• Help and assist if necessary
• Be sure that help is needed and
requested
• Don’t interfere but intervene
• Don’t guess – ask if you don’t
know
• Accept to be helped
HOW TO WORK AS A TEAM?

• Respect your Crew Chief (as any other
crew member), but don’t expect that
he/she will do your part of the group work
on the court
• Every member of the crew is expected to
fulfill his/her part of the refereeing task with
equal responsibilities
• Don’t work for your partners, work with
them!

There is a huge difference between commanding a group
and leading a team to work seamlessly

• How to anticipate (preparation)
• Teams, players, tactics and techniques
• Make a plan on how you will anticipate and
cover all the expected various situations
• Management, criteria and mechanics
• Consistency
• Respect the individual routines in the locker
room
BEFORE THE GAME

  • 5. 5 Team means a small group of people, • that has complementary skills • that has made a commitment to a common goal, performance targets and operating model • that considers itself responsible for the group’s performance DEFINITION OF A TEAM

  • 8. 8 • Each group has a unique structure and division of roles among its members • Each group has power, sense and communication structures • A good leader is able to identify different structures and to contribute to the success of the group’s members GROUP STRUCTURE
  • 9. 9 • An individual referee can achieve almost an optimal level in his performance • This does not guarantee the optimal outcome of the game TEAMWORK & REFEREEING
  • 10. 10 • Most important is the correct outcome of the game (not the referee’s individual outcome) • In addition to the individual’s top performance, how can an individual improve the team effort? • Assisting your crew members to be at their peak performance TEAM WORK & REFEREEING

  • 15. 15 • Help and assist if necessary • Be sure that help is needed and requested • Don’t interfere but intervene • Don’t guess – ask if you don’t know • Accept to be helped HOW TO WORK AS A TEAM?
  • 16. 16 • Respect your Crew Chief (as any other crew member), but don’t expect that he/she will do your part of the group work on the court • Every member of the crew is expected to fulfill his/her part of the refereeing task with equal responsibilities • Don’t work for your partners, work with them! HOW TO WORK AS A CREW?
  • 17. 17 CREW CHIEF & MANAGEMENT There is a huge difference between commanding a group and leading a team to work seamlessly
  • 18. 18 • How to anticipate (preparation) • Teams, players, tactics and techniques • Make a plan on how you will anticipate and cover all the expected various situations • Management, criteria and mechanics • Consistency • Respect the individual routines in the locker room BEFORE THE GAME
  • 19. 19 Understand how to react (techniques) • Set the tempo • Change of the tempo or tactic • Internal communication (eye contact etc…) • First un-usual action • How quickly do you recover as a crew in case of failure (yourself or your partner) • Share your feelings (time-outs, half-time) DURING THE GAME
  • 20. 20 Share and be honest • Debrief in the dressing room • Share your feelings (positive & negative) • Talk about refereeing not about the referees • Analyze the need for the improvement with concrete examples • Respect different approaches AFTER THE GAME
