3. The main institution used to produce Napoleon Dynamite was
MTV Films, which are our fairly small production company that
produce mainly low budget films.
Main institutions…
On the other hand for The Dark Night Rises the film production
companies used to create the film were 4 including: Warner Bros,
Legendary pictures , DC Entertainment Inc. and Syncopy Inc.
You can tell this a higher budget film because more institutions
were used to produce and distribute the film.
4. For the ‘high budget’ film which was The Dark Night
Rises, a ridiculously large amount of money was used
to create the amazing special effects and to advertise
this film globally. It’s budget was estimated a
whopping $250 million. Also due to having on of ‘The
Big Six’ film production companies it cost more to
produce the film and because it was distributed not just
using one company but 4 different companies.
The budget…
For the ‘low budget’ film which was Napoleon
Dynamite, a tiny amount of $400,000 was used
to make and distribute the film. This is a lot
lower than the ‘low budget’ money mark which
is $2 million for the film, meaning that it is
extremely low budget.
5. Although the film ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ started
of as a low budget film that no-one recognised,
now is a different story. The film made a gross
profit of $44,940,956, this is thanks to its
individuality and uniqueness which everyone
loved.
Profit from the films…
Although the film ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ started
of as a low budget film that no-one recognised,
now is a different story. The film made a gross
profit of $44,940,956, this is thanks to its
individuality and uniqueness which everyone
loved.
And then for the film ‘The Dark Night Rises’ it
made a estimated gross profit of $433 million.
This is nearly double of what they spent to
make the film.
6. For ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ the production
company “MTV Films” are not very well
known but they have created some low budget
films which have become very popular and
created a large gross profit. Other films that
they have produced are the franchised films of
Jackass.
How well known are the
production companies…
For ‘The Dark Night Rises’ the main production
companies is one of the most well known in the film
industry and this is Warner Bros (Also one of ‘The Big
Six’). A major film franchise to be produced by Warner
bros is Harry Potter, which is one of the highest earning
films of all time. Raking in an amazing $10 billion
through the franchise of films. And the other three
production companies are less well known.
7. There are many differences between the Low budget and
high budget film institutions. Warner bros had a lot larger
budget when producing The Dark Night Rises when the
other hand MTV Films where restricted to a very small
budget to produce Napoleon Dynamite. This shows that
MTV Films did not get as much interest on the film and
less companies where willing to take a risk on the film. But
for Warner bros so many distributers knew they were
guaranteed success with The Dark Night Rises due to the
success of the other Batman films.
Also Napoleon Dynamite was a one of film meaning that it
did not have a franchise of films but instead was a solo
film. But for The Dark Night Rises it is a large Franchise of
films and already has a major fan base, when Napoleon
Dynamite did not have a fan base but had to gain fans.
Differences between the
institutions…
8. A similarity between the high and low budget in term of
institutions both MTV Films and Warner Bros have
produced and distributed some very successful
franchise films like the Jackass films and the Harry
Potter films. Also both institutions have made a large
gross from most of their films, meaning they did not
make a loss. For example: warner bros made $39 million
in the opening weekend.
Similarities between the high
budget and the low budget in
terms of the institution…
9. Warner Bros:
Other films include-
Harry Potter
Inception
The Hangover
The Hobbit
Magic Mike
Gravity
All of these films which Warner Bros
produced where nearly all as
successful than ‘The Dark Night
Rises’. This is because most of them
are film franchises therefore they
already have loyal fans, whom will
want to watch the new franchise film.
Other films by these
production companies…
MTV Films:
Other films include-
Jackass: The movie
Dance Flick
Save the last dance
Blades of glory
200 Cigarettes
Most of these films are fairly old and
are not very successful films. I think
this is due to the fact that because
these films were made on a low
budget, special effects, cameras and
props will not be as advanced.
Therefore will not appeal to as many
people.
10. Warner Bros generally produce films with the genre of
action and thriller, for example: Batman, Inception and
gravity. It is important to consider what genres certain film
companies produce because they will be more skilled in
making a film under that genre. Because they would have
had more experience in that certain style of film.
With MTV Films there is also a certain genre that the
company tend to produce, this genre is comedy films and
also some rom-coms.
Genre of films the company
usually produces…
11. The audience that Warner Bros is trying to appeal to with its
films is around 16- 25 year olds. This is because there is a lot of
action and fictional films which usually appeals to teens and
young adults. The gender they are aiming for is a complete
mix, for example for Magic Mike it appeals to women
generally but The Hobbit appeals more to men.
The audience that I believe MTV Films are trying to aim the
films they produce at are older than Warner Bros. The
audience age group is around 30-40 year olds because they are
older more classic films. And these films also can appeal to
both sexes, for example Jackass: the movie would most likely
appeal more to men but Dance Flick would be aimed more at
females.
Audiences that each
institution aim their
films at…
12. After a lot of research into both institution I believe that the
company which could claim to be more successful would
definitely be Warner Bros. This is because it is a larger
company which has more films, this means more
experience in producing and distributing films. Another
reason is that there are a lot of film franchises produced by
this institution. Which means the film already has admiring
fans of the films and therefore will automatically want to
see the other franchises of the film if they enjoyed the
others. Also with higher budget films being produced and
distributed by Warner Bros it means that there will be a
higher amount and higher quality of advertising, helping
the film to become more well known.
This is why I believe that Warner Bros could claim more
success that MTV Films.
Conclusion…
