11. Microsoft Azure Terminology Azure paired regions
An Azure region consists of a set of data centers deployed
within a latency-defined perimeter and connected through a
dedicated low-latency network. This ensures that Azure
services within an Azure region offer the best possible
performance and security.
An Azure geography defines an area of the world
containing at least one Azure region. Geographies define a
discrete market, typically containing two or more regions,
that preserve data residency and compliance boundaries.
Fault domain: The collection of virtual machines in an
availability set that can possibly fail at the same time.
Region: An area within a geo that does not cross national
borders and contains one or more datacenters. Pricing, regional
services, and offer types are exposed at the region level.
Geo: A defined boundary for data residency that typically
contains two or more regions. The boundaries may be within or
beyond national borders and are influenced by tax regulation.
Image: A file that contains the operating system and application
configuration that can be used to create any number of virtual
machines. In Azure there are two types of images: VM image and
OS image.
Role: A means for controlling access that can be assigned to
users, groups, and services. Roles are able to perform actions
such as create, manage, and read on Azure resources.
Subscription: A customer's agreement with Microsoft that
enables them to obtain Azure services.
Virtual network: A network that provides connectivity between
your Azure resources that is isolated from all other Azure tenants.
12. Azure VMs
Services Used with VMs
for IBM Spectrum
Virtualize for Public
Cloud:
• Availability Sets (to ensure
availability of VMs)
• VPN Services: Load Balancer,
Subnets, IP Address, Network
Security Group
• Azure Virtual Machines are part of the compute services
that are offered on Microsoft Azure
• They come in many sizes with different configurations of
RAM, CPU and bandwidth
• They are used to deploy applications on Microsoft Azure.
• Azure VMs are sold through Azure Marketplace, in the
customer’s own subscription (or through an MSP)
• In Version 8.4.3, IBM Spectrum Virtualize for Public
Cloud supports 3 types of Azure VMs to create SV
“Nodes” in Microsoft Azure.
• The VMs used for Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud
are configured with RHEL OS
• Other Services available on Azure are also used in
conjunction with the Azure VMs such as Availability Sets
13. Azure Managed Disk
Azure Managed Disk available

• Standard SSDs
• Block Storage on Azure designed to be used with Azure VMs
• High Performance and Durable Block Storage for Business-
Critical Applications
• Disk sizes come in options from 4GB to 64TB at various
performance and price points
• Azure Managed Disks are sold through Azure Marketplace, in
the customer’s own subscription (or through a service
provider)
• Azure Shared Disks is a feature of Azure Managed Disks,
which allows attaching a managed disk to multiple VMs
simultaneously. This feature is exploited by IBM Spectrum
Virtualize for Public Cloud 2-node cluster in Azure.
• Shared Disks use SCSI Persistent Reservation to enable
sharing of a single disk between two or more VMs.
• Managed Disks that support Azure Shared Disks today are
Premium SSDs, Standard SSDs and Azure Ultra Disks.

44. AWS Terminology
EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud): Service enabling to launch
virtual machine instances with a variety of operating systems
EBS (Elastic Block Store): persistent block storage
volumes for use with Amazon EC2
Availability Zones: Distinct locations that are engineered to
be insulation from failures
VPC (Virtual Private Cloud): Virtual network in your own
logically isolated area within the AWS Cloud populated by
infrastructure, platform, and application services that share common
security and interconnection
CloudFormation Template: Creates and configures AWS
resources and figures out dependencies
AMI (Amazon Machine Images): Template that contains
a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an
application server, and applications)
S3 (Simple Storage Service): Storage for the Internet. You
can use Amazon S3 to store and retrieve any amount of data at any
time, from anywhere on the web.

Recommended EBS types:
• General Purpose SSD (gp2)
• Provisioned IOPS SSD (io1)
• Throughput Optimized HDD (st1)
Easy tier across different type of EBS
• Max 20 EBS volumes per IO group
with max of 256TB backend capacity
• Attached to single node (EC2) but
accessible to all nodes through
forwarding (FW) layer
• Auto failover
Surviving node will take over EBS
from failed node
• Auto load balance
EBS will eventually distribute evenly
across all online nodes
49. Elastic Block Store – availability/durability considerations
• EBS provides an availability guarantee of 99.999%
• EBS provides a durability guarantee of 99.8-99.9%
For example, if you have 1,000 EBS volumes running for 1 year, you should expect
1 to 2 will have a failure.
• EBS can only be accessed from the same availability zone
• By default, no extra RAID exists on top of EBS
• Two EBS volumes could be backed by the same physical hardware in AWS, so a
mirror between the same type of EBS volumes might not always provide the
desired availability.
• To overcome this and improve availability, the recommendation is to mirror between
different types of EBS to protect from one backend hardware failure. (Note: The two
different types of EBS could have different performance attributes)
50. EBS - Capabilities and Limitations
• EBS sizes range from 1GB to 16TB
• Support for 20 EBS Volumes per node
• With a total capacity of a cluster to 320TB
• EBS can only be used by a single EC2 at any given time (no shared access)
• IO to EBS goes through dedicated bandwidth
• For a given EBS volume, IOPS are determined by type or capacity and will be throttled by AWS if IOPs are overrun
• The EC2 instances available for Spectrum Virtualize for Public Cloud have the maximum allowed EBS bandwidth
• EBS can attach to / detach from EC2 instances through a management console or AWS API
For an EBS volume NOT attached to an EC2 instance, it will be displayed as ’available’ in the AWS console
For an EBS volume ATTACHED to an EC2 instance, it will be displayed as ‘in-use’ in the AWS console
• An EBS Volume belongs to a single Availability Zone (AZ) and can only attach to an EC2 instance in the same AZ
51. 4 Node Cluster on Amazon AWS
In this release, customer will be able to:
1. Create a new 4 nodes SV cloud cluster with the CloudFormation Template (CFT)
• The user can select 1/2 IO group in the CFT based deployment
2. Expand existing 2 node cluster to 4 node cluster
• Two ways to add two new nodes:
1. By updating existing CFT stack.
With limitations that existing nodes configurations must be unchanged: EC2 types, number of nodes, IP configurations.
2. Or install another 2 nodes cluster and then make both node leave the cluster to become candidate nodes
• Add new nodes into cluster
3. Shrink existing 4 node cluster to 2 node cluster
• By updating existing CFT stack

54. Data Reduction
in the Cloud
• Data Reduction Pools (DRP) are
enabled on Spectrum Virtualize
for Public Cloud.
• Deduplication is available on
both the IBM Cloud and on AWS.
• Compression with DRP volumes
is available on AWS.
• Up to 65% savings in capacity is
achievable on AWS, saving cost
on EBS Storage.
55. Data Reduction Pools (DRP) in Cloud
In release 8.3.1 we enabled DRP which is an increased storage efficiency functionalities that will allow
customers to:
• Automatically de-allocate and reclaim capacity of thin provisioned volumes that had data deleted.
• Reclaimed capacity can be reused by other volumes.
• Use the deduplication process to identify unique chunks of data, or byte patterns, and stores a
signature of the chunk for reference when writing new data chunks.
• Depending on the data and workload, this can provide customers with the ability to reduce their monthly
costs of EBS or IBM Cloud block storage.

64. Three Primary Use Cases
for SV4PC
Hybrid Cloud:
• 55% of Enterprises currently have a hybrid cloud (2021 IDC), seeking
to deploy apps in the optimal location for cost and performance. Also
using Cloud for Data Protection instead of on premises.
• SV4PC provides data mobility services, reduces cloud infrastructure
costs, and provides a consistent user experience.
All In Cloud:
• For Enterprises going Cloud Native (digitally oriented), or Lift and Shift
of Business-Critical apps (Ex: SAP), these customers are challenged
to achieve the performance requirements they need and keep costs
down, as well as provide consistent security for their data.
• SV4PC can optimize and save costs on storage IaaS, integrates with
Cloud Native platforms like RH OCP and Kubernetes, and provides
more advanced features than native Cloud storage
Multicloud:
• According to IDC 4Q21 Cloud Pulse Survey, 61% of companies saying
they believe multi-cloud brings better ROI (compared to single (39%)).
• SV4PC can provide consistency between multiple clouds, a pain point cited
by customers who are struggling to manage data and security elements
between different cloud providers.
Use Case 1: Hybrid
Cloud
Use Case 2: All In

Use Case 3: Multicloud (Hybrid or All-in Cloud)
