“THE WAY OF THE CROSS IN OUR
LIVES”
Lent Study on Contemporary Mystics: Thomas Merton, Dag
Hammarskjöld and Etty Hillesum.
These three mystics have one thing in common, they were (journal)
writers who shared their inner journey with us, readers. Their
reflective practice helped them in the paradoxical spiritual growth
of losing oneself, in order to become a Self: The Way of the Cross.Â
Thomas Merton (1915 Prades, France - 1968, Bangkok, Thailand), was
(a converted) Catholic. A monk, prolific writer and artist. Dag
Hammarskjöld (1905 Jonkoping, Sweden - Rhodesia), was a
Protestant. Had studied Law and Economics and became the first
Secretary General of the United Nations. Etty Hillesum (1914
Middelburg, The Netherlands - 1943, Auschwitz), was a young
passionate Jewish woman who lived for literature. Living her young
adult life in Amsterdam during WWII she took up the fate of her
people.
Sylvia Grevel will be leading three reflective sessions. Chris
Wortham will be sharing his poetic insight into the journeys of
the mystics. The aim is to be inspired, and grow deeper into
our personal spiritual journey.Â

OUR KITCHEN RULES!
As directed by our Archbishop in response to the pandemic outbreak of
COVID-19 virus it is vital that addition precautions are implemented to protect
our community and users of our facilities. In particular, certain action to reflect
the Health Department Standards in regards to personal hygiene, food
handling and general kitchen cleaning is vital. It is important that all those
involved in morning tea rosters as well as other catering functions are
familiar with the requirements and ensure they are followed. This will requireÂ
some changes to how things are done. A guideline will be placed in both
kitchen areas as a reminder of the action required. Â
Joan is available to address any concerns or clarification as required.
We have been asked by our Archbishop to ensure our Church hall and kitchen
facilities are operated in accordance with 'Health Department' standards to
reduce the risks associated with spreading the corona-19 virus. To meet those
standards we will be implementing new processes related to rubbish bins, tea
towels, dishcloths, handling of mugs etc as well as the cleaning of these
facilities. The specific details of the proposed changes wll be posted on
notices in the hall and the kitchen.
EARTH HOUR
VIGIL
Earth Hour is a worldwide event
across 180 countries which
focuses attention on our use of
energy and its environmental
impact. For one hour, groups
across the world will turn off
lights, music and other electrical
equipment to sit in solidarity with
the need for conscious
consumption of energy to help
sustain the earth. At our last
Synod, the Perth Diocese
declared a Climate Emergency.
In a prayerful, symbolic response,
