≠
Biosafety Level, BSL)

• Level 4
• used for the diagnosis of exotic agents
that pose a high risk of life-threatening
disease, which may be transmitted by
the aerosol route and for which there is
no vaccine or therapy
• Level 3
• applies to agents that may be
transmitted by the respiratory route
which can cause serious infection
• Level 2
• appropriate for agents that can cause
human disease, but whose potential for
transmission is limited
• Level 1
• applies to agents that do not ordinarily
cause human disease

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate

Class I cabinet (open-front air inflow cabinet)

• 2) Class II cabinet (open-front vertical air flow
cabinet)

ecommendation
• Key to all PPE
• Repeated training and practice.
• Facility should select and standardize PPE
• Provide written protocol outlining procedures for
donning and doffing of PPE
• Review and monitor procedures for donning and doffing
