1. Procter & Gamble
Procter & Gamble Co., also known as P&G, is an
American multinational consumer goods company headquartered in
downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, founded by William
Procter and James Gamble, both from the United Kingdom. Its
products include cleaning agents, and personal care products. Prior
to the sale of Pringles to the Kellogg Company, its product line also
included foods and beverages.
In 2014, P&G recorded $83.1 billion in sales. On August 1, 2014,
P&G announced it was streamlining the company, dropping around
100 brands and concentrating on the remaining 65 brands, which
produced 95 percent of the company's profits. A.G.Lafley, the
company's chairman, president and CEO until October 31, 2015,
said the future P&G would be "a much simpler, much less complex
company of leading brands that's easier to manage and operate".
David Taylor became P&G CEO and President effective November
1, 2015.

P&Gâs purpose, to touch and improve the lives of consumers,
now and for generations to come, is a simple yet powerful thought
that guides us in everything we do - be it delivering superior brand
propositions that have helped us become one of the fastest growing
consumer goods companies in India today, or be it our sustainability
efforts that are developing communities and helping preserve the
environment.
Inspired by this purpose, we have embarked upon a long-term
journey of sustainable growth in India, with our stakeholders and
employees enabling us along the way.
More than half of India's children between ages 6 and 14 are
deprived of their right to go to school
P&Gâs signature Social Responsibility
Program âShikshaâ (education) has till date helped 280,000
underprivileged children access their right to education. Shiksha has
built & supported over 140 schools across India, in partnership with
NGOs like Round Table India (RTI)
9. 6 year-old Harshad, a student of the RTI Shiksha Sadhana School in
Pune, canât stop smiling.
He now has a beautiful school within his village and doesnât have to
walk for hours to learn English
âClimate change is no longer a doomsday prophecy, it's a realityâ
- Astrid Heiberg, Red Cross United Nations Environment
Programme
We keep environmental sustainability at the heart of operational
excellence, and are constantly making efforts to reduce our carbon
footprint. Leading the way is our plant in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh,
which produces brands like Pantene and Ariel, having achieved 40%
reduction in carbon footprint over the last 3 years
A P&G Employeeâs creation that highlights the need to protect our
planet from climate change
Adolescent girls in India are missing up to 50 days of schooling in
a year due to inadequate menstrual protection
P&Gâs âParivartanâ (transformation) program reaches over 2.5
million girls each year with timely menstrual education &
protection, that helps keep them in school
P&Gâs âParivartanâ Program and Whisper are helping girls
embrace womanhood positively by adopting the right feminine
hygiene practices, without having to abandon education
India has braved several natural disasters in the recent past, such
as the Tsunami in South India, floods in Bihar or earthquakes in
J&K and Gujarat
P&G has stepped forward in each of these calamities and helped
communities get back on their feet. Most recently we helped rebuild
the Army School in Ladakh, located in one of the most challenging
Himalayan Terrains, which was wrecked by the Flash Floods in
2010
Shiksha came to the aid of the Ladakh Scouts Childrenâs School, by
supporting the education of children orphaned by the tragedy and
helping reinstate essential infrastructure
â To halt the decline of an ecosystem, it is necessary to think like an
ecosystem â â Douglas P. Wheeler, Renowned Environmental
Lawyer
10. P&Gâs Head Office in Mumbai has reduced its annual energy
consumption by over 27% over the last 9 years, saving over 1700
gigajoules of energy. This has been possible with conscious
behavior change from the employees and technological innovations
at the facility
âWhen the well's dry, we know the worth of water" - Benjamin
Franklin, Scientist
We realize that natural resources are priceless, and are committed to
using less, as we grow more. For instance, the P&G plant in
Bhiwadi, Rajasthan saved 13.3 million liters of water last year,
enough to fill more than 5 Olympic sized pools
Disabled children are five times more likely to be out of school than
average, highlighting the need for educational facilities that cater
to their special needs
In partnership with Army Wivesâ Welfare Association (AWWA) &
Navy Wivesâ Welfare Association (NWWA), P&Gâs Shiksha
supports several such schools across India that are helping these
children realize their full potential
A teacher at the Shiksha Sankalp School for Special Children run
by NWWA, gently encourages her students to overcome their
shyness and begin their activity class
53% of our countryâs landscape does not have a primary school
today
When P&Gâs plant in Mandideep, Madhya Pradesh adopted a
neighboring village school in 2000, it had only two classrooms and
a dwindling number of girl students. Today, the school is equipped
with 15 new classrooms, 27 teachers and a strength of over 1000
students comprising of a majority of girls
15 year-old Jyoti, a student of Shiksha Shashkiya School in
Mandideep, can now dream of going to college someday. She finally
has a secondary school close to her home
âYou can take away our physical assets â our factories, our
equipment, our products â but just leave behind our people, and we
will be able to rebuild this company in a decadeâ â Richard Dupree,
former P&G Chairman
11. P&Gâs purpose is brought to life through initiatives like âBrick-by-
Brickâ, where employees constructed a wall & furniture for a
Shiksha School
Employees rolled-up their sleeves to build the much needed
boundary wall at the RTI Shiksha Sadhana School near Pune, that
helps children study in a safe environment
"I only feel angry when I see waste, when I see people throwing
away things we could use" - Mother Teresa
P&Gâs commitment towards waste management is best
demonstrated by our plant in Goa, which produces one of our
leading brands Whisper. Over the past 2 years, the plant has recycled
and reused over 4000 tons of scrap, which equates to the daily paper
& plastic waste generated by 12 times the population of a major
Indian metro.
âEnergy conservation is the foundation of energy independenceâ -
Thomas H. Allen, American Democratic Leader
Energy conservation is a priority for every P&G facility across
India, with our Gillette plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan setting new
standards. The plant saved nearly 500 gigajoules of energy over
2009 - 2011, that would be enough to serve daily energy needs of
more than 12,000 people in India
