Welcome to the Home of the hillcrest Vikings
1. Welcome to the Home of
the Hillcrest Vikings
2016-2017 School Year
English Class Expectations
Mrs. James, Teacher
2. My Educational Philosophy
Learning at the high school level is like a melting pot– we all learn
from one another and apply it everyday.
Motivation is key in fostering curiosity and discovery in learning
Active learning inspires students to learn and comprehend in a
student’s own way.
Patience and positivity are of virtue
3. Attendance and Class Participation
For every unexcused tardy, five points will be taken from your overall
grade. It’s important to be on time to class so you do not miss any
important announcements or lessons.
Everyone will have a turn in participating in whole class discussions.
Remember, share your thoughts in a respectful manner as you want
others to be respectful toward yours.
4. Grading Scale
For tests, papers, and other
non homework assignments:
• A: 100-93
• B: 92- 84
• C: 83- 76
• D: 75- 70
• F: 69 and below
Home work assignments are
graded for completion (50
points total). These will help
raise an undesirable grade
with extra effort.
5. Homework & Make-up Assignments
• Homework: It will mostly consist of reading assignments which will
be given when necessary. Other assignments (non reading material)
will be given every other week. Thus, it’s important to complete these
as they will be graded for completion.
• Make-up Assignments will given for students who are absent or wish
to improve a grade on an assignment they did not successfully pass. A
grade of “D” or “F” can only be redone.
6. Respect Yourself and Dress Yourself
• Please, come to class presentable
and ready to expand your mind.
Do not expand the length of
exposing your behind-- sagging
is not presentable at anytime in
any public place.
• Please, respect yourself and dress
appropriately. Do not show
everything you were born with.
7. Rules for the Class
• Be thoughtful when working with your fellow classmate. He or she
will return the favor you show to him or her.
• Always ask questions– how else will learn if you do not?
• Taking from others will cause you more trouble than making the effort
to respectfully borrow something from someone.
• Talking with someone whom you have a disagreement with solves
many problems– using your fists and other harmful items create
unnecessary stress, harm, and trouble.
• Always be fair!
8. About the
Teacher: Who Is
Mrs. James
• I am a very creative individual
who loves writing, reading, and
educating.
• I have a passion for English and
a bigger passion for learning.
• I care about those who strive to
achieve their greatest potential.
• I wonder, at times, if I am doing
enough to help my community
9. • Like the Green and Blue lanterns my husband and I love so
much from DC Comics, I hope for the best when teaching
others and show will when someone tells me that I can not
make a difference with the students I educate.
• I see my students like ripe apples who are ready to be shaken
from a tree– when ready, they produce the best recipes.
• I believe that I can make a difference whether I reach one,
two, or three students at a time.
• I am not only your teacher; I am the other person, along with
your parents, who will help through your worst and best.
10. Everyday Is A Step Toward
Your Success
Let’s make this school year the year you accomplish
you highest and greatest goals!
