safety and our Prime Minister has highlighted the need for greater action in

offered a special slot for UWM to
conduct the Safe Rider Training sessions
for NSS student leaders during their
Annual Leadership Training Camps in
districts applicable to the project
jurisdiction (Mumbai City, Mumbai
Central, Mumbai Western, Palghar,
Thane).
A total of 447 student leaders from 228
colleges were trained in safe 2 wheeler
riding. These leaders will now help UWM
in conducting similar trainings in their
respective colleges.

Mumbai
Expected Impact: Mobilization and training of 140 “Jeevan Doots” who are
equipped and empowered to respond to the victims of road accidents. (Pilot

• Six accident prone blackspots have been shortlisted in consultation with
Mumbai Traffic Police
• UWM is carrying out thorough stakeholder mapping around these spots to
identify potential first responders
• UWM has developed a customized training module for training of first
responders with focus on road accidents

18. Slow Down & Respect the Stop Line
Ongoing Mass Awareness Campaigns to Educate Road Users
United Way Mumbai carried out a week long “Slow Down” campaign at the
toll plaza of the Bandra- Worli Sea Link bridge in collaboration with the
Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP), NSS - University of Mumbai and the Toll
Monitoring Unit of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation
200 drivers pledged to follow speed limit
One to one interactions with 300+ drivers
20000+ drivers sensitised about speed cameras installed and evils of speeding

STOP LINE
The campaign included –
- Poster making with the children from Don Bosco Shelter
- Presentation of road safety practices to the children from the Shelter
- Sensitization of motorists and individuals at the T-Junction in Matunga on the
importance of stopping before the Stop
900+ motorists sensitized about the importance of stopping before the stop
line, by over 20 volunteers comprising corporate employees and United Way
Mumbai team members with help of Sr. Traffic Police Officers from Matunga
