This document discusses biliteracy and the relationship between culture and literacy. It defines biliteracy as developing literacy in two or more languages. It notes that literacy is a social practice and culture expresses social practices, so literacy and culture are interconnected. It argues that when cultures meet through language as a resource, biliteracy can help facilitate cross-cultural engagement, especially when literacy acts as a lens for understanding different cultures. References are provided on the topics of immigrant literature, funds of knowledge in households and classrooms, and thinking about technology and culture.
