Traffic jams in Dhaka are causing massive losses. Researchers at BUET estimate that 5 million work hours are wasted daily due to traffic, costing the economy Tk 370 billion per year. The average speed of public transport in Dhaka is only 5 kph, similar to walking speed. Experts recommend increasing public transport, expanding rail networks, reducing personal vehicles, and decentralizing Dhaka to curb congestion. Proper traffic management, enforcement of laws, and infrastructure improvements are needed to address the problems caused by insufficient roads, poor administration, illegal parking and unfit vehicles.
