1. To Whom it May Concern:
I am seeking an HVAC Management or Lead HVAC Project Engineering position for marine,
industrial, military, healthcare, and commercial projects within the United States.
My varied career experience includes thirty plus years as an HVAC Project Manager, Lead
Engineer, and Design Engineer. Other experience also includes fire protection and plumbing
design. Each project has provided opportunities to excel in a team environment while leading
and assisting HVAC folks, coordinating with other disciplines, participating in client meetings,
providing site construction support, and creating contract documents (specifications, drawings,
and equipment schedules). The ultimate job satisfaction is obtained from executing and
completing a project with a great team and obtaining repeat client business.
There are many challenges and constantly changing priorities in my current engagement as a
lead HVAC marine engineer. Principal responsibilities include design and construction support
with large new offshore platforms living quarters (50,000 SF) and miscellaneous buildings
(18,000 SF). This assignment incorporates the HVAC discipline as one of the last disciplines
brought in to engineer and fully coordinate HVAC systems with other disciplines (electrical,
controls, fire and gas, life safety, structural) and client specific specifications in an expedited
schedule for all the HVAC deliverables (specifications, schedules, drawings, and reviewed
HVAC submittals). The expedited process is necessary to provide the HVAC systems
equipment (including all customized air cooled chillers, air handling units and air cooled
condensing units) for installation during assembly of the all seal welded metal buildings within
structural framed modules on the platform. The high profile status of this project requires
excellent written, speaking, and communication skills; superior organizational ability;
reprioritization of task work sometimes daily per evolving construction schedule demands; close
coordination with all affected disciplines; an attention to detail and big picture issues during the
project progression; and an general understanding of the major underlying platform processes
as these affect the HVAC system locations and operations. Truly this assignment has been one
of the most professionally rewarding and challenging in my career. Client satisfaction has been
so positive that I was assigned to a total of 3 new projects for new offshore platforms. This
multiple project assignment has been for 7 continuous years.
Please refer to my resume for a summary of other qualifications, achievements, experience, and
education. References and more detailed project experience are available on request.
As always, the best impression is face-to-face. I am hoping to meet with you at your earliest
convenience.
Best Regards,
Tom Johnson, P.E.
