The heav’nly Word, proceeding
forth yet leaving not the
Father’s side,
accomplishing his work on
earth had reached at length
life’s eventide
By false disciple to be giv’n
to foemen for his life athirst,
himself, the very bread of
heav’n,
he gave to his disciples first.
He gave himself in either
kind, he gave his flesh, he
gave his blood; in love’s own
fullness thus designed, to be,
for humankind, the food.
O saving victim, opening wide
the gate of heav’n to all
below, our foes press on from
every side; thine aid supply,
thy strength bestow.
To thy great name be endless
praise, Immortal Godhead, one
in three: O grant us endless
length of days In our true
native land with thee.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit.
All: Amen We Gather
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit be
with you all.
All: And with your spirit.
We Gather

Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy

Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy

Lord, have mercy.

The Collect
The First
Reading
A Reading from the book of
Exodus.
The Lord said to Moses and
Aaron in the land of Egypt:
‘This month is to be the
first of all the others for you,
the first month of your year.
Speak to the whole
community of Israel and say,
“On the tenth day of this
month each man must take
an animal from the flock, one
for each family: one animal
for each household. If the
household is too small to eat
the animal, a man must join
with his neighbour, the
nearest to his house, as the
number of persons requires.
You must take into account
what each can eat in deciding
the number for the animal. It
must be an animal without
blemish, a male one year old;
you may take it from either
sheep or goats. You must
keep it till the fourteenth day
of the month when the whole
assembly of the community
of Israel shall slaughter it
between the two evenings.
Some of the blood must then
be taken and put on the two
doorposts and the lintel of
the houses where it is eaten.
That night, the flesh is to be
eaten, roasted over the fire; it
must be eaten with
unleavened bread and bitter
herbs. You shall eat it hastily:
it is a Passover in honour of
the Lord. That night, I will go
through the land of Egypt and
strike down all the first-born
in the land of Egypt, man and
beast alike, and I shall deal
out punishment to all the
gods of Egypt, I am the Lord!
The blood shall serve to mark
the houses that you live in.
When I see the blood I will
pass over you and you shall
escape the destroying plague
when I strike the land of
Egypt. This day is to be a day
of remembrance for you, and
you must celebrate it as a
feast in the Lord’s honour.
For all generations you are to
declare it a day of festival, for
ever.”’
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The blessing-cup that
we bless is a
communion with the
blood of Christ.
The Psalm
How can I repay the Lord
for his goodness to me?
The cup of salvation I will raise;
I will call on the Lord’s name.
The Psalm

The Psalm
O precious in the eyes of the
Lord is the death of his
faithful.
Your servant, Lord, your servant
am I; you have loosened my
bonds. The Psalm
The blessing-cup that

blood of Christ.
The Psalm
A thanksgiving sacrifice I make;
I will call on the Lord’s name.
My vows to the Lord I will fulfil
before all his people.

Reading
A reading from the letter of St
Paul to the Corinthians.
This is what I received from
the Lord, and in turn passed
on to you: that on the same
night that he was betrayed, the
Lord Jesus took some bread,
and thanked God for it and
broke it, and he said,
‘This is my body, which is for
you; do this as a memorial of
me.’ In the same way he took
the cup after supper, and said,
‘This cup is the new covenant
in my blood. Whenever you
drink it, do this as a memorial
of me.’ Until the Lord comes,
therefore, every time you eat
this bread and drink this cup,
you are proclaiming his
death.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Praise and honour to you, Lord
Jesus!
I give you a new commandment:
love one another just as I have loved
you, says the Lord.
Praise and honour to you, Lord
Jesus!
Gospel Acclamation
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
It was before the festival of
the Passover, and Jesus
knew that the hour had come
for him to pass from this
world to the Father. He had
always loved those who were
his in the world, but now he
showed how perfect his love
was.
They were at supper, and
the devil had already put it
into the mind of Judas
Iscariot son of Simon, to
betray him. Jesus knew that
the Father had put
everything into his hands,
and that he had come from
God and was returning to
God, and he got up from
table, removed his outer
garment and, taking a towel,
wrapped it round his waist;
he then poured water into a
basin and began to wash the
disciples’ feet and to wipe
them with the towel he was
wearing.
He came to Simon Peter, who
said to him, ‘Lord, are you
going to wash my feet?’
Jesus answered,
‘At the moment you do not
know what I am doing, but
later you will understand.’
‘Never!’ said Peter ‘You shall
never wash my feet.’ Jesus
replied, ‘If I do not wash you,
you can have nothing in
common with me.’ ‘Then,
Lord,’ said Simon Peter ‘not
only my feet, but my hands
and my head as well!’ Jesus
said, ‘No one who has taken
a bath needs washing, he is
clean all over. You too are
clean, though not all of you
are.’ He knew who was going
to betray him, that was why
he said, ‘though not all of
you are.’
When he had washed their
feet and put on his clothes
again he went back to the
table. ‘Do you understand’ he
said ‘what I have done to
you? You call me Master and
Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I,
then, the Lord and Master,
have washed your feet, you
should wash each other’s
feet. I have given you an
example so that you may
copy what I have done to
you.’
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord
Jesus Christ.
Renewal of Commitment to Priesthood:
All the Priest of the Dioceses renewed
their commitment at the Chrism Mass
last Tuesday in the Cathedral.
Celebrant: On the night before
he died, Jesus sat at table with
his disciples. As we gather to
re-enact that sacred Feast, let
us pray to the Father for all
our needs.
1. Let us pray for Francis, our Pope,
Vincent, our Cardinal, and all priests
throughout the world, especially Father
Joe, our own Parish Priest, as each of
them celebrates the Eucharist on this holy
night.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
2. Let us pray for all those preparing
for Baptism or reception into the Church
at Easter, and especially those from our
own community. May they always be
faithful followers of Christ.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
3. For all of us here present today, that
this memorial of the first Eucharist
reminds us of Christ’s real Presence in
the Blessed Sacrament.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
4. For our Eucharistic Ministers,
who take the Blessed Sacrament to
those who cannot be present in
church – to the sick and the
housebound.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
5. We pray for the healing of Christ
for all those who are sick,
remembering especially those who
will be anointed by the Holy Oils
received here tonight.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
6. We pray for those who have
died, that the sacrifice of the
Eucharist may bring them to
eternal life.
Lord, hear us
All: Lord graciously hear us
7. In silence we pray for all
those who have asked for
our prayers, especially for
those mentioned in our
Intentions Book.
Tonight, recalling Mary’s
sorrow as she prayed with her
Son at the hour of his death, we
ask her to pray with us as we
say:
Hail Mary, full of grace. The
Lord is with thee. Blessed
art thou among
women, and blessed
is the fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother
of God, pray for us
sinners, now and
at the hour of our
death. Amen.
Celebrant: Father, we come before
you and present our needs to you,
humbled by the Eucharistic love of
your Son, our eternal High Priest,
who lives and reigns with you for ever
and ever.
Blest are you, Lord, God of all
creation, thanks to your
goodness this bread we offer:
fruit of the earth, work of our
hands, it will become the bread
Blessed be God! Blessed be
God! Blessed be God forever!
Amen! Blessed be God!
Blessed be God! Blessed be
God forever! Amen!
Blest are you, Lord, God of all
creation, thanks to your
goodness this wine we offer:
fruit of the earth, work of our
hands, it will become the cup
of life.
Blessed be God! Blessed be
God! Blessed be God forever!
Amen! Blessed be God!
Blessed be God! Blessed be
God forever! Amen!
Pray, my brothers and sisters,
that my sacrifice and yours may
be acceptable to God, the
almighty Father.
All: May the Lord accept the
sacrifice at your hands, for
the praise and glory of his
name, for our good, and the
good of all his holy Church.
Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that we may
participate worthily in these mysteries,
for whenever the memorial of this
sacrifice is celebrated the work of our
redemption is accomplished. Through
Christ our Lord.
All: Amen
Prayer over the offerings
The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
All: It is right and just.Preface Dialogue
Holy, holy, holy Lord God of
hosts, Heaven and earth are full
of your glory. Hosanna in the
highest. Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
When we eat this Bread
and drink this Cup, we
proclaim your death, O
Lord, until you come
again.
Memorial Acclamation
Through him, and with him, and in
him, O God, almighty Father, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and
honour is yours, for ever and ever.
All: Amen!
Our Father who
art in heaven,
hallowed be thy
name, thy
kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is
in heaven.
Give us this day our
daily bread.
And forgive us our
trespasses
as we forgive
those who trespass
against us.
And lead
us not into
temptation,
but deliver
us from
evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every
evil, graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy, we may
be always free from sin and safe from
all distress, and useless worry, as we
await the blessed hope and the coming
of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
All: For the kingdom, the
power, and the glory are
yours, now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said
to your Apostles, Peace I
leave you, my peace I give
you, look not on our sins, but
on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her
peace and unity in
accordance with your will.
Who live and reign for ever
and ever. Amen
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us offer
one another a
sign of peace
Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world: have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world: have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world: grant us peace.Fraction of the Bread
Behold the Lamb of God, behold
him who takes away the sins of
the world. Blessed are those
called to the supper of the
Lamb.
Invitation to Communion
All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under
my roof, but only say the
word and my soul shall be
healed.
Invitation to Communion
1. This is my body, broken for
you, bringing you wholeness,
making you free. Take it and
eat it, and when you do, do it in
love for me.
2. This is my blood poured out
for you, bringing forgiveness,
making you free. Take it and
drink it, and when you do, do
it in love for me.
3. Back to my Father soon I
shall go. Do not forget me;
then you will see I am still
with you, and you will know
you’re very close to me.
4. Filled with my Spirit, how
you will grow! You are my
branches; I am the tree. If you
are faithful, other will know
you are alive in me.
5. Love one another – I
have loved you, and I have
shown you how to be free;
serve one another, and
when you do, do it in love
for me.
Grant, almighty God, that, just as we are
renewed by the Supper of your Son in
this present age, so we may enjoy his
banquet for all eternity. Who lives and
reigns for ever and ever.
All: Amen
Prayer after communion
1. Pange, lingua, gloriosi
Corporis mysterium,
Sanguinisque pretiosi,
Quem in mundi pretium
Fructus ventris generosi
Rex effudit gentium.
2. Nobis datus, nobis natus
Ex intacta Virgine;
Et in mundo conversatus,
sparso verbi semine,
sui moras incolatus
miro clausit ordine.
3.In supremae nocte coenae
recumbens cum fratribus,
observata lege plene
cibis in legalibus:
cibum turbae duodenae
se dat suis manibus.
4. Verbum caro, panem verum
verbo carnem efficit:
fitque sanguis Christi merum;
et si sensus deficit,
ad firmandum cor sincerum
sola fides sufficit.
5. Tantum ergo Sacramentum
veneremur cernui:
et antiquum documentum
novo cedat ritui:
prĂŠstet fides supplementum
sensuum defectui.
6. Genitori, genitoque
laus, et jubilatio,
salus, honor, virtus quoque
sit et benedictio:
procedenti ab utroque
compare sit laudatio. Amen
When Jesus arrived at Gethsemane,
he said to his disciples:
“Stay here
While I go
Over there
And pray.”
Psalm 63
O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you; my soul
thirsts for you, my body longs
for you, in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
I have seen you in the
sanctuary
and beheld your power
and your glory.
Because your love is
better than life, my lips
will glorify you. I will
praise you as long as I
live, and in your name I
will lift up my hands.
My soul will be satisfied as
with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my
mouth will praise you.
On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the
watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of
your wings.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds
me.
Lord Jesus, you taught us to
watch and pray, lest we be
overcome by temptation.
We confidently ask you: Lord,
share with us your own spirit of
prayer.
By your prayer in the garden, you
prepared for your passion and
death;
— help us, your disciples, to be in
intimate communion with our God
in every event of our life.
In the garden, you persevered in
prayer even when distressed to the
sweating of blood;
— grant that, by prayer, we may live
with God despite distress and
sorrow.
Lord, at your Father's bidding, you
gladly drank the cup of your
passion;
— create in us a like thirst to do the
Father's will.
Sustained by your prayer, you gave
yourself up to those who seized you
unjustly;
— help us to find in prayer the
strength to be faithful in trials and
difficulties.
Lord our God,
in his agony in the garden, Jesus,
your Son, taught us by word and
example how to pray in time of trial.
Keep us always faithful to prayer,
that we may reap its rich harvest of
grace.
We ask this though our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who
lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to
everlasting life. Amen

24th march 2016 the mass of the lord's supper

  • 1.
  • 2. The heav’nly Word, proceeding forth yet leaving not the Father’s side, accomplishing his work on earth had reached at length life’s eventide
  • 3. By false disciple to be giv’n to foemen for his life athirst, himself, the very bread of heav’n, he gave to his disciples first.
  • 4. He gave himself in either kind, he gave his flesh, he gave his blood; in love’s own fullness thus designed, to be, for humankind, the food.
  • 5. O saving victim, opening wide the gate of heav’n to all below, our foes press on from every side; thine aid supply, thy strength bestow.
  • 6. To thy great name be endless praise, Immortal Godhead, one in three: O grant us endless length of days In our true native land with thee.
  • 7. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen We Gather
  • 8. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with your spirit. We Gather
  • 9.
  • 10.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy Penitential act
  • 11. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. All: Amen. Penitential act
  • 12. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 13. 1. Glory to God in the heights of the heavens. Peace to God’s people, all people on earth.
  • 14. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 15. 2. Son of the Father, all glory and worship; praise and thanksgiving to you. Lamb of God
  • 16. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 17. 3. You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us, eceive our prayer.
  • 18. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 19. 4. Seated in power at the right of the Father, Jesus alone is the Lord, the Most high.
  • 20. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 21. 5. And with the Spirit of love ever lasting, reigning in glory for ever. Amen
  • 22. Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God! Glo-ry! Glo-ry! Glo-ry to God!
  • 23. O God, who have called us to participate in this most sacred Supper, in which your Only Begotten Son, when about to hand himself over the death, entrusted to the Church a sacrifice new for all The Collect
  • 24. eternity, the banquet of his love, grant, we pray, that we may draw from so great a mystery, the fullness of charity and of life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, The Collect
  • 25. who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All: Amen The Collect
  • 27. A Reading from the book of Exodus. The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt:
  • 28. ‘This month is to be the first of all the others for you, the first month of your year. Speak to the whole community of Israel and say,
  • 29. “On the tenth day of this month each man must take an animal from the flock, one for each family: one animal for each household. If the
  • 30. household is too small to eat the animal, a man must join with his neighbour, the nearest to his house, as the number of persons requires.
  • 31. You must take into account what each can eat in deciding the number for the animal. It must be an animal without blemish, a male one year old;
  • 32. you may take it from either sheep or goats. You must keep it till the fourteenth day of the month when the whole assembly of the community
  • 33. of Israel shall slaughter it between the two evenings. Some of the blood must then be taken and put on the two doorposts and the lintel of
  • 34. the houses where it is eaten. That night, the flesh is to be eaten, roasted over the fire; it must be eaten with unleavened bread and bitter
  • 35. herbs. You shall eat it hastily: it is a Passover in honour of the Lord. That night, I will go through the land of Egypt and strike down all the first-born
  • 36. in the land of Egypt, man and beast alike, and I shall deal out punishment to all the gods of Egypt, I am the Lord! The blood shall serve to mark
  • 37. the houses that you live in. When I see the blood I will pass over you and you shall escape the destroying plague when I strike the land of
  • 38. Egypt. This day is to be a day of remembrance for you, and you must celebrate it as a feast in the Lord’s honour.
  • 39. For all generations you are to declare it a day of festival, for ever.”’
  • 40. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
  • 41. The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ. The Psalm
  • 42. How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me? The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord’s name. The Psalm
  • 43. The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ. The Psalm
  • 44. O precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful. Your servant, Lord, your servant am I; you have loosened my bonds. The Psalm
  • 45. The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ. The Psalm
  • 46. A thanksgiving sacrifice I make; I will call on the Lord’s name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfil before all his people. The Psalm
  • 47. The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ. The Psalm
  • 49. A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Corinthians. This is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed
  • 50. on to you: that on the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said,
  • 51. ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant
  • 52. in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat

  • 68. are.’ He knew who was going to betray him, that was why he said, ‘though not all of you are.’ When he had washed their
  • 69. feet and put on his clothes again he went back to the table. ‘Do you understand’ he said ‘what I have done to you? You call me Master and
  • 70. Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I, then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should wash each other’s feet. I have given you an
