Venice, Italy | 8-10 November 2018
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
 Discuss and formulate creative and engaging ways for teaching cultural heritage and
making it appealing to primary school pupils.
 Exchange knowledge and good practices on formal and informal lessons that promote
cultural discovery and exploration.
 Find ways to incorporate and address questions of cultural heritage across the range of
primary education subjects.
 Decide on improved pedagogies that meet the needs of increasingly multicultural
classrooms.
 Formulate concrete suggestions to promote respectful intercultural dialogue among
young learners.
 Find methods for teaching science (particularly the topics of natural resources and
environmental conservation) through a culturally informed perspective.

  • 1. INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGIES IN CULTURAL HERITAGE Cultural Heritage: Cherishing the Past, Building the Future (2018-1-CY01-ΚΑ229-046852) JOINT STAFFTRAINING EVENT Venice, Italy | 8-10 November 2018
  • 2. TRAINING OBJECTIVES  Discuss and formulate creative and engaging ways for teaching cultural heritage and making it appealing to primary school pupils.  Exchange knowledge and good practices on formal and informal lessons that promote cultural discovery and exploration.  Find ways to incorporate and address questions of cultural heritage across the range of primary education subjects.  Decide on improved pedagogies that meet the needs of increasingly multicultural classrooms.  Formulate concrete suggestions to promote respectful intercultural dialogue among young learners.  Find methods for teaching science (particularly the topics of natural resources and environmental conservation) through a culturally informed perspective.

CULTURAL HERITAGE IN OUR CURRENT EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES  Do national curricula incorporate cultural heritage?  What subjects/ lessons address issues of cultural heritage the most?  Do you have specific lessons on cultural heritage? How can we incorporate cultural heritage in our lessons without having a special lesson on cultural heritage?
  • 4. THE EU DEFINITION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE  FOUR PARAMETERS  Tangible  Intangible  Digital  Natural  Do you agree with this categorization? Is everything addressed? Is anything surprising? Is anything left out? Which of these parameters do your current curricula address the most?

THE PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE DIMENSION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE  PAST – learning about, cherishing, respecting our heritage.  PRESENT –recognizing and interacting cultural heritage in our everyday lives.  FUTURE – actively contributing to the preservation and evolution of cultural heritage for the future.  Is cultural heritage something to be respected, cherished and admired from a distance OR something to be experienced and developed? How can we interact with cultural heritage in the present and develop it for the future while being respectful to the past?
  • 6. MULTICULTURALISM  What does it mean for a classroom to be multicultural?  Is your student body multicultural?  Do your lessons reflect and promote a multicultural dimension?  When addressing cultural heritage in your classrooms (for example, a lesson on traditions), do you have a national or multicultural perspective? How can multiculturalism become an integral part of our lessons?
  • 7. CULTURAL HERITAGE IN SCIENCE LESSONS  The EU emphasizes the incorporation of a culturally informed perspective in science and technology lessons.  What is a culturally informed perspective?  How can issues of environmental conservation be incorporated in your existing lesson plans?  Do your curricula include indigenous species and Natura 2000 sites? How do cultural values, beliefs, and behaviours influence the way science and technology are understood?
