academically. All facets of education
from pre-school to higher education
opportunities are provided by learning
services in the community.
Greater Amsterdam School District. Early childhood
education is provided by three pre-school programs currently
offered by the school district. From there, students progress
to one of four elementary magnet schools with areas of
concentration consisting of Arts in Education, MicroSociety
Studies, Engineering and Communications, International
Studies and a Literacy Academy for middle school students.
Amsterdam High School affords young learners with the
educational repertoire necessary for advanced learning at the
collegiate level including AP and college-level courses, senior
seminars, electives and foreign language classes.
RFM BOCES. The Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of
Cooperative Educational Services is a New York State
Education Department program that partners with the GASD
to provide high school students with career and technical
training in areas such as auto technology, computer
information systems, culinary arts, environmental
conservation and digital multimedia.
Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The SUNY
network community college provides area students with
certificate and associate degree programs and is ranked
among the top SUNY colleges for curricular excellence.
FMCC also partners with Amsterdam High School to provide
college learning experiences to high school seniors who wish
to jump start their higher education careers. In addition, FMCC
is currently working to create the Center for Engineering and
Technology on its campus to provide students with additional
resources and learning paths.
Extra-Curricular Activities. The academic experience is further
enriched by the offering of multiple extra-curricular activities
within the GASD including modified, junior varsity and varsity
sports programs, an award-winning marching band, social clubs
and organizations and theatrical productions performed by local
talent.
