Begotten Son, when about to hand
himself over the death, entrusted to

The Collect
27. A Reading from the book of
Exodus.
The Lord said to Moses and
Aaron in the land of Egypt:
28. âThis month is to be the
first of all the others for you,
the first month of your year.
Speak to the whole
community of Israel and say,
29. âOn the tenth day of this
month each man must take
an animal from the flock, one
for each family: one animal
for each household. If the
30. household is too small to eat
the animal, a man must join
with his neighbour, the
nearest to his house, as the
number of persons requires.
31. You must take into account
what each can eat in deciding
the number for the animal. It
must be an animal without
blemish, a male one year old;
32. you may take it from either
sheep or goats. You must
keep it till the fourteenth day
of the month when the whole
assembly of the community
33. of Israel shall slaughter it
between the two evenings.
Some of the blood must then
be taken and put on the two
doorposts and the lintel of
34. the houses where it is eaten.
That night, the flesh is to be
eaten, roasted over the fire; it
must be eaten with
unleavened bread and bitter
35. herbs. You shall eat it hastily:
it is a Passover in honour of
the Lord. That night, I will go
through the land of Egypt and
strike down all the first-born
36. in the land of Egypt, man and
beast alike, and I shall deal
out punishment to all the
gods of Egypt, I am the Lord!
The blood shall serve to mark
37. the houses that you live in.
When I see the blood I will
pass over you and you shall
escape the destroying plague
when I strike the land of
38. Egypt. This day is to be a day
of remembrance for you, and
you must celebrate it as a
feast in the Lordâs honour.
39. For all generations you are to
declare it a day of festival, for
ever.ââ
49. A reading from the letter of St
Paul to the Corinthians.
This is what I received from
the Lord, and in turn passed
50. on to you: that on the same
night that he was betrayed, the
Lord Jesus took some bread,
and thanked God for it and
broke it, and he said,
51. âThis is my body, which is for
you; do this as a memorial of
me.â In the same way he took
the cup after supper, and said,
âThis cup is the new covenant
52. in my blood. Whenever you
drink it, do this as a memorial
of me.â Until the Lord comes,
therefore, every time you eat
53. this bread and drink this cup,
you are proclaiming his
death.
55. Praise and honour to you, Lord
Jesus!
I give you a new commandment:
love one another just as I have loved
you, says the Lord.
Praise and honour to you, Lord
Jesus!
Gospel Acclamation
56. The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
57. It was before the festival of
the Passover, and Jesus
knew that the hour had come
for him to pass from this
world to the Father. He had
58. always loved those who were
his in the world, but now he
showed how perfect his love
was.
They were at supper, and
59. the devil had already put it
into the mind of Judas
Iscariot son of Simon, to
betray him. Jesus knew that
the Father had put
60. everything into his hands,
and that he had come from
God and was returning to
God, and he got up from
table, removed his outer
61. garment and, taking a towel,
wrapped it round his waist;
he then poured water into a
basin and began to wash the
disciplesâ feet and to wipe
64. He came to Simon Peter, who
said to him, âLord, are you
going to wash my feet?â
Jesus answered,
65. âAt the moment you do not
know what I am doing, but
later you will understand.â
âNever!â said Peter âYou shall
never wash my feet.â Jesus
66. replied, âIf I do not wash you,
you can have nothing in
common with me.â âThen,
Lord,â said Simon Peter ânot
only my feet, but my hands
67. and my head as well!â Jesus
said, âNo one who has taken
a bath needs washing, he is
clean all over. You too are
clean, though not all of you
68. are.â He knew who was going
to betray him, that was why
he said, âthough not all of
you are.â
When he had washed their
69. feet and put on his clothes
again he went back to the
table. âDo you understandâ he
said âwhat I have done to
you? You call me Master and
70. Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I,
then, the Lord and Master,
have washed your feet, you
should wash each otherâs
feet. I have given you an

139. Psalm 63
O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you; my soul
thirsts for you, my body longs
for you, in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
140. I have seen you in the
sanctuary
and beheld your power
and your glory.
141. Because your love is
better than life, my lips
will glorify you. I will
praise you as long as I
live, and in your name I
will lift up my hands.
142. My soul will be satisfied as

with singing lips my
mouth will praise you.
143. On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the
watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
144. I sing in the shadow of
your wings.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds
me.
145.
146. Lord Jesus, you taught us to
watch and pray, lest we be
overcome by temptation.
We confidently ask you: Lord,
share with us your own spirit of
prayer.
147. By your prayer in the garden, you
prepared for your passion and
death;
â help us, your disciples, to be in
intimate communion with our God
in every event of our life.
148. In the garden, you persevered in
prayer even when distressed to the
sweating of blood;
â grant that, by prayer, we may live
with God despite distress and
sorrow.
149. Lord, at your Father's bidding, you
gladly drank the cup of your
passion;

unjustly;

strength to be faithful in trials and
difficulties.
151.
152. Lord our God,
in his agony in the garden, Jesus,
your Son, taught us by word and
example how to pray in time of trial.
Keep us always faithful to prayer,

Jesus Christ, your Son, who
lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
154.
155. May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil
and bring us to
everlasting life. Amen
