WHAT IS CAREER GUIDANCE AND CAREER
DEVELOPMENT
Career Guidance is the process of helping people to choose a
career development in making and implementing informed
educational and occupational choices.
Career Development is a ongoing process of gaining
knowledge and improving skills that will help an individual to
establish a career plan.
WHAT ARE THE FAILURES OF CAREER
DEVELOPMENT
Today’s Generation Students are….
* Never plan for the future
* Follow the crowd only
* Choose by influence of others
* Accept the parent’s verdict(decision) by force
* Get tempted by current trends
* Jump into any career
* Lack of motivation
* Fail to discover their lives
* Live in a fantasy world
What Is Career
Career is an Occupation or a Profession , That one undertakes
for a long period of his life time & Derives monetary
benefits from it.
Example
If someone is painting pictures for a long time, But does not
expect to gain any monetary reward, that will be considered as
his hobby rather than career.
Similarly if he paints & exhibits his paintings in a gallery for
prospective buyers, Then painting will be considered as his
profession.
WHY SELECT A CAREER
*We have been created unique.
*We are born only once.
*We spend almost 40 years on our work.
*Atotal over 80,000 hr’s we work.
*Now ask your self how you will spend these 80,000 hr’s
before you die?????
What Then Do We Do????
HOW TO PLAN FOR A CAREER
1.What Do You Want To Become
◊ An Engineer
◊ A Manager
◊ A Researcher
◊ A Fashion Designer
◊ A Player
◊ A Singer
……………………………..The List Goes On
2. Know Your Self
3. Explore Opportunities
* What Information can help you to explore career
options.
*What Activities can helps you to develop your strengths.
*How can you learn more about informational Interviews,
Conferences/Workshops, Exploratory Internships, Service
Learning, Civic Honor’s to gain First Hand experience.
4. Decision Making
During this phase of the process you will:
*Firstly Identify How Much Time and Energy you are
willing to invest to make a Career Decision.
*Identify possible occupations
*Evaluate these occupations
*ExploreAlternatives
*Finally Discuss your options with family, friends and
Career Consultants….
5.Take Actions
*Taking Action is one of those things that’s easier said
than done.
*This stage is about literally being proactive with your
career plans and following through with what you have
decided on doing.
*Implement your career decisions and put your plans into
effects.

IMPORTANCE OF GATE EXAM
In recent years, some PSU’s have replaced the written exam
with the GATE exam score. Therefore it is necessary that you
appear for the GATE entrance exam whether you are
interested to do M.Tech or not. Several PSU companies give
huge importance to GATE score and would exempt the
candidate from appearing in written test if performed
extremely well in GATE.
HIGHER EDUCATION
Those candidates who are willing to do Higher studies after
B tech, they can go with…..,
1. M.Tech./M.E. (Masters of Technology/ Masters in
Engineering).
2.MS (Master in Science): M.S is Better than M tech and it
is equivalent to PhD.
3. MBA(Master of BusinessAdministration)
4. PhD. (Doctor of Philosophy)
