LUCIOLE, a solar lantern, is the solution to the perennial problem to
the woes of the rural people. It’s made from recycled waste with an
indigenous design and unique features. The product is still at the
design building stage, but a similar product has been tried and
validated by my customer segments during my awareness
campaigns. Research is still on to add more value to the product.
Though the markets are flooded with solar lanterns imported from
china and assembled lanterns in India. By the time the lantern
reaches the end user, questions arise about the affordability
quotient, the products quality and easily available after sales
services. The potential market for the lanterns could be derived from
the Directorate of Assam, census data which mentions the total no
of unelectrified villages in upper Assam only i.e Jorhat – 72, Golaghat
– 74, Dibrugarh -6 just to name a few. Assuming that each village has
a household of around 75 – 100 household for a small village and for
a medium village about 150 – 250 households. LUCIOLE would be
assembled and marketed by WE SERVICES based in Jorhat, Assam.
Post extensive research and surveys conducted by WE, the result
oriented data brought out the exact spending capacity of a village
house hold and the affordability quotient. WE’s provides various
selling proposition to ensure consistent cash flow. The approach
would be both B to B and B to C segments. Self Help Groups and
NGO’s would be an integral part of the business plan.
