1. Learning Design for an Online World
Integrating Models & Frameworks
Clare Gormley & Suzanne Stone, DCU Teaching Enhancement Unit

3. What is Learning Design (LD)?
A pedagogically informed
approach to design that makes
appropriate use of technologies
(Conole, 2019)
LD is focussed on ‘what students
do’ as part of the learning rather
than the ‘teaching’ which is
focussed on the content that will
be delivered (Rienties & Toetenel,
2016)

5. Zeetings Activity 1:
Using your device (phone or PC) go to www.zeetings.com/clare and
answer the following question:
What learning design frameworks or models are
you using currently?
6. Sharing Learning Design Experiences
Let’s talk about the models and frameworks we
most frequently use...

7. Personas
Because when is it
ever a bad idea to
spend time thinking
about who your
learners really are?
See
http://www.ld-grid.org/resources/representations-and-languages/pe
rsonas for a short introduction to personas. To use this template,
open it at http://goo.gl/m1Fp6, make a copy and edit.
8. OULDI Course Features Cards
Because they can
provide a crucial
kick-start for a
conversation about
a proposed design.
See
http://jiscdesignstudio.pbworks.com/f/OULDI_Pedagogic_As
pects_v8_Release.pdf?ld=1
9. ABC Learning Design
Because it provides a
vehicle for
conversations and a
highly-structured,
proven method to
design courses quickly
in teams. (Much more
on this later!)
See
https://abc-ld.org/ for further info about ABC
10. Augmented 7Cs of Learning Design
All of the techniques
mentioned so far
feature in the
Augmented 7Cs of
Learning Design
(Conole, 2019).
