film/improve a range of shots. This feedback allowed my
video to improve aesthetically and create a deeper meaning
behind the video. I was given the idea to reverse the video by a
member of the audience, as it gave a sense of narrative that the
star always ends up returning to his job, despite the stress and
unhappiness it brings him. With audience feedback, we were
able to understand the strengths and weakness of our video,
and how we can make it more appealing to the audience. We
decided to add a lighter tone of colour grading following
audience feedback, to make the video more interesting.
5. Audience reaction to Digipak
My digipak was well received by a majority of people
that I showed it to. The audience said that the colour
scheme is consistent, whilst also fitting the genre of
music. The representation of the star in the digipak
was also good, as it mirrors the way his character is
represented in the video. The colours also connote the
sense of escapism that the character finds in the
video. I designed the digipak so that it fits with the
style, making it more professional, despite the vibrant
colours, there is no happy tone to the video which is
built by facial expression and body language. The
audience recognised this and gave it credit.
6. Audience reaction to advert
The advert again fits in with the rest of the production,
by using the same colour palette. The audience said
that although it is slightly too vibrant, that it still fits the
genre and appears professional for this reason. The
world tour dates were complemented as well as the
Apple Music logo and digipak as it reflects real
connotations of a digipak advert.
