E
nergy is sustainable when it “meets the
needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs”. Most definitions of renewable energy
include considerations of environmental issues
such as greenhouse gas emissions and social
and economic issues such as energy poverty.
Renewable energy sources like wind, hydropower,
solar and geothermal energy are generally more
sustainable than fossil fuels.
Solar energy is the conversion of renewable energy
from sunlight into electricity, using photovoltaic
(PV) energy directly, indirectly using concentrated
solar energy, or a combination. Concentrated solar
energy systems use lenses or mirrors and solar
tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight
on a small beam. Photovoltaic cells convert light
into electric current through the
photovoltaic effect.
Photovoltaic energy was initially used exclusively
as a source of electrical energy for small to
medium-sized applications, from the computer
powered by a single solar cell to remote homes
powered by a rooftop photovoltaic system with
no grid connection. Commercial concentrating

solar power plants were first developed in
the 1980s. Since then, as the cost of solar
electricity has dropped, grid-connected solar
photovoltaic systems have grown more or less
exponentially. Millions of gigawatt photovoltaic
plants and plants have been and are under
construction. Photovoltaic solar energy has
quickly become an affordable, low-carbon
technology.
The International Energy Agency said in 2021
that in the “Net Zero by 2050” scenario, solar
would contribute about 20% of global energy
consumption, and solar would be the largest
source of electricity in the world. China has the
largest number of solar installations. In 2020,
solar energy generated 3.5% of the world’s
electricity, up from less than 3% the previous
year. In 2020, the leveled unsubsidized
electricity cost for large-scale solar was about
$ 36 / MWh, and installation cost about a
dollar per watt of DC.
In our edition of “Top 10 Solar Energy
Startups in 2022” on the cover page, we have

How will you describe your company’s
inception story? What were the founder’s
thoughtsbehindestablishingSolarScape?
Technology has taken glass beyond merely providing
protection or offering great landscape views. Glass
facades can now generate electricity. Thanks to the
research on solar PV by Dr. Ramesh Dhere and Late
Dr. Neelkanth Dhere, along with others in the USA
and Brazil for over 40 years. They’ve now brought
the commercial application of this technology to
India under the Power Glass brand by SolarScape
Enterprises LLP, a company founded along with Mr.
Deepak and Mr. Arjun Gadre. We wanted to explore
the new application areas of Solar Panels and Bring
this innovative technology for the first time in India.
The solar industry has the potential to
expand in large spaces. How are you
creating your position in the market?
Our product is different from conventional solar
panels. And our application is also different. We are
positioningourselvesasareplacementtoconventional
glass façade; by using Power Glass for façade and
Skylight you get all the benefits of a glass and an added
but very-important benefit of Electricity Generation.
By using our technology, renewable energy and the
construction industry can go hand in hand.
We are curious to know about your
Power Glass.
Power Glass offered by SolarScape, is based on Thin
Film CdTe technology. As the thickness of the entire
solar cell is less than 5 micrometers, it is possible to
selectively laser scribe the solar cells to achieve desired
transparency. Power Glass installation is simple and
easy, similar to conventional glass façade. Apart from
power generation, other features include: customized
transparency, colour choices, reduced glare & heat,
and uniform light output.

How will SolarScape Enterprises

How does Bondre Green Energy come into
existence? What were the reasons behind
the establishment?
I am running a Tours and Travel business. Most of
the expenses incurred were on diesel & petrol fuel.
Therefore, I decided to start my own business on
renewable energy sources. I decided to start production
of CNG gas by utilizing residual society waste material
to produce electric power by using solar power sources.
By generating our own CNG gas and our electric
power, we will reduce our daily expenses and will be
able to increase our profit as well as we will reduce
carbon emission.

The Founder’s Journey
We started our journey by trading Solar Products like
panels, Inverters, Solar Water Heater, etc. Soon we
realised that, in the long-term, this business model might
not work, as there is no technical contribution from our
side. That was the turning point of our company.
We started exploring new technology-based solutions in
the Solar field, and we narrowed down our eyes to Solar
Panel Cleaning Robot as a solution in 2016. At that time,
even very few know about this solution. We collaborated
with one of BOSON Robotics Ltd (Chinese Robotic
Supplier) in 2019 for Indian/other markets. Now we
have a 1.4Gw base only in India.
Initial days were tough for this market due to awareness
and compatibility issues. However, within 2 years after
launching in India, we secured our 1st deal in 2021 of
330Mw in Rajasthan. That was the time when Corona
started in India. We thought we had to wait for longer
to get our 1st deal. But we fought confidently for that
project, and despite the Corona issue, we locked that deal
due to local presence, well trained Human Resources,
Spares availability. Gradually other clients believed in us
due to these X factors. Now, we are in the top 2 positions
in the Indian market.
Family support is always there as, without their support,
this journey cannot be complete. It takes a lot of time
during the initial days from the family time. My wife &
kids were always supportive in every decision of mine.
In this fabulous journey, without taking a name of
my friend & partner ( Mr Marc Wang ), this journey
wouldn’t be completed. He always supported us from the
beginning of our commencement and at the company
lows/highs as an Angel.

About the Team
We always believe investing in the fresh brigade as we
can mould them according to company requirements
considering their best quality. We hired raw Engineers
from my native place (Durg-Bhilai Nager) and trained
them for 1-2 years, trying to sharpen their skills &
technical capability. We also depute them in China for
special training so that once we have ordered; we can
execute & complete those projects properly. And most
importantly within time.
Now our young team is independent and handle entire
projects smoothly. Even, managing clients as well
during the operational time. They are the backbone
of the company. Without them, it’s tough to see my
company anywhere.

Energy demand
Energy has been the core of everything since human
evolution. At first, there was the wood & fire. Later
it got evolved & fossil fuels took the place of wood.
Currently, fossil fuels, also termed dirty fuels, have
been the leading source of energy & economy. Fossil
fuels command the energy to run almost everything
we see around.
But there’s always an end to everything we have. Fossil
fuels are assumed to be completely depleted in the
next two to three decades. This has created a concern
for many, as we are dependent on fossil fuels for every
economic activity. Even electricity generation largely
relies on coal.
Electricity demand is growing at a rapid pace. India
has become one of the major electricity producers
& consumers after China & the USA. The current
Indian government has a clear vision to make India
self-reliant. Importing oil creates a loophole for the
nation’s economic development. Hence, the GOI
(Government of India) has a plan to make India the
world’s largest green energy producer.
Solar energy production
We all know the sun shines the whole year, and
converting it into electricity could solve our energy
crisis. Solar Panels/Photovoltaic Cells (PV cells)
are an emerging technology for renewable energy
sources. As per the data, India has 50.78 GW of
installed capacity of solar cells.
Solar energy power generation is divided into two
main parts: Large scale plants & Small scale plants.
Large-scale power plants include Industrial &
Commercial solar power plants. This installation is
done by installing panels on the roof or setting up a

power plant near the campus.
Solar parks are gaining popularity as it increases
electricity generation. The Indian government has
an ambitious target of installing 100GW solar energy
generation to reduce dependence on coal & other
resources. The project is massive and is estimated
to need an investment of around US$ 100 billion.
Solar parks have been installed PAN India, with
the highest capacity of 2,245 MW at Bhadla Solar
Park in Rajasthan. It is the world’s largest solar park
containing 10 million solar panels spread across
14,00 acres of land.
Small-scale power plants are installed in private
houses or on rooftops. Installing PV cells on
the rooftop practically increases the chances of
generating more energy than installing panels on
the ground. The government is providing subsidies
for this installation. It helps reduce our energy
dependency on grid supply. It even helps us earn
money by generating excess energy that can be sold
to our energy provider.
What are Floating Solar Power Plants?
Floating solar plants were innovated to counter
the problem of land acquisition. Installing panels
on water helps conserve water as well as provides a
surface. Here, PV cells are installed on a platform
specially designed and manufactured to support the
weight of panels and other environmental effects.
Why Floating solar power plants?
India has the second-largest population after china.
Demographically, India’s land area stands at 7th
position. Here, the majority of the population is
engaged in farming. Acquiring land in such a complex
environment gets tough for authorities.

Energy is the need
A future without energy is not the ideal image for
a prosperous economy. The demand for electricity
consumption has shown an upsurge, and the graph

Electricity production from wind farms & solar
plants is increasing. But, now we are nearing the
limit of solar & wind farms as we are running out
of potential land that can cater to these energy
parks. Decades back, offshore wind turbines were
being tested for commercial use on the European
continent. The results were promising, which led to
the popularisation of offshore wind farms.
Energy generation
India has almost 99% of electricity coverage on its

History of floating power plants
In December 2007, Blue H technologies of the
Netherlands deployed the world’s first floating wind

80kw prototype installed 113 meters deep in water.

power plants?

Later, in September 2009, a 2.3-megawatt floating

The world’s first floating wind farm was installed off
the coast of Scotland in 2017. It reached an average
capacity factor of 57.1% in just twelve months
