So Long And Goodnight. Ryan
So Long and Goodnight Ryan opened up his email, his heart pounding and his palms sweaty. Please let it be there, please let it be there, he
repeated over and over in his brain. His eyes scanned through all of the unopened emails searching for one that would tell him that he had made it.
The one that would let him know that all of his hard work had paid off. Finally, he saw something. "Ryan Mallory," it read. "Congratulations..."
Ryan let out a small squeak. His eyes scanned over the paper. Once he saw what he wanted to see, he leapt out of his chair. Who should he tell
first? He sprinted downstairs, almost falling twice. He skidded across the hardwood floors to where his mom was grading papers on her couch.
"Mom! Guess what!" He smiled, trying to play it cool. "Yeah?" She said, looking up from her students ' quizzes. "I made it." Ryan grinned. "You
made it?" Ryan 's mom leapt up. "Oh Ryan, sweetie, that 's amazing!" She pulled Ryan into a hug. "I 'm so proud of you, honey!" Ryan smiled
"Thanks mom. I 'm gonna go tell Beth now." "Alright, sweetie." "See you later, mom!" Ryan couldn 't stop grinning. He wanted to shout out the
news to the world. "Bye, honey!" Ryan 's mom smiled. "Beth!" Ryan yelled, as he let himself in through the front door of his best friend 's house.
"Oh hi, honey!" Beth 's mom smiled. "Beth 's not home yet. Come and have a snack." "Thanks!" Ryan smiled. He walked into the kitchen and
grabbed a cookie. "Is that Ryan?" Beth 's dad 's booming voice

Goodnight Moon Research Paper
Literature has always been a close personal friend. I've always been surrounded and engrossed with books. One of the first books I ever read was
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. I must've read that book a thousand times when I was little. When I was in preschool my friend and I
comically read along to the book. I credit most of my ability to read early on to my elementary's school librarian. I remember vividly in kindergarten
our librarian teacher holding a book in her hand showing off the pictures. I was completely enthralled, more so than probably other children in the
class. As time went on and I passed from grade to grade, I started to read books from the school's library. Most books I read were about tornadoes. I've
always been fascinated with how...show more content...
I had a very fortuitous encounter. One day I was at the bookstore in the young adult section and a cover picture of a girl in a black dress crying caught
my eye. The book was called Fallen by Lauren Kate, a romantic gothic themed story about fallen angels. It was the first novel I was not forced to read
that I liked and finished. Ever since then I have been a zealous book reader and collector. I used to read about 100 pages an hour and about 3 or 5
books a week, give or take. On those days, I seldom came out of my room because I was so wrapped up in what I was reading. Books became a way
for to connect to the outside world, especially because I was an isolated person, and to explore other places and worlds I'd never been to. It was a
truly an amazing moment in my life. Eventually, I began to write stories of my

How Does Willie Beech Change In Goodnight Mr Tom
Goodnight Mister Tom Character Essay: Willie Beech Love and support is the key to change and recovery. During the Second World War the
main character in Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian, William 'Willie' Beech is sent to live with Mister Tom Oakley in Little
Weirwold, as it was not safe to stay in London. 8 year old, Willie significantly changes from being a scared, shy, abused and lonely boy, to being
happy, safe and cared for as the book progresses. Through this character change, the author helps us to understand how important a safe and
comfortable home and stable friendships are to deal with hard times. When we are first introduced to Willie Beech, he is shown to be thin with limp
sandy hair and dull grey eyes, and incredibly polite and shy. He has also been physically abused by his mother and is terrified of Mister Tom, "Tom
came towards him, took the branch firmly from his hand and lifted it up. Willie...show more content...

was as if he had said good–bye to an old part of himself. Neither was he two separate people. He was Will inside and out.' This quote is important
because Willie finally accepts that he is no longer Willie, a weak, shy boy who was raised by an abusive mother, but he is Will, a stronger more
cared for boy, who has friends and is loved by many people. Willie going back to London is a huge turning point because he finally realises that his
mother had not been kind to him and had not been treating him as a mother should. He realises that he is no longer tied down by his mother and that
he is loved and cared for by

Informative Speech #2
Saddleback College
TOPIC:Cheating in Relationships
GENERAL PURPOSE:To answer common inquiries about cheating
SPECIFIC PURPOSE:To arm individuals with insight and knowledge as to why people cheat and what one can do to lessen the chances of cheating
occurring in a relationship
THESIS:The more one is aware of the prevalence of cheating and how it occurs, the better preventive steps one can take toward creating a more secure
relationship, and a better relationship in general.

a) And all these factors don't mean that some one is going to cheat.
TRANSITION:But we might explore the most complex of these issues: relationship satisfaction (something you might change).
II. Relationship satisfaction is a component of commitment.
A. According to the 1999 article "An Investment Model Prediction of Dating Infidelity" from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, a central
force within relationships is commitment.
1. Commitment consists of three elements working together: satisfaction, alternative quality, and investments.
a) Satisfaction represents the outcomes one receives from the relationship.
b) Alternative quality represents the outcomes one would expect from the next best alternative (e.g. dating a particular other, dating more than one
person).
c) Investments represents the things one would lose, both tangible and intangible, if the relationship were to end (e.g. shared possessions, shared
traditions).

Psychiatrist – That's totally fine, come and sit down so what do you want to chat about? (Approaching personality / despite Larsen's poor attitude still

Larsen – That stupid company Raecorp decided to fire me after my two hard years of work. (Angry tone)
Psychiatrist – Ohh tell me more about where you worked and were you acknowledged for what you did?
Larsen – I was one of the best research scientists in the company and was working on a huge project, for which I was put into a lot of pressure by
my stupid idiot boss. He would have not even acknowledged my work and kept piling up more and more work for me and setting up some stupid
deadlines that were impossible to reach. (Loud angry tone and hint of complaining, sits up and uses hand gestures to reflect anger)
Psychiatrist – Did that make you angry or was it tough to handle the situations? (Curious tone, his hand on the chin)
Larsen – Yea I could handle the pressure quite desirably but you know I am a human too I need a break as well. Sometimes I was busy that I couldn't

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Comparing Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night and After a Time
Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" and Catherine Davis' "After a Time" demand comparison: Davis' poem was written in
deliberate response to Thomas'. Davis assumes the reader's familiarity with "Do Not Go Gentle," which she uses to articulate her contrasting ideas.
"After a Time," although it is a literary work in its own right, might even be thought of as serious parody––perhaps the greatest compliment one writer
can pay another.
"Do Not Go Gentle in That Good Night" was written by a young man of thirty–eight who addresses it to his old and ailing father. It is interesting to
note that the author himself had...show more content...
"Wise men" desire immortality. They rage against death occurring before they've made their mark on history. "Good men" lament the frailty of their
deeds. Given more time, they might have accomplished great things. "Wild men" regret their constant hedonistic pursuits. With more time they could
prove their worth. "Grave men" are quite the opposite and regret they never took time for the pleasures in life. Now it is too late. They rage against
death because they are not ready for it.
His father's death is painful to Thomas because he sees himself lying in that bed; his father's dying reminds him of his own inevitable death. The
passion of the last stanza, in which the poet asks his father to bless and curse him, suggests that he has doubts about his relationship with his father.
He may feel that he has not been enough of a son. He put off doing things with and for his father because he always felt there would be time later.
now time has run out and feels cheated. He's raging for his father now. He'll rage for himself later.
Catherine Davis advocates a calm submission, a peaceful acquiescence. She feels raging is useless and says that those of us who rage will finally "go
tame/When what we have we can no longer use." When she says "One more thing lost is one thing less to lose," the reader can understand and come to
terms with the loss of different aspects of the mind and body, such as strength,

Essay on Good Night and Good Luck
In Good Night and Good Luck, director George Clooney follows the conflict between outspoken television journalist Edward R. Murrow and
anti–communist Senator Joseph McCarthy during the hard times of the Red Scare. Murrow uses his television show to expose McCarthy's fallacious
arguments, while providing his own opinion on the matter. He begins by defending former Air Force pilot Milo Radulovich as not being the
Communist agent McCarthy charges him to be. Due to his radical messages against McCarthy, advertisers begin pulling their advertisements. Thus
Good Night and Good Luck was placed at an undesired time slot on Sunday afternoons, and allotted five last episodes. The conflict between Murrow
and McCarthy is so deep that due to his...show more content...
The only variable evidence that McCarthy possesses for this claim is the knowledge that Murrow has been a member of the leftist union Industrial
Workers of the World, which Murrow denies. (Clooney) This meager piece of evidence lacks enough substance to make a bold claim labeling a
pioneering journalist such as Murrow into Communism territory. Though he may have been a member of this union, accusing Murrow of being a
Communist solely due to his membership is very narrow–minded. The fact of the matter is that McCarthy continuously fails to attest genuine
testimony as to why he makes accusations again and again. Even though he may seem outspoken in his approach, Murrow proves a valid point as he
reveals the error in McCarthy's thinking as he falsely accuses Radulovich of being a Communist. Due to lack of solid evidence, McCarthy has no
stance while accusing Radulovich. Though his sister's political leanings suggest Communism, Radulovich can only speak for himself and not his sister.
(Clooney) Labeling Radulovich a communist, solely based on his family's alliances is synonymous with claiming that Murrow is a Communist due to
his membership in a leftist union. It seems like McCarthy is on a "witch–hunt" of sorts, out to call out anyone who goes against the government or
spoke ill of government practices. McCarthy orders the interrogation of Pentagon communication worker Annie Lee Moss, solely based on her name
appearing on a blacklist.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight by Dylan Thomas
Touching humans the most is the acceptance of unstoppable death. We all know that death will be our fate some day, but how we accept or how we
deal with it is left to each individual. "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," written by Dylan Thomas, emphasizes raging against death towards his
dying father as he repeats this exhortation in the last line in every stanza. Imagery, sound, metrics, and tone, are used by Thomas to create the theme
of his poem and what it means. Here is how the imagery of the poem develops the meaning of the poem. First of all, Thomas convey resistance towards
death with images of fury and fighting, as in "do not go gentle." With images of "good...show more content...
Thomas provokes these men into wanting more time and desiring the courage to fight back against the Grim Reaper. The "wise men" and the
"wild men," regardless of character, deserves the opportunity to live into old age and accomplish what they set out to do. And the "wise men,"
who regret the fact that they didn't do the good deeds they were set out to do, and realizing that it was too late for them to do it. Thomas realizes it
is human nature to take life for granted; until death approaches. Thomas wrote this poem for his father, to tell him that there is so much more for
him here, living, to do. The only way to deter death is through fury and frenzy. Death comes too quickly for most people and only with "rage" can
death be defied. Here is a discussion of how the sound and metrics of the poem help convey that meaning. In the face of strong emotion, the poet sets
himself the task of mastering it in difficult form of villanelle. Five tercets are followed by a quatrain, with the first and last line of stanza repeated
alternately as the last line of the subsequent stanzas and gathered into a couplet at the end of the quatrain. And all this on only two rhymes. His
villanelle repeates the theme of living and fury through the most forceful two lines, "do not go gentle into that good night," and "rage, rage against the
dying of the light." Thomas further compounds his difficulty by having each line

Goodnight Mr Tom Identity
Goodnight Mister Tom (1981), is a novel by Michelle Magorian. It follows the story of a boy named Willie, who is evacuated from London to his
new home of Little Weirworld. He lives with a misanthropic old man named Thoman Oakely, here Mr. Tom takes in the role of a supporting father
figure and helps him grow and develop from the state his abusive mother left him in. Within the text, Magorian presents the key idea that changes in a
person's identity, positive or negative, are complex, fluid and crucial to their very character. This is explored further with the ideas such as; conflict
shapes a person's identity; that all identity change a occur for a reason; and that a person's surroundings can bring change about in their identity.

During the book, characters such as Mister Tom change dramatically, we are shown through their speech and actions that they change in order to
fulfil a purpose. At the beginning of the story, Mister Tom, a misanthropic old man, has a shy young boy, Will, put under his care. Placed in a new
and alien situation, he has to reciprocate, as he develops compassion and learns to care for Will as well as taking on new roles and becoming more
open. Magorian uses characterisation to display to the reader Tom's progression, with points that are taken from different stages of the book such
as "Eat up, I ain't got all day.", " and '"I love you too, boy," he (Mister Tom) grunted.', this shows immense change which allows him to care for his
emotional needs. This is as his diction and tone have changed from harsh, rude and demanding, to caring and loving. That clearly shows that his
identity has changed in order to care for Willie. Very early on we are shown he doesn't accept the inevitability of war and refuses to buy a gas mask,
however, soon after Willie arrives he purchases two gas masks in order to protect the boy, his actions and morals being clearly shaped from very
anti–war to cautious in order to provide for Willie. He later even volunteers for a role in protecting the town from fires,

"Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight" is a poem by Dylan Thomas. This poem is about fighting against death. Many people die everyday with a
sense of defeat. They reach a point in their lives were they feel it is useless to fight against a force that is destined to claim them. The strength of their
youth disappears leaving them weak. Those who accept death too early die spiritually before they die physically. They grieve a loss that is yet to
come. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" demonstrates perfectly the attitude Dylan Thomas felt his father should have had against his death.

The Stone Angel and Samuel Taylor Coleridge
The Ancient Mariner is at a wedding and starts to tell a story to the Wedding Guest. The Mariner was in a ship sailing towards the south pole. All of
a sudden the ship was driven by a storm. It started to snow and the ship appeared to be in an ice land where no living thing was found. Out of the
fog an Albatross (a sea bird) came and was received with great joy and hospitality by the ship mates. It was a sign of life. The ice split and the boat
sailed off. The bird followed them day and night until the Ancient Mariner killed it. The ship mates were angry that the Mariner killed the bird
because they thought it was good luck. The Mariner justified the murder by saying it was not good luck and that the bird was the one who brought
the fog. The fog cleared and the men agreed with the Mariner therefore making them accomplices to the crime. The boat sailed into the Pacific
Ocean and all of a sudden the breeze dropped and everything grew silent and still. The Albatross began to avenge; its spirit had followed them. The
ship mates put all the blame on the Mariner and for a punishment they hung the dead bird around the Mariner's neck. The Ancient Mariner saw a sign
afar. As it neared he thought it was a ship, but to his dismay he realized that it couldn't be because it was sailing in a straight line (it wasn't tacking). It
approached and the image was now a skeleton of a ship with

Chapter 2, "Little Weirwold" Summary This chapter begins with Mr. Tom continuing to explain the dog to Willie. The old man shows the boy
how to make friends with the dog and how to help gain its trust. Mr. Tom begins the day by handing Willie a mug of hot, sweet tea, a preview of
the many kindnesses that the old man will show to Willie, as a father to son would do. Willie gives up his fear of the dog and allows it to lick his
hand, learning that the licking means the dog likes him. On the way out the door to have a "romp in the fields," Willie learns that the attic room will
be his own. This first walk proves to be too much for the boy, who is weak and undernourished...... Chapter 3, "Saturday Morning" Summary The first

Changes In Goodnight Mr Tom
"Goodnight Mr Tom" directed by Jack Gold explores the changes William undertakes as the film unfolds. William changes from being an anxious,
hesitant boy to a person who is happy, confident. Through the use of camera work, sound editing, and dialogue, the director has help develop the
understanding of William's changes not only through dialogue but also through visual effects. When William is first sighted in the film, he is
distinguished an anxious person. This can be seen in the fireside scene where William is noticed with Mr Tom near the fireplace. After being pointed
at with a hot, glowing poker, has used reaction shots on numerous occasions of William which are all on a slight high angle compared to the poker
which is on a lower angle to resemble its dominance. The reaction shots, accompanied by dark, intense music, convey the anxiousness of William. This
sense of fear slowly changes throughout the film into a sense of cheerfulness. This can be...show more content...
Near the middle of the film, William is portrayed as a boy who is confined to a restricted environment of his mother's beliefs. An example of this is
when William learned how to write his name. Mr Tom told him to copy it down again for practice but instead William hesitates and asks, "won't
you go to hell?" This is an example of William living a past controlled life where William lives off his mother's beliefs and assumptions. This mood
from William has changed in the film and William gradually builds up his confidence. An example of this is shown in the London home scene.
Where the director has used to dialogue to convey the idea William's confidence. This idea is presented when William constantly bombards his
mother with enquiries and questioning her beliefs. "Isn't Jesus a Jew?" "Wine is good for you mum." The diction used and the tone in which the
speech is said informs the audience for his confidence in standing up to argue his side of the

Theme Of Goodnight Mist Tom
Introduction
William Beech is the protagonist, the main character, in the plot of Michelle Magorian's Goodnight Mister Tom. A plot is the course of action in a
literary work. He is evacuated from London during the merge of World War II to a little village, Little Weirwold, at the country side north of the city.
As he arrives he is just an unloved, shy, uncared for and abused 8 year old boy. Butas time goes by in Little Weirwold, William transforms into a
self–confident, happy boy.
As community is an important theme of the book, one could trace that the two contrasting settings influence Will's development. A theme is the
underlying interpretation of the literary work.
In this essay I will argue that the contrasting communities in London...show more content...

The comradiere community of Little Weirwold enhances Will's development.
He is continuously involved in the community. In several passages throughout the book, it is stated that Will is developing as he lives in Little
Weirwold, mainly because of the camaraderie – the mutual trust and friendship within the community.
The whole community is "taking one for the team" as many of the residents take in evacuees. Everyone knows about everyone as it is a close and
small community. Everyone tries to help everyone, the citizens are supportive and assist Tom in helping William to settle down in Little Weirwold.
They are being welcoming to the evacuees.
When they were welcoming the evacuees into Little Weirwold, the children invited Will to a picnic. "When everyone was reasonably settled, Mr.
Peters stood in front of the congregation and clasped his hands. "Good morning," he began. "Now I know we have several denominations gathered
here today, especially amongst our new visitors, who I hope will be happy and safe inside our homes. If any one of you is troubled or needs help,
please don't hesitate to contact me or my wife." P

Children look up to parents as their role models and influencers, however sometimes they do not fulfill these roles. Goodnight Mister Tom is a novel
set in England in 1939 at the start of World War 2. The author, Michelle Magorian, tells a story through this world event about a young child who is
evacuated to the country at the anticipation of the war. The child, William Beech, is sent away by his abusive mother in London to the small country

The baby was described as 'smelly' and she had tape on her mouth to stop her from 'trying to get attention' as Mrs Beech claimed that the baby also
needed to learn discipline. She also has a warped view of Will and the kind of person he is, shown when he brings home gifts from Little Weirwold
and she accuses him of begging for it or stealing it. She also accuses Will of being 'full of sin' although it is obvious that he is polite and kind to
others. When Will came back from the country healthier and more confident than she remembered, she believed that she had to 'silence him into
obedience' and was scared that he had 'threatened her authority'. We can see that she is very insecure about her role in society and as a mother. Mrs
Beech is a bad parent is clearly unfit for bringing up children.
Tom Oakley is a kind man who cares for and loves Will and is a positiverole model for him. He is 'a healthy, strong old man' who lives in the country
town of Little Weirwold. The description of Tom's physical appearance already tells us that he can take care of himself and is probably more reliable as
a parent figure. William Beech ends up being placed in his care when he is evacuated from London. Tom lives in a graveyard near a church, and is only
asked to care for Will because of this. It is revealed that Tom lives where he does because his dead wife and child are buried there and he has a hard
time letting go of them. Ironically, his child was also called William. Mr Tom

Goodnight Moon By Margaret Wise Brown
The author of my book is Margaret Wise Brown. She wrote the book Goodnight Moon. This book was published September 3, 1947 about two years
after World War Two ended. After World War Two many wives were widowed and many children were fatherless. The book Goodnight Moon was
labeled as Contemporary Realistic Fiction, meaning it was believable and set in the modern world. Margaret Wise Brown constantly experimented
with writing children 's literature. She tried new things that many other authors did not try. For example, she tried making her books more
relatable and more like a child was living in a fantasy. What kept her motivated was trying to keep her target audience of children hoping and to
never give up on that hope, in her own words she says "to write a book simple enough ... to lift the child for a few moments from his own problems
of shoelaces that won 't tie and busy parents ... into the timeless world of story." which is believed to be her motivator. While looking for the deeper
meaning or message I realized this books message was death and the loss or absence of a parent.
The book Goodnight Moon takes both children and adults away from the real world. This helps the readers understand her style of writing and
children 's literature. Goodnight Moon had a huge social impact because of how it connected with its readers. It took kids and adults away from their
problems and took them to a world where everything seemed as if it was perfect. The idea of a perfect world seems

Child Abuse In 'Goodnight Mr. Tom'
"Goodnight Mr Tom directed by Jack Gold explores the idea of a 10–year–old boy named William who has been sent to the countryside to be looked

Through the use of camera work, sound editing, and composition, Gold informs us of the effect of mistreating children and promotes understanding of
the requirements of love and care to raise a child.

Jim Goodnight Essay
It is amazing how many companies out there struggle with the simplest of things with understanding the value of their employees. Engaged employees
are critical to the success and growth of any company. Having read and watched several articles about some trend setting companies, I already see
ideas and attributes to take back to my management career.
First, SAS has demonstrated that by keeping the employee's happy and healthy, it will increase production. The CEO, Jim Goodnight has set out to
do so by creating an environment where his employees are free from stress or pain. He focuses more on the overall health and welfare of his

Deferred tax is an accounting concept, meaning a future tax liability or asset, resulting from temporary differences between book (accounting) value of
assets and liabilities and their tax value, or differences between the recognition of gains and losses in financial statements and their recognition in a tax
computation (FASB). Deferred tax is important in understanding the financial situation of a company's operation because it provides a more accurate
calculation of accrual earnings and accurate measure of the equity position, and moderates earning by increasing the tax liability in good years and
decreasing the tax liability in bad years (Todd A. Doehring). Generally, deferred tax could be deferred tax assets or deferred tax liability

A deferred tax liability records the fact that the company will in the future pay more income tax because of a transaction that took place during the
current period, such as an installment sale receivable. Because there are differences between what a company can deduct for tax and accounting
purposes, there will be a difference between a company's taxable income and income before tax (FASB)
The temporary differences are the differences between the carrying amount of an asset and liability and its tax base. Two types of temporary
differences can arise taxable temporary difference and deductible temporary difference. The taxable temporary difference results in the payment
of taxes when the carrying amount of a liability is settled or the carrying amount of an asset is recovered. Taxable temporary differences give rise
to deferred tax liabilities. A deferred tax liability arises if the carrying value of an asset is greater than its tax base or if the carrying value of a liability
is less than its tax base. Deductible temporary differences result in amounts being deductible when determining the taxable profit or loss in the
future period when assets or liabilities are recovered or settled. Deductible temporary differences give rise to deferred tax assets. A deferred tax assets
arises if the carrying value of an asset is less than its tax base or if the carrying value of a liability is greater than its tax

So Long And Goodnight. Ryan

  • 1. So Long And Goodnight. Ryan So Long and Goodnight Ryan opened up his email, his heart pounding and his palms sweaty. Please let it be there, please let it be there, he repeated over and over in his brain. His eyes scanned through all of the unopened emails searching for one that would tell him that he had made it. The one that would let him know that all of his hard work had paid off. Finally, he saw something. "Ryan Mallory," it read. "Congratulations..." Ryan let out a small squeak. His eyes scanned over the paper. Once he saw what he wanted to see, he leapt out of his chair. Who should he tell first? He sprinted downstairs, almost falling twice. He skidded across the hardwood floors to where his mom was grading papers on her couch. "Mom! Guess what!" He smiled, trying to play it cool. "Yeah?" She said, looking up from her students ' quizzes. "I made it." Ryan grinned. "You made it?" Ryan 's mom leapt up. "Oh Ryan, sweetie, that 's amazing!" She pulled Ryan into a hug. "I 'm so proud of you, honey!" Ryan smiled "Thanks mom. I 'm gonna go tell Beth now." "Alright, sweetie." "See you later, mom!" Ryan couldn 't stop grinning. He wanted to shout out the news to the world. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cookie. "Is that Ryan?" Beth 's dad 's booming voice Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Goodnight Moon Research Paper Literature has always been a close personal friend. I've always been surrounded and engrossed with books. One of the first books I ever read was Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. I must've read that book a thousand times when I was little. When I was in preschool my friend and I comically read along to the book. I credit most of my ability to read early on to my elementary's school librarian. I remember vividly in kindergarten our librarian teacher holding a book in her hand showing off the pictures. I was completely enthralled, more so than probably other children in the class. As time went on and I passed from grade to grade, I started to read books from the school's library. Most books I read were about tornadoes. I've always been fascinated with how...show more content... I had a very fortuitous encounter. One day I was at the bookstore in the young adult section and a cover picture of a girl in a black dress crying caught my eye. The book was called Fallen by Lauren Kate, a romantic gothic themed story about fallen angels. It was the first novel I was not forced to read that I liked and finished. Ever since then I have been a zealous book reader and collector. I used to read about 100 pages an hour and about 3 or 5 books a week, give or take. On those days, I seldom came out of my room because I was so wrapped up in what I was reading. Books became a way for to connect to the outside world, especially because I was an isolated person, and to explore other places and worlds I'd never been to. It was a truly an amazing moment in my life. Eventually, I began to write stories of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. How Does Willie Beech Change In Goodnight Mr Tom Goodnight Mister Tom Character Essay: Willie Beech Love and support is the key to change and recovery. During the Second World War the main character in Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian, William 'Willie' Beech is sent to live with Mister Tom Oakley in Little Weirwold, as it was not safe to stay in London. 8 year old, Willie significantly changes from being a scared, shy, abused and lonely boy, to being happy, safe and cared for as the book progresses. Through this character change, the author helps us to understand how important a safe and comfortable home and stable friendships are to deal with hard times. When we are first introduced to Willie Beech, he is shown to be thin with limp sandy hair and dull grey eyes, and incredibly polite and shy. He has also been physically abused by his mother and is terrified of Mister Tom, "Tom came towards him, took the branch firmly from his hand and lifted it up. Willie...show more content... They were presents." "You begged." "No, I never." "Don't argue. I said you begged."' She then locks Willie under the stairs, without his boots, jersey and shorts, and sews his vest to his underpants. 'He felt as though he was a different person lying there in the dark. He was no longer Willie. It was as if he had said good–bye to an old part of himself. Neither was he two separate people. He was Will inside and out.' This quote is important because Willie finally accepts that he is no longer Willie, a weak, shy boy who was raised by an abusive mother, but he is Will, a stronger more cared for boy, who has friends and is loved by many people. Willie going back to London is a huge turning point because he finally realises that his mother had not been kind to him and had not been treating him as a mother should. He realises that he is no longer tied down by his mother and that he is loved and cared for by Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to the 1999 article "An Investment Model Prediction of Dating Infidelity" from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, a central force within relationships is commitment. 1. Commitment consists of three elements working together: satisfaction, alternative quality, and investments. a) Satisfaction represents the outcomes one receives from the relationship. b) Alternative quality represents the outcomes one would expect from the next best alternative (e.g. dating a particular other, dating more than one person). c) Investments represents the things one would lose, both tangible and intangible, if the relationship were to end (e.g. shared possessions, shared traditions). d) Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Comparing Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night and After a Time Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" and Catherine Davis' "After a Time" demand comparison: Davis' poem was written in deliberate response to Thomas'. Davis assumes the reader's familiarity with "Do Not Go Gentle," which she uses to articulate her contrasting ideas. "After a Time," although it is a literary work in its own right, might even be thought of as serious parody––perhaps the greatest compliment one writer can pay another. "Do Not Go Gentle in That Good Night" was written by a young man of thirty–eight who addresses it to his old and ailing father. It is interesting to note that the author himself had...show more content... "Wise men" desire immortality. They rage against death occurring before they've made their mark on history. "Good men" lament the frailty of their deeds. Given more time, they might have accomplished great things. "Wild men" regret their constant hedonistic pursuits. With more time they could prove their worth. "Grave men" are quite the opposite and regret they never took time for the pleasures in life. Now it is too late. They rage against death because they are not ready for it. His father's death is painful to Thomas because he sees himself lying in that bed; his father's dying reminds him of his own inevitable death. The passion of the last stanza, in which the poet asks his father to bless and curse him, suggests that he has doubts about his relationship with his father. He may feel that he has not been enough of a son. He put off doing things with and for his father because he always felt there would be time later. now time has run out and feels cheated. He's raging for his father now. He'll rage for himself later. Catherine Davis advocates a calm submission, a peaceful acquiescence. She feels raging is useless and says that those of us who rage will finally "go tame/When what we have we can no longer use." When she says "One more thing lost is one thing less to lose," the reader can understand and come to terms with the loss of different aspects of the mind and body, such as strength,

  • 10. Essay on Good Night and Good Luck In Good Night and Good Luck, director George Clooney follows the conflict between outspoken television journalist Edward R. Murrow and anti–communist Senator Joseph McCarthy during the hard times of the Red Scare. Murrow uses his television show to expose McCarthy's fallacious arguments, while providing his own opinion on the matter. He begins by defending former Air Force pilot Milo Radulovich as not being the Communist agent McCarthy charges him to be. Due to his radical messages against McCarthy, advertisers begin pulling their advertisements. Thus Good Night and Good Luck was placed at an undesired time slot on Sunday afternoons, and allotted five last episodes. The conflict between Murrow and McCarthy is so deep that due to his...show more content... The only variable evidence that McCarthy possesses for this claim is the knowledge that Murrow has been a member of the leftist union Industrial Workers of the World, which Murrow denies. (Clooney) This meager piece of evidence lacks enough substance to make a bold claim labeling a pioneering journalist such as Murrow into Communism territory. Though he may have been a member of this union, accusing Murrow of being a Communist solely due to his membership is very narrow–minded. The fact of the matter is that McCarthy continuously fails to attest genuine testimony as to why he makes accusations again and again. Even though he may seem outspoken in his approach, Murrow proves a valid point as he reveals the error in McCarthy's thinking as he falsely accuses Radulovich of being a Communist. Due to lack of solid evidence, McCarthy has no stance while accusing Radulovich. Though his sister's political leanings suggest Communism, Radulovich can only speak for himself and not his sister. (Clooney) Labeling Radulovich a communist, solely based on his family's alliances is synonymous with claiming that Murrow is a Communist due to his membership in a leftist union. It seems like McCarthy is on a "witch–hunt" of sorts, out to call out anyone who goes against the government or spoke ill of government practices. McCarthy orders the interrogation of Pentagon communication worker Annie Lee Moss, solely based on her name appearing on a blacklist. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight by Dylan Thomas Touching humans the most is the acceptance of unstoppable death. We all know that death will be our fate some day, but how we accept or how we deal with it is left to each individual. "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," written by Dylan Thomas, emphasizes raging against death towards his dying father as he repeats this exhortation in the last line in every stanza. Imagery, sound, metrics, and tone, are used by Thomas to create the theme of his poem and what it means. Here is how the imagery of the poem develops the meaning of the poem. First of all, Thomas convey resistance towards death with images of fury and fighting, as in "do not go gentle." With images of "good...show more content... Thomas provokes these men into wanting more time and desiring the courage to fight back against the Grim Reaper. The "wise men" and the "wild men," regardless of character, deserves the opportunity to live into old age and accomplish what they set out to do. And the "wise men," who regret the fact that they didn't do the good deeds they were set out to do, and realizing that it was too late for them to do it. Thomas realizes it is human nature to take life for granted; until death approaches. Thomas wrote this poem for his father, to tell him that there is so much more for him here, living, to do. The only way to deter death is through fury and frenzy. Death comes too quickly for most people and only with "rage" can death be defied. Here is a discussion of how the sound and metrics of the poem help convey that meaning. In the face of strong emotion, the poet sets himself the task of mastering it in difficult form of villanelle. Five tercets are followed by a quatrain, with the first and last line of stanza repeated alternately as the last line of the subsequent stanzas and gathered into a couplet at the end of the quatrain. And all this on only two rhymes. His villanelle repeates the theme of living and fury through the most forceful two lines, "do not go gentle into that good night," and "rage, rage against the dying of the light." Thomas further compounds his difficulty by having each line Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Goodnight Mr Tom Identity Goodnight Mister Tom (1981), is a novel by Michelle Magorian. It follows the story of a boy named Willie, who is evacuated from London to his new home of Little Weirworld. He lives with a misanthropic old man named Thoman Oakely, here Mr. Tom takes in the role of a supporting father figure and helps him grow and develop from the state his abusive mother left him in. Within the text, Magorian presents the key idea that changes in a person's identity, positive or negative, are complex, fluid and crucial to their very character. This is explored further with the ideas such as; conflict shapes a person's identity; that all identity change a occur for a reason; and that a person's surroundings can bring change about in their identity. During the book, characters such as Mister Tom change dramatically, we are shown through their speech and actions that they change in order to fulfil a purpose. At the beginning of the story, Mister Tom, a misanthropic old man, has a shy young boy, Will, put under his care. Placed in a new and alien situation, he has to reciprocate, as he develops compassion and learns to care for Will as well as taking on new roles and becoming more open. Magorian uses characterisation to display to the reader Tom's progression, with points that are taken from different stages of the book such as "Eat up, I ain't got all day.", " and '"I love you too, boy," he (Mister Tom) grunted.', this shows immense change which allows him to care for his emotional needs. This is as his diction and tone have changed from harsh, rude and demanding, to caring and loving. That clearly shows that his identity has changed in order to care for Willie. Very early on we are shown he doesn't accept the inevitability of war and refuses to buy a gas mask, however, soon after Willie arrives he purchases two gas masks in order to protect the boy, his actions and morals being clearly shaped from very anti–war to cautious in order to provide for Willie. He later even volunteers for a role in protecting the town from fires, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight" is a poem by Dylan Thomas. This poem is about fighting against death. Many people die everyday with a sense of defeat. They reach a point in their lives were they feel it is useless to fight against a force that is destined to claim them. The strength of their youth disappears leaving them weak. Those who accept death too early die spiritually before they die physically. They grieve a loss that is yet to come. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" demonstrates perfectly the attitude Dylan Thomas felt his father should have had against his death. "D.J. The Stone Angel and Samuel Taylor Coleridge The Ancient Mariner is at a wedding and starts to tell a story to the Wedding Guest. The Mariner was in a ship sailing towards the south pole. All of a sudden the ship was driven by a storm. It started to snow and the ship appeared to be in an ice land where no living thing was found. Out of the fog an Albatross (a sea bird) came and was received with great joy and hospitality by the ship mates. It was a sign of life. The ice split and the boat sailed off. The bird followed them day and night until the Ancient Mariner killed it. The ship mates were angry that the Mariner killed the bird because they thought it was good luck. The Mariner justified the murder by saying it was not good luck and that the bird was the one who brought the fog. The fog cleared and the men agreed with the Mariner therefore making them accomplices to the crime. The boat sailed into the Pacific Ocean and all of a sudden the breeze dropped and everything grew silent and still. The Albatross began to avenge; its spirit had followed them. The ship mates put all the blame on the Mariner and for a punishment they hung the dead bird around the Mariner's neck. The Ancient Mariner saw a sign afar. As it neared he thought it was a ship, but to his dismay he realized that it couldn't be because it was sailing in a straight line (it wasn't tacking). It approached and the image was now a skeleton of a ship with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. Changes In Goodnight Mr Tom "Goodnight Mr Tom" directed by Jack Gold explores the changes William undertakes as the film unfolds. William changes from being an anxious, hesitant boy to a person who is happy, confident. Through the use of camera work, sound editing, and dialogue, the director has help develop the understanding of William's changes not only through dialogue but also through visual effects. When William is first sighted in the film, he is distinguished an anxious person. This can be seen in the fireside scene where William is noticed with Mr Tom near the fireplace. After being pointed at with a hot, glowing poker, has used reaction shots on numerous occasions of William which are all on a slight high angle compared to the poker which is on a lower angle to resemble its dominance. The reaction shots, accompanied by dark, intense music, convey the anxiousness of William. This sense of fear slowly changes throughout the film into a sense of cheerfulness. This can be...show more content... Near the middle of the film, William is portrayed as a boy who is confined to a restricted environment of his mother's beliefs. An example of this is when William learned how to write his name. Mr Tom told him to copy it down again for practice but instead William hesitates and asks, "won't you go to hell?" This is an example of William living a past controlled life where William lives off his mother's beliefs and assumptions. This mood from William has changed in the film and William gradually builds up his confidence. An example of this is shown in the London home scene. Where the director has used to dialogue to convey the idea William's confidence. This idea is presented when William constantly bombards his mother with enquiries and questioning her beliefs. "Isn't Jesus a Jew?" "Wine is good for you mum." The diction used and the tone in which the speech is said informs the audience for his confidence in standing up to argue his side of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Theme Of Goodnight Mist Tom Introduction William Beech is the protagonist, the main character, in the plot of Michelle Magorian's Goodnight Mister Tom. A plot is the course of action in a literary work. He is evacuated from London during the merge of World War II to a little village, Little Weirwold, at the country side north of the city. As he arrives he is just an unloved, shy, uncared for and abused 8 year old boy. Butas time goes by in Little Weirwold, William transforms into a self–confident, happy boy. As community is an important theme of the book, one could trace that the two contrasting settings influence Will's development. A theme is the underlying interpretation of the literary work. In this essay I will argue that the contrasting communities in London...show more content... The historical context is that of the outbreak of World war II. The historical context is in what conditions there were at the time. (Glossary document) The comradiere community of Little Weirwold enhances Will's development. He is continuously involved in the community. In several passages throughout the book, it is stated that Will is developing as he lives in Little Weirwold, mainly because of the camaraderie – the mutual trust and friendship within the community. The whole community is "taking one for the team" as many of the residents take in evacuees. Everyone knows about everyone as it is a close and small community. "Now I know we have several denominations gathered here today, especially amongst our new visitors, who I hope will be happy and safe inside our homes. If any one of you is troubled or needs help, please don't hesitate to contact me or my wife." P Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Children look up to parents as their role models and influencers, however sometimes they do not fulfill these roles. Goodnight Mister Tom is a novel set in England in 1939 at the start of World War 2. The author, Michelle Magorian, tells a story through this world event about a young child who is evacuated to the country at the anticipation of the war. The child, William Beech, is sent away by his abusive mother in London to the small country town of Little Weirwold to live with a stranger, Tom Oakley. Magorian uses this to demonstrate the impact of the behaviour of parental figures on a growing child. This is explored through the characteristics of Mrs Beech and Mr Tom, how they are compared and contrasted and the effects of their ...show more content... The baby was described as 'smelly' and she had tape on her mouth to stop her from 'trying to get attention' as Mrs Beech claimed that the baby also needed to learn discipline. She also has a warped view of Will and the kind of person he is, shown when he brings home gifts from Little Weirwold and she accuses him of begging for it or stealing it. She also accuses Will of being 'full of sin' although it is obvious that he is polite and kind to others. When Will came back from the country healthier and more confident than she remembered, she believed that she had to 'silence him into obedience' and was scared that he had 'threatened her authority'. We can see that she is very insecure about her role in society and as a mother. Mrs Beech is a bad parent is clearly unfit for bringing up children. Tom Oakley is a kind man who cares for and loves Will and is a positiverole model for him. He is 'a healthy, strong old man' who lives in the country town of Little Weirwold. The description of Tom's physical appearance already tells us that he can take care of himself and is probably more reliable as a parent figure. William Beech ends up being placed in his care when he is evacuated from London. Tom lives in a graveyard near a church, and is only asked to care for Will because of this. It is revealed that Tom lives where he does because his dead wife and child are buried there and he has a hard time letting go of them. Ironically, his child was also called William. • 18. Goodnight Moon By Margaret Wise Brown The author of my book is Margaret Wise Brown. She wrote the book Goodnight Moon. This book was published September 3, 1947 about two years after World War Two ended. After World War Two many wives were widowed and many children were fatherless. The book Goodnight Moon was labeled as Contemporary Realistic Fiction, meaning it was believable and set in the modern world. Margaret Wise Brown constantly experimented with writing children 's literature. She tried new things that many other authors did not try. For example, she tried making her books more relatable and more like a child was living in a fantasy. What kept her motivated was trying to keep her target audience of children hoping and to never give up on that hope, in her own words she says "to write a book simple enough ... to lift the child for a few moments from his own problems of shoelaces that won 't tie and busy parents ... into the timeless world of story." which is believed to be her motivator. While looking for the deeper meaning or message I realized this books message was death and the loss or absence of a parent. The book Goodnight Moon takes both children and adults away from the real world. This helps the readers understand her style of writing and children 's literature. Goodnight Moon had a huge social impact because of how it connected with its readers. It took kids and adults away from their problems and took them to a world where everything seemed as if it was perfect. The idea of a perfect world seems Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Jim Goodnight Essay It is amazing how many companies out there struggle with the simplest of things with understanding the value of their employees. Engaged employees are critical to the success and growth of any company. Having read and watched several articles about some trend setting companies, I already see ideas and attributes to take back to my management career. First, SAS has demonstrated that by keeping the employee's happy and healthy, it will increase production. The CEO, Jim Goodnight has set out to do so by creating an environment where his employees are free from stress or pain. He focuses more on the overall health and welfare of his employees and is in tune with what it is they need to thrive. As quoted from Mr. Goodnight, "When employees...show more content... When the board of directors relieved Market Basket President Arthur T. Demoulas, nearly 20,000 employees walked out and customers quickly followed suite with a boycott. What Mr. Demoulas created within his company was a feeling of a family and a relationship of trust. Employees are not just an expense to him, but seen as a member of the team. They live and breathe it every day. As stated by Mr. Goodnight, happy employees deliver excellent customer service, which leads to happy customers. Customers return more often, they buy more, and they tell more people, which continues the natural growth of the company. The Gallup study on why employee engagement is not getting better shed some light on the awful truth in that companies are afraid to be different and move away from old trends. They kid themselves by merely changing the words around to make it sound new. Management may think this will succeed, foster a team of engaged employees but it will only foster a greater disconnect. Real change is required; you need to be able to listen to your employees. You need to be able to motivate, manage conflict, and be clear and concise with your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Mister Deferred tax is an accounting concept, meaning a future tax liability or asset, resulting from temporary differences between book (accounting) value of assets and liabilities and their tax value, or differences between the recognition of gains and losses in financial statements and their recognition in a tax computation (FASB). Deferred tax is important in understanding the financial situation of a company's operation because it provides a more accurate calculation of accrual earnings and accurate measure of the equity position, and moderates earning by increasing the tax liability in good years and decreasing the tax liability in bad years (Todd A. Doehring). Generally, deferred tax could be deferred tax assets or deferred tax liability ...show more content... A deferred tax liability records the fact that the company will in the future pay more income tax because of a transaction that took place during the current period, such as an installment sale receivable. Because there are differences between what a company can deduct for tax and accounting purposes, there will be a difference between a company's taxable income and income before tax (FASB) The temporary differences are the differences between the carrying amount of an asset and liability and its tax base. Two types of temporary differences can arise taxable temporary difference and deductible temporary difference. The taxable temporary difference results in the payment of taxes when the carrying amount of a liability is settled or the carrying amount of an asset is recovered. Taxable temporary differences give rise to deferred tax liabilities. A deferred tax liability arises if the carrying value of an asset is greater than its tax base or if the carrying value of a liability is less than its tax base. Deductible temporary differences result in amounts being deductible when determining the taxable profit or loss in the future period when assets or liabilities are recovered or settled.
