The Institute of Chartered Accountants of
India (ICAI) is the World's second
largest professional accounting body and
largest professional accounting body of India
under the ownership of Ministry of Corporate
Affairs, Government of India . It was
established on 1 July 1949 as a statutory
body under the Chartered Accountants Act,
1949 enacted by the Parliament for regulating
the profession of Chartered Accountancy in

• In India, accounting standards and auditing standards are
recommended by the National Financial Reporting Authority
(NFRA) to the Government of India which sets the
Standards on Auditing (Sas) to be followed in the audit of
financial statements in India.
• The other reputed accounting research bodies in India are
the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) and
University of Delhi, University of Calicut and University of
Mumbai.
Starting with a handful of
about 1700 members,
today, the strength of
Chartered Accountant
fraternity has grown to
over 2.35 lakh members.
On the education front,
the ICAI began with mere
259 students and today
more than 8.50 lakh
active students are a part
of ICAI.
• Chartered Accountancy is one of the most
demanding course in commerce as it can be
started right after 12th.
• Anyone who is desirous to acquire in depth
knowledge & practical exposure in Accountancy,
Income Tax, GST, Audit, Corporate Law, Finance
should definitely Enroll herself in this course.
• After completing the course -- student not only
acquires the prestigious CA Certificate but also
becomes member of the worlds second largest
accounting body - The Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India.
HOW TO BECOME A CHARTERED
ACCOUNTANT
1. A CA can then setup her own firm/business or can do
job in India or Abroad First of all any student
irrespective of her stream ( Commerce,
science,Humanities)Can become CA, After
2.
12th – Clear CA Foundation > Appear for Intermediate examination
after 8 months and Clear either 1 or both groups > Complete 3
years of practical training > Appear for CA Final examinations (after
completing 3 years of training and clearing both groups of CA
Intermediate) > Clear CA Final exams and get CA Degree. Best
part is that it can be done along with graduation – students can
pursue any graduation course and side by side appear for CA
exams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF CHARTERED
ACCOUNTANTS
Cas are the primary financial
consultants of an organisation and
their key responsibilities include:
•Designing and controlling an efficient budgetary system
of the organisation
•They determine the best ways for the effective utilisation
of business capital
•They manage and install the cost accounting system of
the organisation
•They advise from time-to-time on the financial status of the organisation
and propagate methods for effective delegation of funds and budget
•They advise the board of directors on matters about international taxation,
joint ventures, and foreign collaborations and on agreements of double
taxation
•They prepare feasibility studies on expansion schemes and new projects
by the organisation
•The CA acts as a registrar in matters about the transfer of shares and
other securities

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the World's second largest professional accounting body and largest professional accounting body of India under the ownership of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India . It was established on 1 July 1949 as a statutory body under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 enacted by the Parliament for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in INTRODUCTIO N
  • 7. • In India, accounting standards and auditing standards are recommended by the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) to the Government of India which sets the Standards on Auditing (Sas) to be followed in the audit of financial statements in India. • The other reputed accounting research bodies in India are the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) and University of Delhi, University of Calicut and University of Mumbai.
  • 8. Starting with a handful of about 1700 members, today, the strength of Chartered Accountant fraternity has grown to over 2.35 lakh members. On the education front, the ICAI began with mere 259 students and today more than 8.50 lakh active students are a part of ICAI.
